These are nice window shades. Yes, the header at the top is a bit bulky, but it works fine and is not too obtrusive. In fact, these work really nicely and easily. Installation was a snap and it is sturdy. I hung them in my shed to keep the light and nosy neighbors out. I like that I can work out there at night now too without anyone seeing me. Plus it keeps the shed a bit cooler which is great. My windows are exactly 2'x3', and these at 23" wide did fine for an inside-the-frame install, and the length is not an issue for my shorter windows - I just don't pull them down as far - it's that simple. There is a little gap/sliver on the sides where light and eyes could see me I suppose, but it isn't a big gap at all, and I could always add foam strips to the sides of the window opening to help block that if I was really worried about it. Truly it is not a serious concern it is so small. Maybe in a bedroom installation I'd feel different, but this is just fine. The only gripe is that it didn't come with any screws or anchors even though it says it does. Not an issue for me, I just used 1.25" Spax flat head screws I had on hand and they went right up with no problem. But if you're counting on the screws and anchors (if going into drywall) just be aware that they may not be included. But the shades are nice and I would get them again. In fact, I'm going to order 3 sets in grey for my shed windows! ... show more

    • Better than expected!
I grew up with room darkening shades, so when it's time to sleep, I need to have the bedroom pitch dark. Our bedroom windows face to the west, so of course, we get the blazing afternoon sun, and with the sun setting so late this time of year, our bedroom tends to get hot - and stay hot when it's time to go to bed - even though I have room darkening curtains hanging in those windows. I think the main problem is we have a window A/C to help us sleep at night (our nearly 100-year-old house doesn't yet have central air), so I had to jury-rig the curtain on that particular window to not interfere with the A/C unit - binder clips came in handy for that! But the curtain itself isn't quite wide enough, and it turns out it's not truly 'room darkening,' so I snagged this window shade to fix that problem. It works like a charm! I love that I don't have to jury rig it in length, just pull it down to just the right place, and it's the perfect width so no more pesky sun rays are leaking in around the edges. It was easy to install and looks great - I plan to pick up another one for the other window so they'll match (and to take advantage of it cutting out the light and heat, too). I ordered these blackout shades to use in my daughter's room. I wanted a shade that kept the light out so my little one can sleep later and subsequently I could get more rest. These shades work great and are very easy to install. The material is a thick high quality blackout fabric with a thermal insulation coating. They keep the sun out so the room stays darker and cooler for longer. This has made it so much easier to get the baby to sleep in the daytime and to help her sleep through the early morning. I would definitely recommend these shades, they keep the light out, help keep the room cooler and are easy to install. ... show more

    • Big and works well
These shades have been super handy on my job blacking out my bedroom. Because they're the roll up kind, it's tough to get them to black out everything around the edges of the shades, but these are big enough that I was able to get the job done. Anywhere the shades cover is completely blacked out, so it's just a matter of minor light bleed around the edge. The roller mechanism works well, and they go up and down without any issue. Installation was also easy and they come with all the hardware you need. They're a quick and tidy fix to keep most light out and stay unobtrusive when not needed. ... show more

    • Works well, but very bulky
This window shade is easy to raise and lower, and blocks light very well. My only complaint is that it's extremely bulky, so it looks weird sitting above my kitchen window... if you can mount it inside the window frame then it'll probably look fine, but it was just barely too wide for me to do that.

::The good:: They look good. For cheap blinds they are OK. They also were the fastest ones we could get, with out waiting weeks. ::The Bad:: I purchased 10 of these shades in different sizes. I wish I knew they did not lock into place, like even the cheapest shades do. Gravity is used to hold the shade in what ever position you put it, however on some shades, you get close to the top and it retracts on other shades they tend to want to lenghen. You can adjust them kind of, although there is nothing in the manual, as there is not a manual, just a parts list. You can adjust them by taking the bottom weight off, and adding or subtracting turns from the roller. With the way the brackets are made they don't hug the wall, so if you mount them on the outside of your window frame, they will have a lot of light leakage around the edges. ... show more

    • Good Quality
Good quality shades that are very easy to install and they look great- easy decision to make when they're priced so attractively. I like that they are true blackout shades- no light is getting through these, and the space at the sides is smaller than some other shades we have. The valance is neat looking, the operation is smooth and easy- pull down and lift up. The only problem we have is the hardware must have shifted during shipment and pressed against the rolled up shade, now we have a dent in the fabric about a foot from one edge that repeats as you unroll the shade. There is also a dent in the edge of the fabric. Nothing interferes with the function of the shade, but it doesn't look great. Maybe with time it will smooth out, but I'd say they need to pack these better. Very nice shade at a great price, install took about five minutes. Edit 08/05/24: with time the fabric has relaxed and the dents in the fabric have faded, they're almost gone now. This has turned out to be a good shade for us. Edit 08/15/24: the shade looks as good as it was meant to now, I really like the way these shades function so easily and reliably. ... show more
