  • Super happy with this mini split!
Size: 9,000 BTU, 115V
I purchased this .75 ton single zone system for my master bedroom which is always hotter than the rest of the house. So, this is providing supplemental cooling to a room. I was lucky to have an ideal situation of having space on an exterior wall in the room so the heat pump could be placed just on the other side, with an electrical subpanel within 10' of the unit. So, very straight forward install. I purchased a 2 3/4" hole saw to make a clean hole on my interior drywall, then used a small masonry bit to make a series of small holes in a circle on the outer stucco wall, being careful to create a slight downhill slope from inside to outside. Some comments about the instructions that come with the unit: - the description of wiring connections refers to colors that didn't exist with the kit that I purchased. In the end, colors don't matter a bit, just make sure the order is identical for connections 1,2,3 and ground on both sides of the control cable. - the manual mentions in bold letters to be sure to plug the drain in the drain tray using the supplied plug on the side opposite of where the drain hose is coming out, since it is designed to support either left or right side drains. I couldn't find any plug, so I called support. They said ignore, it's already installed at the factory, and since I didn't need to change it to the other side I was fine. - the manual mentions to test your drain by removing the filter screens and pouring water into the tray. This is not obvious where to pour the water. Tech support said to pour over the evap coils. My first try I poured a little too far back and water ran down my wall. Then I poured a little close to the front and water ran out the drain line like it should, with no leaks. - the very good news is that tech support is available. I probably waited about 5 mins on hold to talk to a tech, and they were very helpful. Once the physical installation of the indoor and outdoor units was complete and the circuit was run, I called my HVAC friend to come over and complete the install. He insisted that we cut the stock flares off the lines and reflare the ends, as the factory ends are usually flared with too much pressure resulting in very thin flares. Sure enough, his flares were much thicker than the ones he cut off. Also, we found a piece of loose copper in one of the 5/8" flare nuts which would have caused leaks for sure. He then made the connections and used nitrogen to test the lines to 700psi for 10 mins, then pulled a vacuum for 10 mins. Finally when he was satisfied that all air was purged from the lines he open the valves to charge the system, and it works perfectly. I had pondered doing that part of the job myself by buying a vacuum pump and gauges on Amazon but I think I'm glad that I ended up paying a pro to do it instead. There are some hazards that only someone with a lot of experience would know to look out for. As some other have mentioned these units are unbeleivably quiet. If it weren't for the fact that I can see the fan moving on the heat pump, I wouldn't know it was running at all. It is really that quiet. Hopefully this will provide many many years of comfort! ... show more

  • Coolest cooler
Size: 24,000 BTU
This was far beyond my expectations easy to install and I had to keep checking at first to see if it was running it is almost silent you have to try real hard to listen we keep it at 75 and live in Phoenix record temps over 110 and we have to cover up at night we got single and it easily covers living room and kitchen over 1500 sq ft got our first electric bill and it was 100 $ less and our home is 80 yrs old we are now fixing the holes once that’s done I’m sure it will be less very happy way better than window units and cheaper than running central air which by the way we do not have have to wait till winter for heater 9/24 update the mini split is still over and beyond my expectations still have to sleep under blankets if set anything below 76 and the heater works great as well no need to run it all day or all night just enough to take the chill off old house have only had to do any maintenance and that was just to clean the filters we are now going through solar so next update will be how they work off grid until then this is not a paid review ... show more

  • One Phoenix summer down ...
Size: 12,000 BTU, 230V
... six more to go (under the warranty) -- so far, so good. This unit performed like a champ. Very quiet, both inside and out. Lots of cold air. I replaced a 12-year-old Fujitsu Halcyon. Over the last three years it began leaking some coolant oil from the connectors and my A/C guys had to keep topping off the coolant. This unit is for my home office (11' X 15-1/2') on the second story, containing five desktop computers. Usually only two are running most of the day, although it's not uncommon for four to be on at the same time, along with three people present. 2022 wasn't a crazy-heat summer like 2020 (which may have worn out my Fujitsu) but still offered a slew of 110-plus degree days. I set the unit to 72 degrees and the fan speed to high -- meaning it never turns off until I manually do so before going to bed. The C&H unit didn't skip a beat. My A/C guys had never heard of Cooper & Hunter but commented that it looked like a solid piece of equipment, and they are curious to know how it worked. I'll let them know next spring when they come to tune up my A/C systems. If I had to say so today, I would definitely buy another C&H unit. The price is right -- hundreds less than a Fujitsu. It actually cost more for the guys to remove the Fujitsu and install the C&H, than the C&H unit cost itself! (2022 was a bad year to hire contractors -- my guys were booked five weeks out.) ... show more

  • Good unit
Size: 12,000 BTU, 115V
third mini split I have used, previous ones were Fujitsu and klimair. I installed this one and the klimair and it is very doable if you spend about $100 to buy a vacuum pump and guages. Even with the install stuff it is much much cheaper than paying someone to do it just take your time and think everything through twice before you drill holes in your walls. This unit is slightly cheaper than the klimair and a lot cheaper then the Fujitsu but it works the best out of all three. I have only used the cooling side so I cant say how the heating works but this thing is basically silent inside and works very well. It also is very efficient on the electric bill. ... show more
