Description

Illuminate your outdoor adventures with the Coleman One- Mantle Kerosene Lantern. This durable camping lantern features a one-mantle design that casts up to 700 lumens of high-intensity light. You can light the lantern with a quick match strike and dial in the desired brightness level with the adjustable dimmer knob. The high-temperature globe resists cracking and is protected by built-in spring clips, and the porcelain-coated ventilator helps resist corrosion and rust. A bail handle makes it easy to carry or hang the lantern, and the fuel tank provides a steady base when the lantern is placed on a table or other surface. This outdoor lantern lasts up to 8. 5 hours on high with 2 pints of kerosene (sold separately). It comes with a pre- installed 11 mantle and a plastic bottle to help fill the pre-heater. Sometimes, you just can't beat a classic kerosene lantern to light up your campsite. This model is iconic lantern maker Coleman's brightest such device, offering high-intensity light output with the included 11 mantles. It provides up to 5.5 hours of burn time on one two-pint kerosene tank, and -- thanks to an easy-to-operate, single-knob control -- it's as intuitive to use as it is durable. The fuel tank is coated on the interior to hold up to repeated use, and a "porcelain-ized" ventilator resists rust. Includes an automatic tip cleaner. The Coleman Limited Warranty All Coleman products have a warranty against defects in material and workmanship, and details are included with your purchase. About Coleman Outdoor Products More than 100 years ago, an entrepreneurial young man named W.C. Coleman had an idea for manufacturing better lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. A century later, Coleman's current catalog features a wide-ranging array of products that make spending time outside a pleasure. The company crafts coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days, airbeds that are comfortable and won't deflate during the night, a complete line of bright and long-lasting LED lights, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and more.

This is a good emergency or campsite lantern. Long burn time, bright, not too noisy. PRO: *Easy to find fuel - kerosene, lamp oil, diesel fuel (in a pinch, it works but stinks a bit) * Well-built by current standards. 20 years ago it wouldn't have had a stamped burner/hanger structure, but it's not 20 years ago. Should last a long time if it's kept out of rust-generating environments. * Not too noisy. Based on my preference for not running full-bore, it still generates a lot of light at medium setting * The various fuels are stable for up to five years, so you can leave it filled and ready, unlike gasoline models CON: * You will need light to light it. Ironic, right? You can't fill and light the pre-heat reservoir in the dark. *You need to have denatured alcohol, in the supplied squeeze bottle or equivalent, to fill the pre-heater. * you MUST have either long wooden matches or a paper match holder to light the alcohol As for pumping up the lantern, letting it thoroughly pre-heat, etc., others (and the manual) have covered these. I love it. I keep it filled, a filled squirt bottle of alcohol and kitchen matches ready to go. Security. ... show more

  • Great product if you understand how it works
Style: Lantern
If you have been around the Coleman Gasoline lanterns, than this product will be an easy transition. I chose this over the white gas lantern due to my perception of safety (using kerosene vs. gasoline), and the ready availability/low cost of kerosene vs. the coleman white gas fuel. The only downside of this unit vs the traditional Coleman gas is the kerosene version requires a pre-burn of alcohol to heat the vapor tube and warm the mantle. This is very simple, once you are set up for it, but it does add a requirement and the necessity to carry the small alcohol squirt bottle they provide to prime fill the pre-burn cup. Once warm, the unit fires right up on it's kerosene fuel. She burns very bright, with virtually no odor. If I was choosing between propane, gas, or Kerosene, I would choose this; although they all have their pros and cons. I won't go to comparisons between the three, as there are tons of other reviews to provide this. We all understand an LED battery lantern is the quickest to set up and transport, this is a totally different product that should be supplemented by battery lights with your camping gear. If purchasing this, definitely get the Coleman carrying case. It's the way to go. Somewhat pricey for a plastic box, but it makes the experience better. You will need a small can of denatured alcohol and some wooden matches, or an extension wire for a paper match to light the pre-burn cup through the globe. I enjoy mine so much I light it on our patio table at night, while grilling; despite having plenty of outdoor lights at my house. It provides a great atmosphere. It's like comparing a wood stove to an electric heater. They both accomplish warms, but the atmosphere is completely different. ... show more

  • Recommend This Lantern.
Style: Lantern
Perfect adjunct to my propane lantern. May even become my go-to. That depends on the availability of replacement globes. To date I've been unable to locate any and response from Coleman has not happened. First the pros. Several reviews mentioned that the brightness was not adjustable. I found this not to be the case at all. When turned all the way up, it brightly illuminates an area 30' in diameter when hung at an elevation of 5' and a full tank of kerosene will last 6.5 hours. When turned down, it provides a softer glow just bright enough to light up the area in front of a tent giving a feeling of security for really young campers. The standard Coleman lantern hiss is not as loud with the kerosene fueled lantern. Apparently the hissing noise bothers some folks but it's actually just a part of using a pressurized lantern. When hung, the bail (handle) doesn't get as hot as the propane or white gas models. I've burned my hand a couple of times in the past but it shouldn't be a problem with this lantern. The filtered, filler funnel works great. It special design allows you to top off the lantern with no fuel spillage. With K-1 kerosene selling at a bulk price of $4.50 a gallon, that's an important consideration. Some may ask why kerosene? The answer is simple. Shelf life. If stored properly, K-1 remains viable as a fuel for 5 years. There have been cases where kerosene was found in remote cabins that was 10+ years old. It had to be filtered through a rag but it afterwards it was still useable. Don't try this with gas or even "white gas". Now for the cons. The need to have alcohol to preheat the generator tube can be problematic. Initally I was having to undo the top of the lantern to put fuel in the pre-heating cup adding to the risk of damaging the mantle or worse, breaking the globe. After a few uses, I found that the bottle easily fits through the closest "match hole" so the disassembly problem went away with use and experience. The only other problem has been a lack of a replacement globe/s. If Coleman ever gets back with me, that problem might be alleviated. Only time will tell. UPDATE!!! Found that Coleman uses a seperate supplier for "replacement" parts. Called them up and ordered 2 replacement globes at a very reasonable cost. ... show more

  • Awesome lantern
Style: Lantern
This lantern is made well and is brighter than most other lanterns of similar size. Follow the instructions exactly. Do not think you know better than the instructions. I made that mistake. I skipped one step and when I lit it I had flames coming out everywhere. Every opening was on fire. I finally got it shut down. I had destroyed the mantle and started over. This time I followed the instructions to the letter. I had no problems at all that time. It has worked perfectly since. I would recommend paying the extra for a high quality kerosene. The fumes are not near as strong. Edit 1: I have now used it many times and compared it side by side with my dual fuel lantern also by Coleman. They are both good lanterns but must give the edge to this kerosene lantern. It is brighter with one mantle than the other with two.I have stuck with Coleman brand kerosene. I am very happy with this lantern and am considering getting a second one. ... show more
