  • 4.0 out of 5 stars You get what you get with the low cost
Style: Double Cooker
I recommend cutting the crust off of the bread beforehand. Does it's job but not easy to maneuver. Still recommend if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Works great
Style: Double Cooker
Cast-iron, works exactly as expected. I got it on sale at a great price and have already used it multiple times with friends. If you’re on the fence and have never owned one of these, just buy it, you won’t regret it. They make fun snacks, and it’s a fun thing to do with your friends around a campfire or, as I do, used with a propane, fire table. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars It works

I made some delicious, hot ham & cheese sandwiches with this to test it out. Worked like a charm. Make sure that you was a season these before using or they will rust badly.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but hard to season correctly.
Style: Double Cooker
I bought this for camping. It brings back memories when I was a kid and we had one. My mom would make pizza pockets at night and stuffed egg sandwiches for breakfast. We loved everything she made with it. When it arrived, I followed the instructions to the "T". I seasoned it as per the instructions, then tried it out over a fire. Everything stuck and was ruined. Nothing could be eaten. I cleaned it up and seasoned it again with no luck. After another thorough cleaning, I then seasoned it like my cast iron pan's instructions. I seasoned it 4 times before using it again. Now it works right, releasing the food when opened. Now that it is working right, we have used it several times , and really enjoying it at fireside. The pizza pockets taste great as well as the breakfast sandwiches. We actually made chicken pot pies from left over fire grilled chicken and some store bought pie crusts. Fantastic! I am happy with this cooking iron and highly recommend it. It is a fantastic value for the money and it gets 4 stars. Season it using a different method the form the manufacturer and it will work great. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of work to keep from rusting.
Style: Double Cooker
Followed instructions but still rusted badly after first use. Very disappointing. My wife after seeing it did not want to use again. Continued to season and got a little better but still a lot of work for camping if your thinking quick easy meal. This coming from someone who loves to cook with cast iron. You will also have to modify your bread before using. It’s a small inside, so more work. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Serves its purpose, has design flaws
Style: Double Cooker
Used this for the first time earlier this evening in the fire pit. Made some nice toasties with corned beef, cheese, and thousand island. Buttered the bread on the outside. Also used it to warm up the graham cracker and chocolate for s'mores as it turns out that the innermost square fits half of a graham cracker perfectly! Yes, season it yourself before use. AND after! It's just like any other piece of cooking iron. After we were done eating, we stuck the plates back over the fire for a few minutes to char off the food bits. Then cleaned and oiled each one and stuck them back on the fire for another little while. Nice and shiny once again, ready for the next use. Having now used this thing, I'd say that the better option might have been the single instead of the double. It would like be easier to manage one sandwich or pie at a time. The double is too heavy for the handles, I think. Some other reviewers are reporting a broken hinge, and I can see this happening because it simply seems too thin for its intended purpose. It really needs a redesign. While in use, the handles are strapped together tightly which creates pressure at the hinge point. I would suggest only leaving it under pressure while cooking. When not in use, the handles should be unscrewed from the iron plates and stored separately. Personally looking forward to figuring out what kinds of things I can make with this. May buy the single sammy/pie model at a later time. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great camp cooker at a great price!
Style: Double Cooker
So far, so good! Important - Like with all cast iron, season before you use this! I followed the recommended instructions on the product website and seasoned for one hour in 250 degree oven. I have not taken this to camp yet, but I’ve tried it out both on the stove eye and the fire pit and it’s worked so far with a little practice. I’ve tried grilled cheese, potatoes, and fruit “pies.” My favorite so far is two slices of bread (butter the outsides) with apple butter and cinnamon on the inside. It makes a quick apple turnover! I’ve had the best results with canned fruit or preserves - your bread will burn before you get enough heat to cook fresh fruit. You could try a pie crust or phyllo dough, but so far I’ve only tried things I could replicate with little to no effort while camping with minimal ingredients that need to be kept cold. I have not found the handles to be too week as other reviews have said, but you would not be holding this constantly while cooking. You can find a log or rock to prop it up. The handles easily twist out to clean, pack or season the cooker. For the price (I paid $15), this double pie iron definitely delivers. ... show more
