This is the 3rd door I have bought. They work great. Easy to program. I have large egg laying hens and ducks and they have no problem going through the door. I like the side opening doors the best. I have tried the up and down doors and it did not last.

First, I am a 1st time chicken owner and every experience concerning chickens is new to me. When the door arrived, I was excited but was still building the chicken run to attach to my hen house, so I did not install the door immediately. Once ready for install, I learned that the DC outlet did not work. It was not a concern for me because I do not have power to my chicken coop, so would only be using batteries anyway. So I did not make a fuss over that malfunction. I loved this door at first. It is a perfect size and it only took my girls 1 day to learn that the door will close them out if they are not in on time. It worked really well for about 6 weeks of use and I was loving that the girls could be let out while I was still inside making coffee. However, one night, the door stopped working. Now, each morning and evening, someone has to go out and manually hold the open/close button for 3 seconds and physically push the door to open or close it, which defeats the entire purpose of having an automatic door. It is located under a covered roof and does not get wet and I've already checked for stuck debris. It is barely even used so even still looks new. I'm pretty disappointed that it didn't even last 6 months. My son is urging me to reach out to the company to try to get a replacement, but I do not want this same door. I will not trust it, even if it is new again. I'm diligently looking for a more trustworthy door to use as I believe that this one is NOT a good choice for anyone, unless they need a temporary solution while waiting for a better, more trusting permanent door. ... show more

I had a problem with something getting into my coop. I lock it up at night but something was getting in while it was still dusk. Come to find out it was a cat. I learned what was killing my chickens because my new awesome automatic door accidently locked the cat IN my coop. I had already suspected a cat was the problem, but when I went out to say good night to the girls and found a pissed off cat stuck in "treed" by my hero of a rooster it was confirmed. So what I like; 1.Love that you can set the sensitivity, some of my girls are late nighters. 2.Love that it has a programable delay as well so when I go over to say goodnight and I flip on the light it does not open the door. 3. I like that I can manually open and close the door so if I check on the girls before the sun has done it's thing I can control it. 4. So far it has handled our 0 degree weather without a problem. 5. It is VERY user friendly and my kids love the stickers that came with it. My concerns, Really I just have one problem so far, When the hens are scratching around the run they kick up dirt. That dirt settled in the sliding doors track and kept it from closing one night. I had to use my pocket knife to scratch out the dirt. Two days later same problem. I have a piece of plywood down in front of the door now to limit the amount of scratching they can do right in front of the door. I do anticipate this being a problem when the snow starts to fly. So if you can't check it daily, and it's a dirt area or heavy snow, it's a factor to consider. ... show more

I recently realized that I've been using this door 15 mos after I bought it. It has been amazing. It extends the time that my chickens can be outside during daylight hours even if I'm at work or already in bed (in the summer months, they go to bed hours after I do). It has protected them from the small nocturnal predators we have here. I can not believe that this door (that I installed myself) has worked reliably for 15 months! The battery is just now down to 30%. Minor dislikes: The door sensor prevents the door from opening or closing when we have super-muddy weather and I have to manually open or close it. (has only happened several times over 15 months). The screen and moving through the screens isn't intuitive for me. I have to click around in circles before finding the settings I want. But that just takes a few extra minutes. ... show more

I bought this unit back in October 2023 and installed it in my coop. I've been running it off battery power alone and here it is, over 6 months later, and the battery power is at 90%! I was leery about getting a battery powered door because I was concerned about how long the batteries would last. I could have opted for a solar powered one, but it would just mean drilling more holes in my coop just to get the needed sunlight. Plus I'm pretty OCD about cable management. So if you're wondering how the battery power holds up, now you know. The set-up was super easy for timed opening and closing. Only thing is that it won't automatically adjust for daylight savings time, so you'll have to manually do that...no big deal. Just make sure to check the tracts every once in a while to make sure there's not any debris in the way or else it will not close. The best part is that I have not lost a chicken like other automatic opener reviews have stated. I tested it on a stuffed animal and it reopened within seconds. Didn't even close all the way before reopening due to the obstruction. The door sheaths are a heavy duty plastic and rounded. No sharp edges. This unit works so well that I plan on buying more once I have the open pasture run built so that critters can't access the enclosed run at night. Definitely recommend! ... show more
