  • Excellent chess board

There is nothing to dislike about Chess Genius Pro.

  • It is nearly of actual Genius quality: note, you must press the sqiares with your fingers, a slight detriment in high speedplay.
Edition: Single
really powerful. will take you all the way to grand master--if you read a few books...etc.,... it is small--not an official sized "tournament" board. Many of us have the actual large board and timer anyway. As MAGNUS says-- you don't want to play on a 2 dimension PC simulation all the time, it can disorient you, if you want to really grow. This has the small 2 dimentional display, but under a real hands-on playing surface. Great for small quarters, like airplanes. ... show more

  • Great PC playing machine with one defect
Edition: Single
It works fine, I play it about low expert (the Millennium ChessGenius Pro M4 120 MH is about 2050 Elo at 1 minute a move), but there's one defect: no human to human mode, or 'referee mode'. What is this? It's where you can play any opening line, then the PC will become your opponent. Why do this? because if you keep playing the PC and it keeps playing its favorite opening, it gets too easy to beat it. There is a limited workaround to the above in that you can select "Alternate Move" (NXT BEST), if it exists, and the machine will play an alternate move. This is helpful if for example after 1.e4 the machine plays 1...e6 but you want it to play 1...e5 or 1...c5. However, not every line, especially when the machine is in book, has an alternate line. The lack of a 'referee' or 'human vs human' feature is why I'm giving this review four stars. Finally, though you can find a chess playing software program that has more features than this machine, the purpose of buying dedicated hardware is so you don't have to fire up your computer if you want to play a game of chess. I also keep the device powered on mains, with a transformer, and even after several days it remembers any position, I've not had it lose positions in memory, though on occasion the machine will power on from an off setting for no apparent reason, but since it's not on batteries it is not a big deal. ... show more

  • Good Engine Poor Ergonomics
Edition: Single
Pros: Chess engine very good with multiple level options available. Great battery life. The optional A/C adapter not really necessary (especially at $20). Price on lower end of alternatives. Cons: The product reminds me of 1980's styling with a very small archaic backlit display and pinhead size icons; the controls are to me counter-interative and while you can get used to the strange logic, I rather concentrate on the game, not on fumbling for the right button to push. The board is very small and while the silver pieces stand out nicely the black pieces get visually lost on the board and become hard to distinguish, leading to potential fatal errors. ... show more

  • Changing my review
Edition: Single
The board is kind of small and doesn't light up to move peices so you have to watch a little 2x2 screen when the computer moves , this computer is in attack mode right from the start even on the low levels ,this is an update after 4 games the LED screen froze which made the game useless ,don't buy this game ... show more
