I really enjoy Anna Jacobs books and if you like historical fiction you probably will too. I've read many of her books and started reading this trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed this first book. The second and third books are: 2nd: Elm Tree Road (Wiltshire Girls 2) 3rd: Yew Tree Gardens (Wiltshire Girls 3) **** When I went to purchase/download Elm Tree Road, it was not showing as available on Kindle (although I had downloaded the sample earlier) I actually emailed Anna Jacobs (when Amazon could not help) and she very kindly had someone look in to this and Elm Tree Road (Wiltshire Girls 2) is now available again on Kindle. If you do like this series I would also recommend the Gibson Family Saga, which is a 5 book series and starts with Salem Street (Gibson Family Saga 1) ... show more

This story about three sisters living in poverty under the thumb of an abusive father is set in 1910 England. The three girls make hurried plans to run away from their brutal home life when the eldest is forced into an unwanted betrothal. The story takes off rapidly from there as Mattie becomes central character running in fear for her life after seeing her two younger sisters off. The plot is fast paced and interesting and a very good read. The brutality of the father is shocking and I could understand the intense fear and desperation as Mattie runs. No boring moments here. Great characters and a solid plot although a bit predictable at times. A book I will recommend to readers of historical fiction. ... show more

Love Anna Jacobs her stories are enrapturing once I get into the story which is usually the first page I struggle to put the book down love the way the perpetrators get what they deserve and always a feel good ending my kinda stories

Loved this book the first in a series of three already half way through the second book. A very enjoyable read from Anna Jacobs a good author to buy. A good story line kept me wanting to read it, read this book in less than a week. I recommend this book you won't regret it.

Once again Anna Jacobs has written a book that is captivating yet easy to read. She would have to be my favorite author. Her writing takes the reader right into the setting and we are able to identify with the characters and their lives. Another great book.
