I tried this 5-quart air fryer because Consumer Reports lists it as the second-best air fryer that they tested. I've now had it for a week, and I've cooked grilled cheese sandwiches, toasted English muffins, frozen french fries, breaded shrimp, and shake-and-bake chicken thighs. I have not had a chance to use the probe when cooking. Pros: - The glass front really lets you see the food cook. If you're a beginner with using an air fryer, this is an invaluable way to make sure your breading and fries aren't starting to burn. - Very quiet. It's audible, but it is so very, very quiet. - While the manual warns that the air fryer can become quite hot, I've found the exterior and vent to remain only warm throughout cooking. (The metal basket obviously gets quite hot. High-temperature non-metal tongs should be used.) - Very easy to clean! Food comes right off the non-stick surface. Avoid using cooking sprays that have lecithin, which will gum up the non-stick surface. I've only needed a soft sponge and soap for even the cheesiest of messes from a toppled grilled cheese sandwich. - The basket is deep, and can fit two regular-sized hamburger buns (4-pieces). For two people, this is plenty of space. If you have a larger family, you may need to divvy up when cooking, or consider the 8-quart version. Cons: - There's no lock screen button. If you get stuff on the screen, wait until your cooking is done before trying to clean it off, or you might reset the current cooking cycle! - Remember to avoid layering food. French fries should be a single layer, or the fries in the middle won't be crispy! This is different than the advice for air frying on the bags of frozen french fries. ... show more

I am genuinely impressed with this air fryer. I took a chance at saving big money over buying a more expensive name brand unit. The viewing window is super clear and large, unit is pretty quiet the probe works great, the display is bright and easy to read and of course the most important part is that it cooks great! I wont ding it stars but a few of the negatives would be that the controls are confusing at first. You only get certain button options if the probe is plugged in or not. All in all, im super happy with this. It may fail in a few months, maybe that's why it is cheap. If that happens I will update the review, but so far I love it and wish I had purchased it much sooner. For those that cant figure out how to turn the unit off, its automatic. Once its done cooking or u press stop the display will stay on for about 10 minutes or so and then sleep. ... show more

This replaced another air fryer that I got tired of using. I like this one only a little better. It has its little annoyances. First off, it has little movable bits on it that can come off and clog or roll around in your sink when you wash it. I don't care for that at all. I guess it doesn't need to preheat so that setting was not on there. The okay features: two areas on the air fryer for you to set up your "favorite settings" for temperature and time. I like that the light comes on/off whereas my previous one light would come and stay off unless you turned it back on again. Obviously it has a window for you to see your food cooking. The price I paid for this was $108 including tax so...not sure this is a keeper yet. ... show more

My biggest concern was whether the underside of my breaded food would crisp without turning. I have 5 air fryers, not all dedicated stsnd alone, and only the original ninja grill/air fryer and a Phillips, that I gave away, were able to do this. This 8 qt Chefman did indeed crisp the underside of my breaded cutlets without turning, just have to spray both sides. Don't be dismayed by the low 1300 watts as this unit uses halogen bulb as heat source. This turns on and off as it regulates temperature and gets very hot. It also serves as the.internal light source as there is no dedicated light. It is very bright with amazingly clear visibility of the cooking food. The two memory settings as well as the default air fry setting are all 400° and 15 minutes. My ninja which was my goto air fryer is 390° and 20 minutes. Yet the Chefman produced.much crisper cutlet and crispy smashed potatoes than the ninja on its trial run. I'll probably lower memory settings to 390° as the cutlet came out super crispy and some potato pieces were all crisp with little internal fluff. I'll need to make bigger pieces next time. Haven't used the probe yet. Nice to have the 2 minute extra and the 450° for 2 minute controls but haven't used them either. Front panel controls are super intuitive to use. Temperature can be controlled in 5° increments I'm used to using tongs to remove good from ninja so not big deal here for me but the crisper plate is not super tight and might fall out if you turn basket upside down. Nice 10" x 10: cooking area is just slightly larger the majority of air fryers but the square shape does allow for plenty of single layer food. Unit comes well packaged, nothing broken or bent. Small footprint for an 8 qt, just taller than some others. Will update once I do more cooks and regulate Temperature settings as this Chefman cooks hotter and faster than all my other air fryers. Biggest shortcoming is not having on/off switch so have to unplug or panel stays lighted and time/temp contues to alternate. ... show more
