Top Amazon Reviews

  • Unicorn Sprayer spraying Unicorn Joo Joo. Great Product, but with some caveats.
Its hard to find various reviews and get answers on this product. But after a month with it, its been great. The older model has the boom extension that can be adjusted left, right, or center. This model had black bar you can adjust the height with green tip. IF you need to spray to left or right, you stick the wand on the lid and twist it just right to directions you want it. I don't think I'll ever do that. I chose this sprayer for various reasons and here is total review. 1. Need - My yard is total of 20K sq ft which means for most liquid application rates of 1 gallon person 1K sqft of yard I would be constantly mixing product with 1/2/4 gallon sprayer. With This guy, I do two runs with 10 gallons. If you have a yard that is 8K sq ft to 20K/30K sq ft with narrow entrances and variety of obstacles(need some exercise too) this is perfect product. Portable, easy to push, and once calibrated consistent. 2, Assembly - Average. At first it feels like it might fall apart, but you have to test and tinker as you assemble. Mainly with hose connections with clamps, sometimes they are not tight enough(even from factory). Handle is average, don't do twisting of handle to go over obstacles with full load of liquid. Tires are large and great. You will have some issues with large sticks, holes in ground if you aren't careful. There will be leaks, make sure every clamp, screw, fitting are on tight. I initially thought it was leaking piece of garbage at first until I tightened down everything. 3.Wand and Boom Operation - At first I kept the boom at the highest level to get maximum coverage, but that was not needed. The boom uses a green time that is flat on bottom that spreads the liquid about few feet wide. I would say when I adjusted it at 7 on boom stick, it spreads evenly about six inches past wheels. The Wand is SUPER! The pump and battery makes this thing shoot up to 20 feet. The adjustable tip allows for spray to mist. Its probably best spray tip I am using among my collection of sprayers. If I have small zone to spray like 300 sq ft, I use wand. Make sure lid is on tight otherwise the pump can't build pressure to spray with either. Otherwise, its fast and consistent. Make sure you test and calibrate both, especially boom to make sure liquid is spreading evenly in fan pattern. Adjust height accordingly, Also wind does affect this, if its too windy and boom is too high it will spray all over you instead of ground. When I lowered boomed it performed better and sprayed evenly. Almost a mist. 3. Calibration - You have to run tests with water on concrete to check spray pattern evenness and width. It can take some time, but once you do it right first time. It gets easier after that. Make sure you run water only tests every time you pull it out of shed. There is small design flaw with boom. It sticks out without any guard, if you knock it in the front, it can tilt nozzle sideways, and even in my case bend bottom green tip part. Then you have to calibrate how your pace and how fast one gallons unloads out of sprayer. When the unit is dry, you will need black sharpie to mark the gallons. You can't see them easily, but they are marked. Plot 1000 sq ft and walk. Once you set your pace and unload about gallon of product, you now your calibration pace. Brisk walk for most people. 4.Use of sprayer - Sprayer has been major time saver and has many advantages. I almost got 15/25 gallon sprayer pull behind by riding mower, but I couldn't get to small areas very well or maneuver easily. This guy goes along fence line, around obstacles, you can spot spray from distance with flip handle, not very heavy to push unless your going up a steep hill. One thing you will have to do is pick up large sticks/obstacles, and watch out for large holes in lawn. I dont recommend under a full load you try to twist/push it over obstacle, might break the handle. Unless you are pulling the unit like hand truck straight back. 5. Cons - Ok, no product is that perfect, but I do have few gripes that they can change for next model. I. Its great it takes a 24v battery, but its pretty much proprietary. You get 1.5 hours from single charge, but you get one battery and one charger. You can order from Chapin another one for like $50 bucks. But I'm tired of buying proprietary batteries for every tool. I would have liked they used Black and Decker 20V battery which they do use for one of their 4 gallon backpack sprayers. I can buy multiple of those batteries and chargers anywhere. Even if I got 1 hour of use, I can swap batteries easily. II. The front boom which I mentioned before doesn't have guard, which means if you run it head on, or jam front in your shed with something else, you could easily break your green time nozzle which I almost did. I am currently trying to find easy way to order more of them expecting mine will break soon. III. No drain plug. Ok, cleaning the unit is not easy if have to flip it over. You can't grab boom as it can break/adjust when you try to do that. Lately I run product until it is empty through wand. I intend to drill hole in plastic housing in rear and use brass/grommet screw drain plug. Similar to what people install facuets into rain barrels. IV. Extra Tips. So my boom green tip is bent and may break in near future. If I paid $300 and it was considered sued by Amazon by the way. Please include at least 3-6 tips. Also I need to find out how to get one. Final Thoughts - Mixing. Ok, when you mix chemicals, fill it half way up first. Then use a pitcher with some water in it, add your product, stir it and slowly pour it sprayer. Then fill it up with hose on setting that doesn't cause excess foaming like Jet setting. Use soaker setting. Then stir the whole mix again slowly. It was first mistake I made the first time used it because I was using a surfactant (Dawn Dish Soap). Used Jet spray setting and I had endless soap foam bubbles and sure the product didn't work as well intended since surfactant was bubbles instead blended in liquid mix. So far I used Herbicides, Fertilizers, and Bio-stimulants. It gives you precision on large scale, but still maneuverable to small areas for variety of issues and it takes up small amount of space. Also, if Chapin creates the next gen model with my suggestions, I also recommend they drop price to $200-$225, they will sell like hotcakes. The reason I tend to prefer Chapin products is that their spray tips for their sprayers are superior to various brands I have tried. You don't consider this until you buy bunch of sprayers and test them out. This push sprayer was God send for my yard uses. Hope this helps if you decide to get this model. ... show more

  • Nice design, but low quality product and poor support.
A series of disappointments. In summary, it was expensive, it was defective, and the support is sub-par. When the sprayer was assembled, the tank leaked from the bottom because the plastic threads were poorly formed and could not make a seal. I shipped it back to Chapin (in its 50 lbs package which I lugged to UPS) and they sent a new sprayer after some time and repeated nagging of Chapin. Upon assembly, the new sprayer pump lacked the "on demand" feature and only pumped continuously (It is supposed to activate the pump only when the sprayer trigger is pushed). Groan. I decided to live with it. Within a week, the power switch broke----a defective cheap $2 part that Chapin would not sell me alone without buying the entire $60 sprayer handle assembly. So I bought a switch online and installed it. Now, in its second year of use, the pump motor died during use of the sprayer. Amazingly, Chapin does not list the 18V pump as a spare part on its web site; it only lists 12V pumps. Chapin still sells this product but does not supply the most important replacement part? When you call Chapin support, you get into an endless support line where after considerable delay they ask for your phone # and promise to call you back. Quelle surprise, they do not call you back. Now I have a $400 sprayer that is apparently kaput after 2 years of subpar performance. There is an 18V pump online that kinda looks like the Chapin pump, but lacks clear specifications so I do not know if it will fit the mounting flanges on the Chapin sprayer's plastic tank. Should I risk it for $50? Continue trying my luck with Chapin support? Not satisfactory. ... show more

  • Works Fine. The assembly book is a B at best
UPDATE: March 2021: Red handle that switches from boom to spray broke off. Cheap plastic junk. Will try and find a brass alternative and by pass the cheap Chapin part. Now that I've had a chance to use it, it works Good. Once you raise the handles and start to walk, you can adjust the height of the spray by raising or lowering the front spray nozzle. The Hand sprayer, WOW, it puts out quite-a-bit of spray, works great! I like how you can pop it onto the unit's red lid and use the hand sprayer to spray sideways or any direction! I did notice it leaked a bit over the motor, my product was leaking out from the pump hoses down the back of the tank. Tightened the hoses a bit so hopefully next time it won’t leak (****Yes, indeed they are fine now). The sprayer does have a greater amount of product pass through it, so it does use more product quicker than the front nozzle. I love assembling things, but this instruction book is not very detailed. I had to refer to the Amazon photos on how to run and store the hose for the front nozzle. Hardware identified in the book is not identified correctly on the provided sheet (nuts, screws etc). Be CAREFUL with the little quick connectors for the ON/OFF switch, they ARE FRAGILE. You run the wires up through the handle, then through the switch harness, which all slides in together. When you're pushing up on the quick connector, they are only 3/16 of an inch wide, so tiny and fragile. Also use the washers on each side of the the wheels, I must have missed that step, and had to install them after my first spray (left wheel quit spinning, so I knew washers were needed). Wheel axle does seem a bit sticky, I'd recommend greasing it up before you slide it in. So all-in-all, good unit, and for 1/5 the price of competitors, but does have its issues. ****Nothing you can’t put some thought into and fix. Buddy and I are in the middle of adding two TeeJet nozzles to it to help widen the pattern, it's fun, and a bit challenging to work on, but in the end, does a great job! ... show more
