We installed this shade in my son's room, and it does block light. Just be aware with these standard shades that you install inside the frame you are still going to get a lot of light around all the edges particularly in the a.m. with an east facing window. My husband had a bit of a time installing it -- and it turns out the colored side does not face inward like you would expect.
