Description

The Champion Power Equipment 8500-Watt Inverter Generator with CO Shield® is ultra-quiet and ideal for camping, tailgating, powering items around the RV or providing backup for your essentials. Champion’s EZ Start Dial makes getting started quick and easy. Featuring Cold Start Technology, Extended Run Time, Electric Start, and an easy to read fuel gauge. With a 1.2-quart oil capacity (included 10W-30) and a low oil shut-off sensor, this inverter operates at an ultra-quiet 61 dBA from 23 feet, which is about as loud as normal speech. The no tool access panel and oil drain tube allow for easy maintenance. Operate your Dual Fuel inverter right out of the box on gasoline or propane, and easily switch fuels with the EZ Start dial. When the 5.33-gallon tank of gasoline is full, the 420cc Champion engine produces 8500 starting watts and 7000 running watts and will run for up to 14 hours at 25% load. When using a 20-pound propane tank, it produces 8500 starting watts and 6300 running watts and will run for up to 12 hours at 25% load. Our Quick Touch Panel offers fast access to all your controls. The Intelligauge monitors voltage, frequency and operating hours with ease, while Economy Mode monitors power consumption in real time to reduce engine wear and tear. As the electrical load is reduced, the inverter reduces engine speed, providing quieter operation, extended engine life and higher fuel economy. The covered outlets included are a 120/240V 29.2 A outlet (L14-50R), a 120/240V 30A locking outlet (L14-30R), two 120V 20A GFCI household duplex outlets (5-20R), a 12V automotive-style outlet. Buy this EPA certified inverter generator with confidence – Champion Support and our nationwide network of service centers will back up your purchase with a 3-year limited warranty and FREE lifetime technical support. CO Shield technology monitors the accumulation of carbon monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas produced by engine exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield detects unsafe elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine. CO Shield is not a substitute for an indoor carbon monoxide alarm or for safe operation. DO NOT allow engine exhaust fumes to enter a confined area through windows, doors, vents or other openings. Generators must ALWAYS be used outdoors, far away from occupied buildings with engine exhaust pointed away from people and buildings. Meets the requirements of ANSI/PGMA G300-2018.

  • Great Generator! So good, we bought another one.
Style: 8500-Watt + Dual Fuel + EZ Electric Star...
After very careful research, and a huge amount of time spent comparing Genmax, Pulsar, Generac, Predator, Honda and a slew of others, I FINALLY decided upon and bought this Champion 8500 watt dual fuel model. From the first opening of the carton, I was impressed at the how the careful attention to packaging was addressed. From there, it was one pleasant surprise after another. In short, this unit has thus far exceeded every one of my expectations. Quality build with thoughtful consideration to the owner/user. Small things, like easy to remove side panels with twist latches, rather than having to search for the right sockets to open them time and again.. Great and thorough instructions, simple and easy to find (with identifying label) "ground wire" for removal to convert from bonded to floating neutral. Champion even has a video to walk you through the process. Important, if you are going to use this as an emergency generator for home use! Very well built frame, handles, complete array of outlets (all weather covered), great digital readouts while in operation, darn quiet! Some ideas if others are considering this unit, or other Champion Generators: Purchase a magnetic dipstick. You'll be impressed how much metal fines it collected during "break in". This is normal with any generator as it settles in. I went through three oil changes during my 5 hr break in period. This was more than Champion suggested, but three quarts of oil is a small investment for long term quality operation. I used "Royal Purple Break In Oil" for the 3/5 hr oil changes. Quality stuff. 3 year warranty, as opposed to 90 days, or 1 year from other manufactures. I ordered the recommended Champion cover for the unit, and it is really tight to the point that the stitches are stressing. Just a very small observation. Flawless operation, even with various loads placed upon it. All in all....I made the correct choice! Update as of 9/10/24. I was so pleased with this Champion generator, that I bought the same one again for the guest house that we manage. As in my prior review listed above, again, no problems with unpacking, the break in procedure and operation. Both units will be used for emergencies caused by interruption of power due to weather related events (snow/ice storms, wind and wildfire protection by continued water well operation.). Very pleased. ... show more

  • Great quiet generator
Style: 8500-Watt + Dual Fuel + EZ Electric Star...
Well built unit. Had a loose blue connector which caused thd electric start not to work. Pushed the connector all the way together and resolved that issue. Other than that it pull started easy and runs great. Oil change is easy with the drain hose.

  • Positive First Impression
Style: 8500-Watt + Dual Fuel + EZ Electric Star...
Delivery was excellent - well packaged and undamaged. Build quality of the generator appears very good. I assembled, filled the oil and ran for 1 hour. Quiet, and no issues at all. So far, impressed.

  • Works great as my electrical backup system
Style: 8500-Watt + Dual Fuel + EZ Electric Star...
I purchased this generator to be used as a backup power supply for my home. I have 12 breakers set up to run off the generator should I lose power to my house. This is my 2nd champion generator with the first one purchased over 10 years ago and still going strong. This one starts very easily and performed well when tested as my backup power supply. If you are looking for a similar setup I would recommend a champion generator be at the heart of the backup system. ... show more

  • So far, so good
Style: 8500-Watt + Dual Fuel + EZ Electric Star...
The real test of a generator is how well it holds up over time. But for the moment, I'm pleased with the performance of this unit. I have only about 10 hours on it so far, so take this as more a set of first impressions than anything else. For a generator, it is pretty quiet. That doesn't mean it is actually quiet, just noticeably less loud and obnoxious than the rattly, open-frame generator it is replacing. The tone of it just seems to better fade into the background and become white noise much better than a generator without the shielding. I think maybe the shielding works together with the fact that the motor is pretty large to reduce the amount of nasty harmonics. It is particularly quiet at idle or low draw, but it doesn't really ever get obnoxious even when running near its rated capacity. I've noticed that it is more quiet to the front and sides than it is to the rear. So when you think about where you are going to put it, think about what will be 6-10 feet behind it. If that will be a fence that reflects the noise back at you, maybe orient it a different direction. Air runs from the front through to the back and then mixes with the exhaust, which tends to dilute the exhaust a bit, you don't get this single hot spot of very, very hot exhaust, more like a breeze of somewhat warm air from behind. The dual fuel thing is great. It means you can store a few days worth of fuel on-site essentially indefinitely, so you will never be caught out unexpectedly. And if you know a storm is coming, you can fill a few gas cans to supplement your propane supply. But you don't have to store a large quantity of gasoline long-term, which is a pain because gasoline goes bad and you have to cycle it out every six months or so. It puts out just under 30 amps at 240v. I have it connected to a 50 amp transfer switch that feeds my entire, 200 amp panel. So I use the panel breakers to decide what circuits to power and which to leave off. That set-up means I can run anything in the house. I am using it to power a three bedroom two bath house, and I find I can live essentially normally with it on. It can even power my 2.5 ton mini-split A/C with enough headroom left over to keep the lights, fridge, TV, etc. on. You have to be careful about not running a bunch of high wattage stuff like hair dryers, coffee makers, microwaves, etc. at once, but about the only thing that it will choke on is my electric dryer, and I could even run that if I had to, it would just have to be the only load I had on. It is a big, heavy, beast and muscling it around, particularly before you get the wheel kit on it isn't a lot of fun. I ran Royal Purple break-in oil in it, changing it once at two hours, and again at 5 hours of total run time. That's a bit more conservative than the manufacturer suggests, but I saw what the oil looked like at two hours, and am glad I did two oil changes in the first five hours of run time instead of one. Then I put synthetic mobil one into it, which is supposedly good for 100 hrs of run time now, but I will probably change at 50 this first time and see what it looks like. Oil is cheap, this generator isn't. So I am being particularly careful about treating it well so it will hopefully last quite a while, and be ready when I need it. The only thing I don't much like about it is that there is no place to plug in a trickle charger to keep the starting battery charged. That seems to be an obvious oversight on a generator this big and premium. If you don't keep up on your maintenance and run it regularly, then you will need to open one of the side covers to get at the pull starter. But you want to run it regularly anyway, so it will be ready when you need it. ... show more
