  • Good but there are issues
Color: Black
I've had this computer for about 4 months and have used it on my daily rides. So I've used it a lot in the 4 months. Overall, I think this is a okay bike computer but I think it does have issues to consider. Some of the likes is it was easy to set up, install, and to use. I like the size of the screen size making it really easy to read. Once locked into the mount, it was very is very secure. There haven't been any vibration or rattling. But it does take a little effort to get it to lock in. But on the down side, I've had problems with the control head losing a signal from the sensor. I've used Cateye wireless bike computers for about 15 years and have owned 5 or 6. With those, I had a couple of issues with LED bike lights interfering with the signal. But usually the interference went away with changing lights or the light settings. However, this new Padrone seems to lose a signal really easy causing it to be off as much as a mile or two on 30 to 40 mile rides. And it seems the interference can come from not just lights but my phone (usually in my bike shirt rear pocket), surrounding cars, houses, and busy streets. I did several tests shutting off my lights and phone but still had problems. It has been tough determining the interference source. I contacted Cateye and was basically told that this was common and expected from their "lower-economical" computers. When I bought this computer, I didn't expect it perform like the higher-priced blue-tooth and GPS models. But I did expect it to perform as well as my previous Cateye computers. It hasn't. They performed a lot better. I've been road biking for 20+ years and have some decent experience with bike computers. So in my opinion if you are looking for something just to monitor speed and have a pretty good idea about distance, the basic Padrone should work okay for you. But if you are training for races or want to have fairly accurate data, I would look at a different model. ... show more

  • Tricky To Set Up - But Worth It
Color: Black
Like some some other users, I found the setup a bit challenging. All the instructions are pictures only but fairly intuitive once you get the hang of it. To set up the computer, basically you long-press the mode button to select what you want to adjust and then short-press the same button to confirm. It took me several tries to get it all right. There is a handy table in the instructions showing the numerical setting for various tire sizes. Mine was listed and I would guess many other common sizes are as well. Fixing the equipment to the bike presented different challenges. I bought the separate Cat Eye Out Front Bracket, which installs very easily. The computer slides into this easily with a snap when it is fully in place. The bracket holds the device very firmly, which is important considering the vibration and bumps of biking but also makes it a bit difficult to remove. I found the best way was to stand in front of the bike, facing backward, and pulling it out. Mounting the sensor and magnet is the trickiest of all. Be sure to mount the sensor right side up - otherwise it will face forward and likely move with wind resistance. I made this mistake so that I needed to get additional zip ties, which can be ordered from Cat Eye. I found compatible (2mm) zip ties at Lowes. Positioning the sensor and magnet took me several attempts before I got it right. The instructions would have you put the sensor high on the fork. However, if you do that it will be further from the magnet because the spokes bend inward on the tire. This distance has to be quite close. If you position the sensor further down, close to the center of the tire, it will be closer to the magnet; however, it will be further from the Cat Eye computer. This distance cannot exceed 27 inches. There is a sweet spot around the center of the tire which does work. However, as others have pointed out, it is often necessary to swivel the sensor at an angle inward, to get close enough to the magnet. Unfortunately, the instructions do not say this and the picture doesn't show it clearly. I ended up positioning the sensor and magnet a bit more than halfway down the tire, about 25 inches below the computer. It is important not to completely tighten the zip ties until you are absolutely sure everything is functioning properly. Once it is mounted and set up, the Cat Eye Padrone works very well. Although the display looks rather small, the numbers are easily visible, including with sunglasses. Using MPH, the speed is shown in tenths of a mile and the distance traveled in hundredths of a mile. The distance measured matched my GPS precisely. Other reviewers have reported problems with interference from strobe lights. I use them back and front and experienced no interference at all. If the brand makes a difference, mine are from Ascher. I ride an Electra Townie ebike which proved completely compatible with the Cat Eye. ... show more

  • This is a great alternative to the web based apps.
Color: Black
First off, i think it is more accurate in determining how far your wheels actually traveled rather than your start to finish distance. It is easy to set up and very reliable ( I have 3). I would change a few things: 1. It has too many options/line I don’t need to scroll through - like I don’t need it to tell me the time. 2. It does not give you the option of manual starting and stopping. The automatic feature is great, unless you are timing yourself on a short ride like less than 20 miles. If you stop for a light/stop sign etc, or to replace a dropped chain, you have to keep the brake on the front wheel to make sure the wheel does not accidentally start the timer again. Try that when fixing a dropped chain. Its good to compare with modern stuff. I ride with a friend who has strava. His app always has us doing 1 or more Klicks per hour than my front wheel reports. ... show more

  • Great computer and very reliable
Color: White
I bought a used bike and it had a cheap computer. I tried to use it but you get what you pay for. Cateye is a known brand and I have had on previous bikes. I bought this one and its easy to install, use and I feel its very accurate. Worth the buy.

  • Bump!
Color: Black
Easy to set up and use. Yeah, I also ran into the "bump problem", going over sharp bumps can cause the secondary display switching form Average Speed to Top Speed, but I can switch it back; I presume because there's that switch on the back and it contacts the mounting bracket under shock. Then again, I am running 120psi tires, rock hard, and others might not experience this issue. ... show more
