  • Excellent Excellent Product!
Install was fairly easy after I figured it out. Instructions were a little difficult to find but once I figured that out it went smooth. I did email customer service and they emailed me the incorrect instructions and advise for my vehicle and remote start system. After doing a little research online I was able to come up with the solution. I love this system and definitely recommend it. It has been very reliable and haven’t had a singe instance it hasn’t worked as it should. Will for sure subscribe after my free trial ends. ... show more

  • Highly recommended for the price.
Works as intended without any unexpected setup or use issues. Used with a Fortin Evo RS The downsides: Slightly worse signal than a cell phone, so in an area where I get 1 bar on my phone, it is spotty with this. Not a big deal for me as it is parked right outside so remote start still works with factory remote. Installed in an A pillar which seemed to perform better than under the dash, but YMMV. The upsides: Fast communication on a chrysler 300 between locking with app/factory remote/door button and the app displaying locked. Slightly buggy/slow between a ford fusion but that is likely Fortin related and not the fault of this. Setup went well with no issues when following their instructions. they include an adapter to be used between several different systems which must be used, even though it seems you could plug this straight in and the adapter switches 2 wires around. The cord length is appropriate for the 3 vehicles I installed this in without much extra cord. Trunk opening worked fine with me and it has other options to control side sliding doors/other auxiliary inputs which I did not use. The meh: They include a horn wire to tie into the factory horn which is optional and only works to send a notification to your phone if your alarm is going off. This is a nice feature, but it does not give you much information, just that your alarm went off. There is no history in the app to tell you when it went off so once the notification is cleared on your phone, there is no way to get any information about the alarm. The horn input for this is (+) and most horns output (-) inside the cabin, so a relay is required to wire this in, and on mine, I tried it into the Fortin alarm out signal and enabled the alarm system on the Fortin module as it seemed to communicate the lock and unlock status quite well and when tested worked perfectly. All together I highly recommend this especially for the price. Other brands seem to be much more per year, but maybe they communicate more information like car temps? I have never used the other smart start or similar ones that cost $100/year vs the $40/year for this or $100/3 year. ... show more

  • Stopped working with terrible customer service support
Bought this device and it worked absolutely great for the first year. Shortly after I renewed my membership for year two, it became very unstable. Failing to connect to the device more often than not, without anything changing in my location/usage circumstances. I reached out to customer service, which you can only communicate via email (Junior Charles was my agent), and they couldn’t be less helpful. It has been over 4 months in the same unstable condition, with no updates and no efforts to resolve my product. ... show more

  • Works great with start-x - 2006 - 2010 rav4
One phone call to car*link tech support to verify proper protocol. One wire install, no cutting. I believe Start-x pre-programs their units to work with the ascl6. All you need to do is setup an account through the app and configure the proper protocol. From my understanding, start-x uses multiple rebranded modules. The two protocols that I think are used most, are Fortin (3 lights) and ADS(2 lights) . To change the protocol once it's set in the app, hold the two arrows in the protocol section of the app for ten seconds . You can then change the protocol. The documentation is lacking, as each installation is unique. If you have trouble, simply reach out to Start-X or Car-link, both responded to me in an hour or so. For the 2006 - 2010 rav4 unit, it is a cm-dc3 style module (two lights - one each corner) this uses the ADS protocol. (at least mine is). Also no special programming was needed for my config, just plug in. Some programming sequences may be required for push to start or other car manufacturers/years. ... show more

  • Simple but lack of clear instructions for DYI
I liked how easy it connected to my Start X remote start unit. Blue conn. on main harness directly to the blue startX connector. No adapter cable nessesary, tape up the not used power cables, for my 2020 Honda HRV Kery start model. Although it never said that I just tried it after StartX sent me a diagram. App is great everything straight forward, until it remained in Test Mode, Which I think is set up for dealers so they don't need the owners info before fully installing and testing the unit. Then when then customer arrives installer transfers it to the owners email and that completes the package. So still in Test Mode 3hrs after completing and no help service available after hours. If you don't take it out of test mode I think the device resets the unit back to like new. Then you have to do the process over again. Ultimately as a DIYouselfer you just need to release the account put your same email in again and hit send, all is good out of "test Mode" You think they could say that somewhere :) ... show more
