  • HDMI 3.0 works, well sort of
So I was hoping for a truly plug and play solution to capture video form my Nintendo Switch and XBOX One. What I got at first was a little bit perplexing. The HDMI pass through had issues initially, not sure if it was just a bad set of connections or it didnt like the switch box at first, but it took about 5 minutes to get just the pass through showing video. The pass through does look like it is 100% lag free, so good news there. Then the next problem arose, my laptop has limited USB 3.0 ports, but a lot of USB C ports which are 3.1 version 2 ports. So plugged it in and it kept freezing up after about 2 and 1/2 minutes or so or using it. It was easy to reset it, but yeah, every so often video frozen but the audio continued. SO, doing some quick research showed that the most likely culprit is not enough bandwidth dedicated to the device, so off to find my laptop documentation and get some USB C cables to move my USB hubs around on my laptop to isolate a controller. Luckily, that worked and the device seems to no longer be freezing. However, the brightness on the video capture seems to be real dark, and the adjustments in XSplit for the device seems to not really set the video during capture, so there is more to play around with to get this what I feel would be 100% A++ 5 Stars. It does work reasonably well with some futzing around with the device. ... show more

  • EXCELLENT. Resolved Sony FDR-AX-53 HANDYCAM Live Stream problem!!!
Color: purple
My +1000 Sony FDR-AX-53 was UNABLE to live stream anywhere other than Ustream, for 100/month. I wanted to stream events, meetings and games, but could not. Sony actually was not helpful and my 1000 boat anchor was infuriating. (I loved everything else about it). After reading multiple solution sets with variable results on line, we decided on this capture card as the intermediary solution to our issue. IT WORKS. Better, it works simply. This is is a BEAST and does almost all the work on the stream, which is easily output via laptop. Rarely impressed with technology doing what its supposed to do well (rarity), this card is rugged and a work horse. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for anyone sending video in HD. Even comes with a super nice clip strap for field use, which makes it very utilitarian. The casing is very well designed. Someone was thinking when they designed this from inside to outside. Very happy! ... show more

  • A little persnickity
Color: purple
I often work from home and want to have a great video conferencing setup. For me this means a green screen with great lighting. Unfortunately, my new employer uses video conferencing software (WebEx) that doesn't natively support chroma key. This posed a challenge, how could I get a chroma key effect, like what Zoom provides, without installing additional software on my work machine? The answer? Use OBS on another machine and create an over the top video conferencing setup. Here's where things got challenging, although the device worked in any resolution with Google Hangouts and the occasional client Zoom call, WebEx would show the device as being present, but it would just show a gray screen. I tried different resolutions, and once in a while I'd get it to work, but most of the time, it was the gray screen. Finally, in a fit of frustrating, I decided to use a USB-C to USB-A cable and just put the device on the USB2 bus, and now it works fine. I'm not capturing 4k and USB2 provides enough bandwidth for HD Webcams, so this works, but I can't help but feel like the box is a little rough around the edges when it comes to USB-C/USB3. This was futher shown by how it needed to be directly connected to my MacBook Pro over USB-C, if I attempted to plug it into a USB-C port on my thunderbolt dock it would end up doing something that required me to unplug all USB-C devices before it, or any other USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 devices worked again. So, does the device work? Yes. Does it capture 4k? I dunno. I only go up to 1920x1080 right now. Does it let me do really great stuff with OBS for my video conferences? Yes. Was it unnecessarily frustrating? Yes. I have a hunch that this thing will continue to be frustrating. For my HDMI camera input I think I'll just go with Elgato Cam Link instead. ... show more

  • Card would not work or show up on OBS
Color: Matt
So I bought this capture card for streaming, I followed the instructions on how to set it up and it did not work. OBS would not pick up that the card is even there, so I went into Device Manager and the card shows up under the Camera tab which is odd. I clicked on to update drivers, it said that it is up to date but upon further reading I found that the last drivers installed on it are from 2006 so yeah. I scoured the net looking for answer, I can't even find the company website. The Email given is a joke, 13510873986@163.com, I have never seen a email like this, I sent them a message about all this and no reply. I spent 5 hours trying to get this to work with no luck at all. Oh and on their warranty card they spelled Brand "BrandH" So yeah... Look buy at your own risk, hopefully yours works. Returning and buying one from a company that actually has a real website, email address, and support for their product. ... show more

  • Could Be Better
Color: black
This thing is way smaller than I thought. At first, it had a problem with the Switch, but seems to be working now. Mine didn’t come with any instructions at all. So, finding the sound capture in obs was a bit tricky. I also have to say that the pass through doesn’t support HDR at all. I saw in the ad that it did, but sadly it doesn’t. It does support 4K, but doesn’t seem to support 2K (might be the consoles) but all resolutions under that it does support. It’s a decent cheap way to stream all consoles in one place, if using an hdmi selector. However, I really wish it supported HDR in the pass through. For lack of HDR, weird bug with switch, and lack of any instructions, I give it 3 stars. ... show more

  • Worked right out of the box!
Color: Matt
I am using this device to capture the video/audio from three sources (obviously one at a time) -- a Canon VIXIA HF R700 camcorder, a Canon Rebel SL3 DSL, and a laptop pc. The only minor gotcha is I had to connect the device's HDMI output to a monitor before it started working. I used it both as a source for OSB as well as Skype. ... show more
