  • Happy with this 2nd-edition purchase
For anybody curious, there are multiple prints of this game. Listed here is the 2nd edition. Why is this important? It's important because there are slight size changes to some of the player discs and some corrected mistakes in the game. So, if you plan on ordering custom overlays for this game you need to know which edition you are buying. The game denotes the editions on on the back next to the barcode (see attached image) which is something not shown in this product's images. If it is 2nd edition it will say so in parentheses above the "CE" symbol, if it's not it doesn't show anything in parentheses. This game when I received it has the 2nd edition symbol and the game corrections to back it up. This also means there are slightly larger discs than the original edition if you're ordering the custom overlays mentioned above. Other changes between the 1st and 2nd edition: - Misprints from first print run (Martyr cards, career card Adventure) are solved. - Rulebook has some upgrades and clarifications - 10-doubloon certificates are replaced with 100/200 victory point tokens - location circles on game board (especially 21a, 21b, and 22) are bigger - check marked circles on legacy tiles L10-L17 are now empty (without check mark) to avoid confusion There is one minor error in this 2nd edition print and that is that the green 100/200 victory point token has a misprint ("100" on both sides), but there is a sticker in the box to fix it. Note, Capstone is soon about to start up a 3rd print of the game but I do not know what is different. I don't think much aside from maybe replacing the cardboard coins with metal coins? All in all, I'm glad that I purchased this game and that it was the 2nd edition print. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • I should love this game
I just don't. On paper, it was exactly what I was looking for, Caribbean setting, heavy Euro, long multiplayer, has a solo story mode. Practically, the thematic integration was lacking for me - the rondel and sailing metaphor clash, especially since you can choose to sail far - in which case you get to take more actions? Shouldn't that work the opposite way? And why would we race around the Carribean in circles? The other major complaint is card and board design - I found state hard to read and parse, especially with the many different mechanisms that's a real limiting factor. Setup and game state are also super finicky to handle, don't bump the table and expect to spend significant time setting up. ... show more

  • Wow! Love it
I think solo mode is just as fun as with multiplayer. It can be a bit tricky to learn at first but once you get the hang of it it’s really simple

  • Amazing game
Very good components, replay is amazing with the different cards and tiles that can come out for setup. There are different strategies that you can focus on with each play, along with campaign story mode. Seriously could not recommend this game more. Received timely and in good condition.

  • Very fun, but complicated to learn
We have enjoyed playing this but it took quite awhile for us to learn it, and we wouldn't try to teach it to some because of that. We play Catan a lot, and this is a nice alternative.

  • Enjoyable game
Fun game with plenty of variables to keep it interesting. Set up can be a bit tedious and the solo variant is okay. The solo game is more of a race than the multi-player game. I would recommend it.

  • Take all of Alexander Pfister's game designs and roll them into one great game!
I like all of Pfister's games, going back to Mines of Zavandor. This game combines a lot of game mechanisms but adds some new twists. It even has a campaign mode to extend a continued story over multiple games. I highly recommend it. Because there IS so much going on it's hard to grasp everything the first time, but once you start playing it plays smoothly and easily. ... show more

  • Good game in a destroyed box
Great game! The box however was totally torn and crushed. The listing made the damage seen minimal but it should have said extreme. Game inside however is quick to learn, with many interesting choices.
