Description

In Ark Nova, you will plan and design a modern, scientifically managed zoo. With the ultimate goal of owning the most successful zoological establishment, you will build enclosures, accommodate animals, and support conservation projects all over the world. Specialists and unique buildings will help you in achieving this goal. At the heart of Ark Nova are 255 cards featuring animals, specialists, unique enclosures, and conservation projects, each with a particular ability. Use them to increase the appeal and scientific reputation of your zoo and to collect conservation points. Each player has a set of action cards, which you will use and upgrade to carry out your plans. Each player has a set of five action cards to manage their gameplay, and the power of an action is determined by the slot the card currently occupies. The cards are: BUILD: Allows you to build standard or special enclosures, kiosks, and pavilions. ANIMALS: Allows you to accommodate animals in your zoo. CARDS: Allows you to gain new zoo cards (animals, sponsors, and conservation project cards). ASSOCIATION: Allows your association workers to carry out different tasks. SPONSORS: Allows you to play a sponsor card in your zoo or to raise money. With a lot of love for the theme, game designer Mathias Wigge has created an interestingly interwoven game. With high replayability and rich components, Ark Nova provides a remarkable gaming experience that will bring the game to the table again and again.

  • A way to steal money from the player
Style: Ark Nova
As others have said, this is basically TWO maps (double sided) and if you want to play with more than two players you'll need to buy them again. In all the games that I've bought this is surely a rip off. Yes I was stupid enough to buy two copies of it. But it needs to be said that this is a rip off and you shouldn't buy it to begin with. Get Marine World and learn from other peoples mistake. Shame on the company to what could have been a print-and-play because it's a floppy map. ... show more

  • Very well done
Style: Ark Nova
This game has a lot of synergies, and while there is really only one main way to win, there are many, many different ways to get there. There are hundreds of cards without a single duplicate, giving you plenty of opportunities to try different strategies from one game to the next. The game is certainly heavier than average, but while there's a lot going on in this game, and many things to learn, none of those rules are overly complicated by themselves. This will not go over well with someone who isn't interested in playing something a bit heavier. ... show more

  • Only includes two new maps, which is not great value...
Style: Map Pack 1
I approve of more variety for a game like Ark Nova, but if these two new maps were going to be stronger than the default maps (they are), then four new maps should have been provided for balance. Instead, only two are provided. Both are clever and thoughtful, but both are slightly more powerful than the default maps. As a result, they are mostly useful either for balancing the game out for stronger players (with default maps) versus weaker players (these maps) or for 2P Ark Nova games. And like most "promo" style products, the value for money just isn't there. So, it's basically a product for completionists or Ark Nova nerds like myself. ;-) ... show more

  • Strategy game for board game enthusiasts
Style: Ark Nova
Great strategy game with multiple paths to win. Not a game for people who are not used to strategy board games - rules not simple and easy to understand. Youtube guidance recommended! but for avid and experienced gamers... its awesome!!!! Comparable to Terraforming Mars or Agricola. We love it. Target of game is to build the "best" zoo by combining attracting visitors (earn income) and conserving nature (get prestige). Great as a 2, 3 and 4 player game with several player boards giving options for different games. 100s of unique cards that keeps game flexible and variable. ... show more

  • Outstanding Game
Style: Ark Nova
It did take a few YouTube videos to help figure out the game. The first game took about three hours and we made multiple mistakes. However, we were hooked about 20 mins into the first game. There is so many options of how to play the game. We are a family that LOVE to play board games. Ark Nova may be our new favorite - it will be a top pick when we have 2 hours available to play a game. We love to play board games, but have found not everyone in the family likes the same games. This game crossed the gab and seems that everyone agree it's a great game. Remember - you will need a couple hours open to play. There are multiple ways to be successful in the game. Love that your don't really know who's winning until the very end. Love how many different options there are to play the game. Multiple successful strategies that can be used to win. There is a more aggressive game play where you can do damage to other players. We do have some who love this type of game play and others who do not - so for us, we did not play with this option. I have heard this is similar to Transforming Mars. We've not play TM, so I don't know if this is true. Highly recommend Ark Nova. ... show more

  • Decent game for serious board game players
Style: Ark Nova
First off, let me say I am not a novice - I am a frequent board game player, and own somewhere around 60 strategy board games. Cons: This game is good, but I think the ratings are over inflated. It is not on the same tier as Twilight Emperium and Gloomhaven I found this game to be extremely difficult to learn and the difficulty rating on BGG is not high enough. It would probably be a bit easier to learn if the instructions were better designed. The format and content of the rulebook is garbage. There are a number of symbols throughout the game that are not clearly identified in the rulebook. The majority of the symbols in the rulebook are sprinkled about and not easy to find. They have a glossary that only covers certain types of cards and other cards are completely vague, leaving the players to interpret what they mean. The size of the board is excessively large. If you do not have a large table to play this on, you are going to be in trouble. The game length is also very long. I've read some people say that "if played properly, it's not that long". You shouldn't have to play this game with a turn timer or a specific type of strategy in order to get through it in the suggested time. Pros: This is a very well designed strategy game. As with most games, there are some minor elements with luck. This game is good if you are comfortable with quickly altering your strategy throughout the game. The round structure is irregular and more or less controlled by the players, which makes for more interesting replayability. Overall, there are new and interesting concepts in this game and (if you have a lot of time, it is a good play. ... show more

  • Two Map Tiles Only
Style: Map Pack 1
It is genuinely just two map tiles for $10. There at least should have been four for a full set of players, even if we had to pay a bit more. The instructions for which I had to print off from their main website. The maps themselves are interesting and a fun mix up, but you have to be deep in Ark Nova with exactly one other person for this to fit you, much less be worth it. That or you have to buy two, and if it was pricey at $10 then it is ridiculous at $20, 2/3 the price Marine Worlds. ... show more
