  • Fry swim right through the holes
Size: S
I ordered the small but was not expecting it to be super small. It will fit in the palm of your hand. Even thought it was really small I still used it and thought it could work. But once I put the fry in the tiny box there were holes around the bottom and the fry just swam right out. The holes are way to large even the eggs fall through the holes. The lid that goes on the top does not fit snugly if you put it even with the water line. The lid will float up and off allowing larger fish inside and the fry outside. The suction cups hold pretty good, and stays stuck on the side of the tank. If you lift the tiny box out of the water make sure there are no fish inside because all of the water drains out the bottom holes so you have to keep the little box submerged somewhat in order to keep water inside. Even though I measured the size small was super small. I must have measured wrong. It would be fine for small fish like neons or small fish like that. I have zebra fish (danios) the box was actually to small for them to turn around in. The first photo is full view of my 20 gal tank with the little box in the middle at the top. The other photo is zoomed in. Not happy with the little box at all. Its cheaper to just keep it. My first order never came and I had to get a refund and reorder. The package did arrive undamaged and item had no cracks. ... show more

  • Great design, but be careful of escaping fry
Size: Medium
I really like the design of this breeder box. I got this box in anticipation of my platys giving birth and today, I found the first fry. The box was super easy to assemble and I was able to transfer the new fry safely into the breeder box. I watched the fry for an hour or so slowly swimming around the box until suddenly it slipped between the slits! At first I thought I was seeing things, but then I realized the poor fry was stuck outside and in plain sight of the other platys. After some quickly scrambling I was able to scoop the fry into a cup and back into the box, but it must have remembered how to get out and it slipped back out again. So it IS possible for very small fry to slip through the slits. In the end, I found some old pantyhose and cut them up to wrap around the box so as to still allow water to flow freely into the box, while keeping the fry secured inside. TLDR: very small fry CAN and WILL slip through the slits so consider using some sort of thin mesh material to wrap the box so fry can’t escape. Otherwise, the design is great! ... show more

  • Works well, buying another!😁
Size: Medium
I have safe little fry and more to come!!! I really like that it has suction cups, and is very sturdy on the glass. It arrived in good condition and just in time for my platy to give birth, though it wasn't originally the plan. I had originally put the platie in ther just to give her fin's some time to heal from another fish nipping at her, but the day after I put her in there, she gave birth. I bought the medium breeder box for my 40 gallon tank and it does well for two small fish. Today, I just bought the large, because I have more then one pregnant fish and it was very successful. I've never had a breader box before, it's awesome to see little fry safe and sound, from all the big bad baddies in my tank. My only complaint is that I wish the lid sat better/more securely on the box. Also, I heard a turkey baster is a good way to clean the box of poop and uneaten food. Mines in the mail 😁...it's all very exciting...though I do think my tank is about to be over run with platies☺️ ... show more

  • Get the medium. Sturdier quality than most.
Size: Medium
I feel like this breeder box is sturdier than some others that I've used. I got the medium and it's mostly the width of a 10 gallon tank. So it's a good size. Super small fry could potentially slip out the sides, so a little mesh reinforcement would be good.

  • Time-Out Tank for Dragonfruit the Terrible
Size: Medium
I have two female Bettas and a Pleco in a filtered, heated 15-gallon tank. Unlike the males, female Bettas should get along together. Apparently my purple Betta, Dragonfruit, did not get the memo. She has spent the last few months bullying her tankmates, chasing them away from their food, and nipping at their tails. This is, in the words of Supernanny, "unasseptable behaviour." Thus, I bought Dragonfruit the fish version of "the naughty step": the time-out tank. I made the adjustment of carefully drilling a few small holes in the bottom of the box so that she wouldn't have the added injustice of staring at her own poop while in solitary confinement. The time-out tank gave my other fish an opportunity to live free from sneak attacks for two weeks, and they became a little braver as a result. They are now all back together, living as peaceably as fish can. And if tails become targets again, I like knowing I can pop Dragonfruit back into the time-out tank for a bit so she can see, but not antagonize, the other fish. ... show more

  • Sturdy and great value. Great suction.
Size: Medium
I usually wait to write reviews but I am already impressed with this breeding box. I ordered it in size medium. A couple of my guppies are pregnant and I have had a problem with other fish nipping them on their backside. I took the out of the tank and put them in mugs but it was not practical. I popped this together in a minute and it was in the tank in another minute. I will update after the babies are born but so far this is great. ... show more

  • So much larger than other floating breeders.
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
I've used several other floating breeders, and have always wished they were larger. When I came across this one that showed the actual inner dimensions, I was impressed. I bought one to try it out, and it's been excellent. The suction cups hold well, and it has floating handle chambers as a backup. The grate on the bottom will keep babies safe, if they go down, and the divider leaves enough room for two fish if you get the right size for the right fish. This is the best floating breeder I have ever tried. Only thing I wish it had was a tight lid, in case a fish jumps or if the suction cups fail and the chambers tilt and lose air. So far, those have both held up, so the non-locking lid has not been an issue. ... show more
