  • Works great
Canon lenses focus sharply on my fs5, with smooth iris control. Autofocus is slow, but I never use autofocus when shooting video anyway. Can't speak to the autofocus on the alpha stills cameras, and the slow focus could be an fs5 thing. Not something I've ever worried about. It's solid and snaps right in. The color even matches well. ... show more

  • It works well and I would recommend the Metabones version V for Canon lenses when using the Sony a7R III.
I ordered and returned the Metabones V adapter to Amazon for the Sony a7RIII after two days of use because I could not get the adapter to hold focus on my Canon lenses. I then wrote a negative review on Amazon about that experience. However, I kept reading that it should work and that many Canon users were having some successes. I ordered another one from Amazon and received it two days ago. This time I downloaded the Metabones version V instructions and information sheets from their website and followed suggestions from the various videos on the internet. I also checked to see if I had the latest firmware installed on the adapter...it was. In short, it does work with the two lenses I have tired to date. The 70-200L Mark II 2.8 and the 24-105L 4.0 (version 1). It focuses quickly and holds focus on wildlife and landscapes (my interest). I would recommend the Metabones version V for Canon lenses when using the Sony a7R III as a result of my limited trial. Keeping the adapter will more than justify the cost ($399) if these two lenses continue to operate as well as they have over the past few days. Just take it slow and do your research. I have removed my negative review. ... show more

  • It works for my Canon glass.
I have been using the Sigma Mc-11 for a long time and learned to live with its limitations. For reference I use a Sony a7riii and a a6600. Two lenses that were really struggling with the sigma are my Canon 85mm f1.2 I and my Canon 200mm f1.8. I did not have too much expectations with this product but wanted to give it a shot mainly for the 200mm. Well it is good. It works really well with both lenses and worth the money because of the outcome. It even worked well combining the 200 with a 1.4 extender. Mission accomplished. ... show more

  • Honest & short review. The Metabones meets right in the middle of convenience & performance.
Here's a short and honest review for you! I own a Canon 24-70 2.8 ii lens and I wanted to use it on my Sony A7rii. I updated the firmware of the Metabones and everything. Doing so unlocked a lot of the focus features on my Sony..However, they did not perform well..at all. The lighting had to be perfect all of the time for this lens to focus. Low light? Forget about it. I mean not even pitch black, I'm talking sunset low light, this thing would not focus. You definitely risk missing shots. It wasn't till I figured out Advanced Mode for the Metabones (Which you can find online) that the lens focused almost every single time. But this focusing comes at a cost because the advanced shooting mode eliminates a majority of your focusing and shooting options that you enabled when you plugged it into your computer. So, for this item I'd say you meet in the middle. When it performs, its a beast. But you wont get all the awesome features that the Sony offers. If you're okay with single point focusing, super basic AF capabilities, then go for it. What did I do? Returned it and I'm making an investment into Sony lenses. It's not a bad buy but I'd rather use this money to use towards native lenses. ... show more

  • I recommend this product and would order it again if I had to
I got this to use with a Sony a7r iii to a Canon 24-105 f4 and it works pretty good. Make sure you have the correct firmware installed which you can get from the Meta Bones website and also the camera you are using any of these adapters with if you want to AF to work the best. A little troubleshooting may be required, but it is worth it. Some lenses I use with this I have to switch the a7R iii to APS-C mode and it works fine, specifically a Tamron 17-50 but it is a APS-C lens. Because of the increased distance from the camera body to the lens you'll get a little more vignetting when zoomed all the way in but it isn't anything that cannot in post. ... show more

  • Inconsistent, Expensive, and Does not work as described!
Save yourself the time and money and just buy a native sony lens. Tried this adaptor with my brand new Sony a7Riii and multiple lenses. The Canon 85mm f1.4/L IS, Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2, and Canon 70-200mm f2.8/L USM. Each neither mode gives you full access to all focus points or focus areas. When in advanced mode the camera will hunt for focus making it unusable. Green mode seems okay at first until you find out the only two focus points you have is Center, Wide Area, and Flex Spot. Eye autofocus worked but was very inconsistent. I immediately returned and purchased the 24-70 f2.8 GM lens by sony and everything was great. Also its very weird that you have to take off the lens and reattached in order to change from either mode. I would not recommend this product to anyone looking to actually use the features you migrated to Sony for! ... show more

  • Solid, Sturdy Solution for EF Lenses (Kinda)
Metabones is known for their design and this adapter doesn’t disappoint. I’m converting from the MBPCC6K to a Sony A7Siii as my primary camera and this was important to avoid repurchasing a pile of cine lenses (which of course are manual focus). I’m happy as can be on that front. Smooth autofocus is a major advantage of the Sony camera and having that option is a major reason for my switch. Sadly, the adapter hampers this functionality in a big way on my Canon AF lenses. So, if you’re relying on the A7Siii’s AF capabilities, best to pick up some solid F mount lenses instead. ... show more

  • Only brand of adapter I'd recommend
I'm a professional photographer in the process of making the switch from Canon to Sony. I tried a couple of different ways to strap my existing Canon lenses onto an A7III, but returned everything else and eventually went with this. Metabones is the only one I found that's reliable enough to do regular work with. Auto focus may still search more often than you're used to with some lenses. My 70-200mm and my 100mm macro both struggle more than they do when used on a Canon body, but neither is so bad that it's unusable. Changing up stabilizer settings so they're not competing (either the IBIS switch on the Metabones MKV or turning stabilizer off on the lens itself) seemed to remedy the problem most times for me. Overall, this is as good as it gets if you want to mix Canon glass with a Sony body. Not 100% flawless, but pretty darned good. ... show more
