  • Better than any ordinary grill!
I have had several what are considered regular gas grills over the years. This unit blows them all away. You want quick heat - you got it. You need a big cooking surface - you got it. At least 18 quarter pound burgers at once. Or a dozen burgers and a dozen hot dogs at once. You do give up the bun warming area but the third burner is still available. There are several accessory items that can be used on the third burner. Assembly is about as easy as it can be. Open the box: take out the cloth bag with the legs in it: screw on the legs: open the smaller inner box: take out the grill box: set in on the main grill: hook up your propane tank and you are ready to go. 15 minutes tops. Everything was in perfect condition. I have only had this for less than a week and have used it 3 times already. I followed the directions to season the grates. That took about 20 minutes. The instructions say to set the burners to medium which I did and after 15 minutes the temperature gauge was at 700 degrees. This grill gets hot! First a couple of steaks. Set to medium. Got to 450 degrees in less than 5 minutes. A few minutes on each side and perfect medium. Second some natural casing hot dogs. Turned the grill on to medium and went to get the dogs from the fridge. By the time I got back the grill was hot enough. Took about 4-5 minutes to make rippers. That's the way I like my dogs. Great taste. Finally some 85%/15% hamburgs. Set to medium. Waited for temperature to reach 500 degrees. Put the burgers on and found that 3 minutes per side was to long. A medium burger will take only about 4 minutes total on this grill. The high heat does give a nice sear, but you have to watch the cooking time. Very easy to over cook things. I am still learning. The unit does come with automatic start which is not spelled out very well in the listing. I did purchase the Camp Chef Patio Cover (TB90/SPG90)for the unit. It will cover the unit with the grill box in place. I just looks a little lumpy on the left side. The bungees included with the cover will easily stretch far enough to hook. There is a wheeled traveling bag for this grill if you want to take it somewhere. I don't think that bag will fit both the grill and grill box. They also make a carry bag for just the grill box. The grill weights 49 pounds and the grill box another 33 pounds, so this is not a lightweight unit. Some reviewers have complained about the quality and longevity. The quality appears fine to me. I cannot speak to the longevity yet, but I will append to this review after I have had it for a while. NOTE: I only bought this a week ago and the price has gone through the roof! I paid $164.99 and now it if $219.99. I would probably NOT buy at the new price. Not that it is not worth it. I just know what I got it for. ... show more

  • Forget the burgers - this will grill a buffalo!!
HOLY BUFFALO! I read the reviews and bought this grill for a car camping trip out to Joshua Tree in California desert. Forget burgers, you could do a whole buffalo on this thing. When you light the burners, they are so big...they look like rockets on the space shuttle blasting off, I kid you not! This grill saved the day!! I tested it out first at home and it worked like a charm - easy set up with the legs. (Always try your gear out before putting into action.) I also did what others recommended and bought the wheeled bag, because this thing is solid and HEAVY - it also fits the steel griddle. You have to get the griddle that fits 2 of the 3 burners. The grill as purchased from Amazon included the BBQ box - which absolutely rocks! Well, I show up to Joshua Tree and the wind picks up to sustained winds of 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and cold..I mean freezing "colder than a witchs bosum in a brass bra" cold. While 2 other families struggled to boil water and heat food with their cheesy camp grills, I fired this bad boy up and boiled water in about 5 minutes. As long as I kept the temp to medium or high, it did not blow out. I got the griddle and did eggs, bacon, and sausage the next morning, in addition to hot chocolate on the third burner. I then did marinated beef/veggies kabobs for dinner at night using the BBQ box, with room to warn tortillas - came out perfect on the cast iron grills. WARNING: If you are a guy, this thing will create grill envy. The ladies were joking about the benefits of someone having "the biggest grill!!!" You will outperform everyone else there. My sister-in-law wanted to steal this grill from me after we were done for the weekend!! The heat is so intense that the BBQ box bottom, beneath the cast iron grill, vaporizes drippings etc into charcoal dust - easy to clean. I am OCD so I oil the cast iron BBQ box grills and the steel griddle with organic coconut oil (high temp flash point) from Trader Joe's to keep them from rusting. I also put a very light coat of WD-40 on the inside of the grill to keep it from rusting. I got a seperate bag for the BBQ box. I love this grill. I buy for quality - Buy the best, buy once. ... show more

  • Beauty Is Only Skin Deep
What this grill lacks in form (style), it more than makes up for in functionality. The three 30 k BTU individually controllable burners get this unit to any temperature you want very quickly and has good temperature range control. The functionality of the cast iron with the high BTU burner units is what makes this grill so effective AND efficient. The third open burner for use with a pan (for frying, saute, braise) or pot boils water very rapidly. The higher BTU units allow you to cook faster and use far less fuel than conventional grills. This also make it more effective in colder weather. I grill year round and being able to keep the grill at cooking temperatures in 20 or 30 F ambient temps is a very important feature. Clean up is very easy. I recommend buying the optional cover for it AND carry case. They're designed to fit exactly and are very high quality. It's worth the extra money to protect the unit. If this unit has any downside it would be with the control knobs. They are simply to close to the control face plate and somewhat unwieldy to use and see. I recommend buying gloves to protect your hand(s). But, I would make this recommendation with any grilling unit. It's a smart investment. This grill is well worth the money. ... show more
