  • Understand cassettes and this thing does the trick
Style: Cassette Player Pink Pattern Name: Player
This thing works. It isn't glamorous, and the mini speaker on it is a joke, but with headphones and good cassette tapes it Works. I've been using it frequently for over a week now. I do wonder how long it will last with intense use, but for this price it isn't bad. Now I've seen other reviews complain about bad sound and their cassettes sounding like Alvin and the chipmunks. First, there is a screw on the back to fix the latter issue. It's annoying and you'll need a tiny screwdriver to get to it, but this is easily fixable. Mine didn't have this problem. Next, if you have bad sound in general, keep in mind the medium you're listening to. Cassette tapes, even the best quality ones on the best equipment, will never quite reach the clarity of CDs or digital. Next, if a tape isn't stored properly or was just not maintained properly, like maybe the tape was chewed up at one point, then YES, your sound will be crap! I'm not sure why some reviews are complaining about sound. Cassette tapes, especially old ones that have been used hundreds of times, will have some hiss and probably some warp. That isn't this device's fault. Maybe double check your headphones too. Now I mentioned that the mini speaker sucks. It sounds worthless, and I dunno why they even bothered including it. Plus it's quiet. I couldn't hope to hear it if I moved more than five feet away even in a quiet room. Maybe they could have taken that out to fit in auto stop or bump protection. I do wish this thing had an auto stop when fast forwarding and rewinding, though I know that comes with its own host of issues. I've killed a set of batteries because I was fast forwarding a tape and forgot about it. Left it for an entire day. Came back and the batteries were dead. It may have damaged my tape too. I knew this was an issue when I did it this last time, so it was kinda my fault, but life gets crazy and sometimes you forget you hit a button. I'm just saying, auto stop when rewinding would be nice. Another thing, this isn't a sport walkman, so you'll hear every bump and jostle on your headphones. Don't go treating this rough, and definitely do not drop it! Picks up radio signals fine. Last thing... I ordered a pink because it was slightly cheaper. They sent me a black. Others have complained about getting the wrong color, so keep that in mind when ordering. I haven't used the record function at all. In the end I got this to listen to old cassette albums and some underground indie tapes. It's for fun, and this served my purposes. ... show more

  • Good purchase
Style: Cassette Player Teal Pattern Name: Player
Good value for the money. I have several books on cassette that I listen to while I walk. The player tried to eat one of the tapes but I was able to rescue it. Overall satisfied.

  • Does not rewind
Style: Cassette Player Teal Pattern Name: Player
It's good for what it is. A cassette player and radio. It's good if you just like to listen to tapes all the way thru from side one to side 2 then back again to side 1. It does NOT rewind. Yes it has a rewind button. Yes it says in the product description that you can rewind. But when you get the user manual, it does not mention rewinding, but mentions playing, stopping, and forwarding. It says it records but I have not tried that feature. I assume they just mean voice recording. Also the play and forward buttons arrows are backwards. they face the left. They should face the right. When you play tapes they move from l the left reel to the right reel. EDIT: just realized this cassette player does indeed move the tape from the right wheel to the left wheel, which is the complete opposite of what a normal cassette deck would do. *shakes head* ... show more

  • You get what you pay for.
Style: Cassette Player Pink Pattern Name: Player
It's perfect for the price. Sound is why better then I expected. Plays ok, you may need to change the speed which you can do on the back of the player but that depends on the cassette. Just make sure the cassette spins smoothly before putting it in because the player is not that powerful and can eat some hard to spin tapes. Overall I'm positively surprised... if you know cassettes you should have 0 problems with it. Only big minus is that it's mono. ... show more

  • It's easier than the instructions indicate.
Style: Convert Player Pattern Name: Player
I read reviews for several CONVERTERS and decided on this one in spite of the very confusing reviews. Later I realized that on this site, you have choices of teal, pink, etc., but they are for PLAYING AND RECORDING cassettes, they WILL NOT CONVERT cassettes to MP3s. Be careful what you order. I read reviews mentioning the uncalibrated speed making it sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks and how to calibrate the speed from the little hole in the back, how it chewed up the tapes, how it burned through batteries, etc. You can disregard all those horror stories as not pertaining to the CONVERTER. I specifically wanted a device that had a speaker, as I did not want to have to wear earbuds to monitor how it was going. It does have automatic shut-off at the end of the tape, but if you have a tape that isn't recorded all the way to the end, you will be converting noise, so with a speaker, you can stop the converting manually. I have now recorded more than 70 sides and only had one get chewed and I think it was my fault for not making sure the tape was tight. Thankfully it was about the 3rd one so from then on, I put every side into my good old Sony machine and rewound to make sure the tape was tight, then put it into the converting machine. Also, I recommend using a USB power cable (the jack is not for the USB-C type) to an electrical source for a steady power supply. When I play the converted MP3s, they sound exactly like the original cassettes. I did several tests in the beginning: took the flash drive out of the device and inserted it into my computer to make sure they were converting correctly; the files are sequentially named (TAP0001MP3, 0002, ...) and I renamed them and made sure the renaming didn't corrupt them; I began converting them at the highest volume, adjusting the volume during playback on my computer, but that was too distracting for me to work on other things while it's doing its thing, so I tried lowering the volume way down, and the volume made no difference when it came to playback of the converted file. So, having said all that, here are my instructions for trouble-free conversions -- Have the USB power plugged in, and the flash drive inserted. Set the button on the side/edge to "Tape". Insert the tightly re-wound cassette and close the door firmly. Press the Play button on the side/edge of the device. Then quickly press the Record button on the front surface of the device; the light will begin flashing. If you need to stop it manually, press the Stop button on the side/edge. This has been a long review, but maybe either you'll accept what I've written and dive in, or it will prompt you to double-check some things for yourself. One last thing - of course you can simply play pre-recorded cassettes or record on blank cassettes -- the buttons on the edge/side are for use as a regular cassette player/recorder. The 6 buttons on the front are for the converting process. The Play button on the side/edge does double duty. ... show more
