  • Silence: BXI Sound Absorber Test Run
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: White
In an apartment flanked by the bustling subway line, the BXI Sound Absorber panels have brought much-needed quiet. Designed to capture and dampen sound, these panels have been particularly effective in my study, where clarity and concentration are paramount. Performance: The sound-absorbing material is excellent at reducing incoming noise, particularly the higher frequencies of screeching brakes and clattering tracks. Ease of Use: Lightweight and easy to install, these panels can be arranged in various configurations to optimize sound absorption, making them versatile for any room layout. Aesthetic Versatility: Available in several colors, they can be arranged in aesthetically pleasing patterns that enhance rather than detract from home decor. Overall Experience: The BXI Sound Absorber is more than just functional; it’s a critical component of my home’s defense against external noise. It’s a top-tier choice for urban dwellers facing similar acoustic challenges. ... show more

  • Size matters, right?
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Matte Black
The media could not be loaded. It seems that the description on the size - stating a cutting tolerance of 2% - has been added since I made my purchase (or I’m blind and didn’t see it), but basically what that translates into is that these are not exactly 16” x 12” x 3/8”. The thickness is close enough, but the length and width are off by about 1/4” (see my short video clip). That said, I was a bit disappointed because I needed to sizing to be correct as I planned on mounting some foam absorbers on top of them to create an extension of sorts to my studio room clouds. The foam absorbers were 12”x12”. Lucky for me the foam panels were super stinky, so I decided to give them a bath and throw them into the dryer for a few rounds - this ultimately made them shrink down tad, down to 11.75” x 11.75”. This ended up working out in my favor as now I would only need to make one cut on each of the BXI pads in order for everything to align properly. I know what you’re thinking - “why didn’t this guy just buy the 12”x12” pads to begin with?!” … Honestly, I don’t know. This was one of those late night amazon purchases, with a “buy it in 35 seconds so you can have it by Friday” kinda things. I had a few cocktails in me, so I just went with it without thinking.

In any case, the panels are sturdy and dense. I wish they offered a thicker option (like double thickness, not their other panels which are 0.1” thicker), as I would have gladly purchased a set of those. Instead, what I did for my situation was cut/glue a stack of two BXI panels and topped it with one of those generic foam sound absorbers. Cutting was fairly easy. I tried both a box cutter and an electric knife, and I can’t say one method was more efficient than the other. They both took a bit of time and patience in order to get the cuts straight and (relatively) clean. They did the job, however, and nobody will see the imperfections where I’ve placed them, which is on the ceiling. To glue the panels together (both BXI to BXI and BXI to foam), I used 3M Super 77 adhesive spray. I mounted them to the ceiling using 6 square cut Gorilla brand mounting tape.

How well do they work? Well, they do the job at the reflection point at which I’ve placed them. I need them to absorb some of the sound bouncing off my mixing desk, and they do just that. They probably don’t work as well as my 3” thick clouds that I have adjacent to the BXI panels, but they do help with overall absorption for the room. While I haven’t taken any measurements to see the real effect they have, they work well enough for now. How well will they work for you? Honestly that really depends on what you’re using them for, where you place them, and what you expect out of them. In my opinion, these are great for light duty use. They work better if you stack them. So, in a nutshell, I recommend them for light to medium duty use. If you need serious sound absorption for a music room or home theater, buy or make professional grade panels. For the price, they are worth it. If BXI were to make thicker panels, I’d definitely consider buying more to fill in some of the gaps in my room.

  • One pack of tiles are an addition to many various theater sound panels & other tiles .
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Matte Black
They are like their image & do indeed control upper frequency reflections. This is not the kind of tile I would prefer for serious sound isolation (ie.stopping outdoor urban noise) ,but they have some insulating ability. If your not really into (studying) room acoustics than these are better for controlling ringing, & hand clapping echos type of sound. Placed right these can work well for voice, mic, podcasting area sort of use, but 6-12 of these tiles vs this thickness, material, & price can only do so much as a room grows in size or complexity. ... show more

  • Color was off
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Shallow Camel
The product is very sturdy and well made it's just at the color was off from what we thought from the description. Against our beige wall, the color of light camel looked more gray than something in the brown family. For the reason of the color we ended up sending them back. We didn't put enough up to know how the sound absorbency was due to knowing they were going back. ... show more

  • Legit, Most reviews don't understand acoustics
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Matte Black
This is some very legit foam, has some weight to it which is the way it works, no secrets, mass=friction. WARNING: I see a lot of negative reviews from people who don't know anything about acoustics... They seem to think that the purpose of foam is to block sound. Silly, that's not what foam does. If your goal is to block sound you want mass-loaded vinyl, NOT foam. You choosing the wrong product does not make the product bad, it simply means you don't know what you're doing. Foam = Absorption (of high frequencies in this case due to thinness) which reduces echos in that same room. Heavy Vinyl = Blocking sound passing through. ... show more

  • Doesn't work
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: White
Complete waste, doesn't work at all. I bought 2 thinking it might help if I cover 100%, but this provides no noise absorption at all. It's simply too think for that. Do not waste your money in this and looks elsewhere

  • Definitely absorbs sound in my RV air conditioner
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Matte Black
Cut and made baffles in my RV air conditioner and lined it, too. 5-6dB cut in overall A/C sound, seems annoying frequencies cut more than that. Decently priced.
