  • Way way bertter than the rifle version
I've had the rifle version of this salt gun for years. It was always sort of a fun novelty, and honestly not ultra affective. The pistol version is the real deal and very effective. They obviously put some time into the design and produced it with quality material. It is much less of a toy, then it is a useful tool around the house. CO2 makes it much more powerful, and very effective. I almost want to have bugs in the house now, just to have target practice. It is pricey, but very worth the expense. ... show more

  • Expensive toy, but totally worth it!
So it's obviously a fun toy to kill flies. I had the original little rifle, and that's exactly what that was. This is a HUGE upgrade. It's not a toy, and it's super powerful. It's not going to break a window or anything, but I would imagine it hurts if you suck at muzzle awareness. The original sometimes didn't kill the fly in one hit, but this one pins their carcass to a wall. One shot, one kill. I haven't tried to shoot anything bigger than a housefly yet, but I'd bet money it would easily take out a horse fly, or maybe even a wasp. I'm super impressed, it's SOO much fun, and totally worth the money. I really thought it was going to be a "buyer's remorse" situation, but, not only do I not regret it, but I get genuinely excited when I see a stupid, unsuspecting fly in my house. Also, they sell a laser sight that mounts to the barrel for $15. Buy it now, it's awesome! ... show more

  • Holy smokes!
The media could not be loaded. I have and love the original for flies. but we’ve had a wasp issue for 6 years. I’ve been knocking the nests down for all these years hoping they would build somewhere else. Enough is enough. My wife wanted to hire a $35 a month pest service. I decided $125 for this little devil would save me money in the long run and no poison everywhere. I wasn’t really into the replacement cartridges but it’s needed for these bigger pests. I went through 4 salt cartridges and still air in the tank. Got rid of about 30 wasps all in one shoot out session. It worked so effectively and was fun. I shot from almost 4 feet away up to about 2 feet away. Some further away shots hurt them bad where I came in for the secondary stomp action. I included a shot that went right through the leaves as well. Very powerful. God bless the inventor. ... show more

  • It's junk.
I have had my salt pistol a year or 2. Rarely used it... Went to load the 4th cartridge into it and it leaked all the Co² out of the chamber... tried again... same problem... upon closer inspection it blew a white rubber O ring into the spot the salt shoots put of... Tried to fix it... No luck... 125 dollar trash ornament.... I should have known... ... show more

  • Great Gift Idea for Husbands!
I got this as a gift for my husband, who now gleefully stalks pests around the yard, so it's safe to say it was a hit. The gun itself is pretty heavy and is a good quality build. The kit comes with plenty of extra salt shots and a few extra canisters of CO2 as well. The only issue is that once pierced, the CO2 canister constantly drains. So you have about half an hour or so before it's empty. Pretty wasteful if you're going after a single pest. All in all it's a super fun way to pass the time this summer, but I'd definitely consider a pump action alternative instead of going all in on the CO2 version. ... show more

  • Easy to have to waste a lot of CO2 canisters...
This is an updated review, but I have left my initial review at the bottom, after this one. Anyway, I'm just revising this to share what I have learned since I got this, that I did not realize when I initially ordered it. According to the information provided by Bug-A-Salt, with the 5 canisters of CO2 that come with this gun, you should get about 240 shots out of them. And so, if we take 240 shots and divide that by 5, then we can say that one CO2 canister should give us roughly 48 shots or so. Ok, so that's great, right? Well, that depends I suppose. The instructions say NOT to leave a CO2 canister in the gun if it's not going to be used for a while. Then they go on to say NOT to leave a CO2 canister in the gun for more than 24 hours. And THEN, they say that when you go to remove a CO2 canister to slowly turn the piercing wing counter-clockwise to release any remaining CO2. So if you were wondering if you could take a CO2 canister out of the gun while it's not in use and then reuse it later? Well, that answers that doesn't it? So basically, if a big horsefly gets in one day, or one night you want to use this on a big roach that's gotten in, and that's all you'll wind up using it for that time? Then you'll have to use a whole CO2 canister for just a few shots... Something else worth mentioning, if you want to make sure your Bug-A-Salt Shred-er is going to last, is something else I learned from the instructions that I did not know when I got this gun. Under "Maintenance," they say to put 1 drop of silicone based oil on the tip of every CO2 cartridge. So if you are a newbie to something like this like I was, chances are that you don't have any silicone based oil on hand. And if you're getting ready to purchase this or have already purchased it, you might want to consider getting some. Anyway, with all of that being said, I still love the Bug-A-Salt Shred-er, as well as the company that makes it. And I realize that this problem of easily wasting CO2 canisters is not their fault, and is really more of a universal problem for anything that uses CO2 canisters. (Initial Review) I love this brand! There products are always of high quality and their advertising is always hilarious. This thing is a bit of a change for them though because it is pretty serious. I would recommend that only people who are capable of exercising self discipline should use this Bug-A-Salt gun. The instructions give a good idea of how powerful it is too. Because they say that if you shoot an ordinary fly with it from about 3 feet or less, then there won't be an intact, whole fly body to dispose of like with the other Bug-A-Salt guns, lol. Anyway, it's quite easy to tell that this Bug-A-Salt gun is built to last. Some of the parts are made of plastic but the parts that are the most important are made of metal. It's also really easy use it, as well as learning how to use it. So I'm glad that it has a safety switch. And one other thing. To anyone wondering if the laser sight that fits on all of the other Bug-A-Salt guns fits on this one? Yes, it is also compatible with this gun- The super duper mega awesome Bug-A-Salt Shred-Errrrrrrr!! ... show more

  • C02 stopped working after 3 months.
Really fun. Expensive. The ammo is expensive. And my gun fell apart after 3 months of daily use. The c02 goes straight through the handle, it no longer holds any gas. Bummed out.
