  • Excellent product- Pure, no additives - Competitively priced
Size: 1 Pack Color: 30 pound
So I am going to begin by talking about price: This sack of poop might seem expensive, but it’s actually in line with other offerings out there (both here on Amazon and at your local garden store). Any of you who regularly buy this compost have probably noticed that the price of worm castings fluctuates as much as the stock market. I bought this product because its major competitor here on Amazon, Wiggle Worm, experienced a particularly high spike. (I have actually bought Wiggle Worm 14 times starting in 2015 and as recently 2021.). The most I paid (after sales tax of 7%) was $42.15… which certainly felt like price gouging. So … I gave this brand a try. I was very pleased that I did. It is that rich black organic matter that I am very familiar with. Clearly there were no additives, it was completely pure. It had no odor (exactly as it should be). Something I read in the recent reviews of Wiggle Worm earthworm castings was that evidently they have been putting additives in their mix. Folks were even posting pictures of what the mixture looked like. Frankly, that spooked me. I think, even if Wiggle Worm does come back down in price, I might not buy from them based on those reviews that were backed up by photos. To make things worse, some reviewers said their bags contained gnats. — Listen, I have always loved Wiggle Worm, but business is business. If you happen to use the Square Foot Gardening method, this definitely could be used as one of your five composts to create your “soil” mixture. I use it for exactly that. However, I do also use it as a ground soil amendment . It’s remarkably versatile. It helps to give your soil medium the “friable” texture that is ideal for plant growth and plant health. Overall, this is an excellent product. I highly recommend. ... show more

  • Yes, spending your money on these bags of crap is a good investment.
Size: 2 Pack Color: 30 pound
These worm castings are great. I got them to fertilize the cheap potting soil I used fill my raised beds, and to revitalize some old potting soil. So far its working great. The flowers and vegetables I've planted have sprouted and look strong. I added about an inch of worm castings to the top of the soil and mixed it in with a garden fork. I added some additional castings into holes I buried the flower roots in. The Good - Cheap The local greenhouse was charging about the same price for half as many worm castings. I paid $1.10 a pound for these. - No smell and good appearance The castings don't have much of a smell. A very slight damp, earthy scent if you sniff them closely. They have a very dark black color and are granular in shape, a few small clumps here and there; easily broken apart by hand. Very healthy looking. - The plants like them With the weather getting warmer by the day, the seeds and roots I've planted are slowly, but surely coming up. So far all my plants look healthy and I expect lovely blooms and a good vegetable harvest. The Bad - Goes faster than I'd like While these are cheap as far as worm castings go, they still cost over 30 dollars a bag. It took one bag to add about an inch of castings each to two of my small raised beds. These castings will get used up fast, so plan accordingly, especially if you've got a large garden or if you like to be extra generous with your worm castings. If I need more worm castings in the future, these will be at the top of my list. I've yet to make worm tea out of these, so I can't say how effective it is in that regard. ... show more

  • The Right Stuff!
Size: 1 Pack Color: 30 pound
These are 100% worm castings. This is the great stuff. I have had my own worm bin for many years and when my worms have completed making their cycle of making castings, this is exactly what it feels like, looks like, and smells like. This may not seem remarkable but is is. Most companies that see worm castings put a bunch of cheap steer manure in - so much of that that it actually smells like manure, not castings! Or they put a bunch of rocks in the bag because rocks are heavy. So, then you get far less castings than you would have if they had simply put castings in the bag. Price wise it is competitive. Good buy! ... show more

  • Helped my tomatoes grow faster than any other season
Size: 1 Pack Color: 30 pound
This soil is really different than the hundred others that I've bought in the past 20 years. The stems seem more better health wise, strong and stable growth wise, with a darker and larger in size. Theres also a more rich color than usual. I used the same seeds and methods, this soil is really something else. The quality also looks amazing too. I would definitely recommend buying if your either new or an expert on farming, the Ease of use and versatility suits any plant. ... show more

  • Always put a handful of worm castings in the hole and mix it with the soil when planting the garden.
Size: 1 Pack Color: 30 pound
Good quality castings. I usually purchase in the off-season. The best thing to do to regenerate your garden is to add natural organic material/mulch every year. Soil organisms will increase and break it down into food for the plants. The soil will increase in fertility, be protected from the damaging effects of the sun/weather, and help reduce erosion and watering needs. Red wiggler composting worms (I added to the garden) like to stay near the surface, aerate the soil, and make their own castings. I use a combination of fish emulsion, liquid kelp seaweed, and Texas Tomato Food during the growing season. I use Espoma Tomato Tone, Black Kow compost, and mushroom soil when planting seedlings for their long-term high-quality effects. I use 10 foot-tall metal t-posts to support my sweet pepper plants. One group of 4 plants around each post was over 8 feet tall in '23. They were over 7 feet-tall in '22. Regenerate your garden every year by planting a cover crop in late summer or early fall. Living roots in soil helps: prevent erosion, keeps the soil sponge-like and helps soil organisms stay active longer. This year I'm trying Siberian, Black, and Red Russian kales. Fresh winter greens are wonderful. Just brush any snow away and harvest from the bottom up. Try what's best for your needs and growing zone. Teach a child to grow plants and take your garden to new levels. People will ask how you did it! Thank you for hitting the 'helpful' button! My best wishes for your gardening success. ... show more
