Got this for my 12 year old granddaughter that actually pointed it out to me as a gift idea. And she likes it quite a bit. Then once she opened the gift and we got it charged, the adults in the room couldn't stop playing with it either. It looks really cool. And even though it doesn't do all that much, it does do more than I expected for the money. What it is, is a plastic, LED lighted, 3 inch orb that serves as both a nightlight and fun toy. And it's chargeable with an included USB charger. So you can sit anywhere and mess with it (we had a pretty good time checking it out outside at night). Or, you can just leave it plugged in on the included stand to sit upon a desktop or table. Then, you can control the light show with the included remote. Pretty nice. And once fully charged, which takes awhile, it holds the charge well enough. You'll know it needs to be recharged when the light show effects won't kick in and all you can get the orb to do is change colors. And know too that this is likely how it will be coming out of the box. You'll need to plug it in for a couple of hours before you can make the special effects work. What it does, is change into like 20 different colors. And the orb is designed to look kind of like a planet. It's really cool looking. Then you can affect a strobe effect, continuous color change effect, flashing effect, and a few other effects as well. The effects are very cool and in a dark room. They put on a little bit of a light show on the walls and ceiling. But, know that this is NOT designed as a projection lamp. It's just kind of a fringe benefit of the light show designed to take place inside the orb. Now the stand, the stand I don't like, but it does work. For me, it's just too small to effectively hold the orb. And putting that little stand together gave my spatially challenged mind fits. Then once I figured it out, it didn't want to stay in place. I ended up gluing it for her and that kept it together. But, I thought as well that this little wooden stand would be easily lost or broken, so I ended up constructing a better one, not a big deal to build really. Now is it worth the money? Well, she sure plays with it a lot and she does still leave it on all night. But as an adult, I think I'd get bored with it before very long and wouldn't want to pop for this kind of money. And, I don't use a night light anyway. But I do have to admit, I did find this orb quite amusing initially, and it seems to be pretty much unbreakable. I got this for my daughter as a gift and she likes it. Once she got it charged, it was magical in her room. It looks really cool. This moon lamp is gorgeous! The colors are vibrant, and the remote makes it super easy to switch modes. It’s the perfect size for a nightstand and adds a cozy, magical glow to any room. It's chargeable with an included USB charger. you can just leave it plugged in on the included stand to sit upon a desktop or table. It takes awhile to charge but it holds the charge well enough. You'll know it needs to be recharged when the light show effects won't kick in and all you can get is the orb to do is change colors. You'll need to plug it in for a couple of hours before you can make the special effects work. It can change into many different colors. And the orb is designed to look kind of like a planet. I chose this specific lamp after thumbing through user photos for several different brands/models because it seemed to have more more details on the moon/planet surface than the others. I particularly like it illuminated with white light as that shows the variation of color on the moon/planet surface. There's a very small metal bump on the bottom of the globe that is touch-sensitive so you can turn on the lamp by tapping on it, change colors by tapping on it consecutively, and turn it off by long touching it. It also comes with a remote control that allows you to adjust the colors, brightness, and type of color transition (e.g., immediate change of color versus slow fade from one color to another). Some names on the remote for the color transitions don't quite make sense...maybe they were lost in translation from Chinese to English. One feature I'd failed to notice when I read the description was that it has a rechargeable battery in it. So needing to use a cord while it's running is optional. The only negative is that the rechargeable battery doesn't seem to hold a charge for more than an hour or two (I suspect this generation will lessen as the battery ages). But it's still nice to have the option to run off battery, especially for example if the power goes out and you're using it for a light source. It also comes with a charging cord. A blue/purple light will glow as it's charging and turn off when the charge is complete. I've only used it twice I will update my review if I come across any issues. But overall at the moment I'm quite satisfied with this purchase. ... show more
