Description

Chemi-pure is the original formula for over 50 years with millions of satisfied customers. It was invented by Dick Boyd in the 1960's. Chemi-pure combines high grade granular activated carbon with advanced ion exchange resins offering superior filtration for your freshwater, reef, or marine aquarium. Together, this proprietary blend removes odors and color- causing dissolved organic molecules along with toxins, medications, phenols, and dissolved metals. Chemi-pure's exclusive media formula has an ideal pore size for absorbing nitrogenous wastes and dissolved organics in your aquarium water while being the safest filter media available. Chemi-pure will keep your aquarium healthy, stable, and crystal clear. Keep Chemi-pure sealed in container until ready for use. Rinse lightly under running water then place nylon bag in any external power filter, canister filter, or filter sump. Chemi-pure should be replaced approximately every 3 months depending on bio- load. If more than one Chemi-pure filter bag is used, change one at a time every week until all bags have been replaced. Use one 11.74 oz. unit for up to 50 US gallons.

  • Wash first!
Make sure you give the bag a really good wash in the sink before you put this right into your filtration system. Otherwise, it will turn the color of your water brownish. I've had this product inside my filtration system for 2 months now and it's working great. Just MAKE SURE you wash it first!

  • Works great to control excess nutrients in the tank
I've been using this product in my planted 80 gallon tank for a couple of years and am very happy with it! I use it to control excess nutrient levels in a heavily lighted and planted tank to control algae outbreaks. The single bag seems to last between 3 and 6 months; I know when it's time to replace it when I start to notice small air bubbles rising from my substrate and a few small algae spots on the glass. I do not use this as my primary filtration or carbon source; it's only job in my tank is to control excess nutrient levels in the water. My primary filtration comes from 2 other filters with zeosorb, plain carbon, occasionally phosguard mixed in, and resin balls. After installing this properly in my filter, it typically takes 2-14 days to clear up the tank depending on how much algae took over between bag changes. Even in a tank that is heavily overgrown and coated with algae, it works with-in 2 weeks or so. You'll notice that after some time, the algae begins to change color, starts to die, and begins flaking off (the glass sometimes needs to be scraped). The only time I ever change water is after an extreme outbreak because the dead algae begins to decay; in this case I only vacuum the substrate barely enough to remove the dead algae. After carefully rinsing the bag (yes it will be at least damp when you open the jar) and rinsing out what looks like rust and dirt, I place inside the media basket in one of my Magnum 440 power filters. I do not EVER change the water in my tank because it is normally a healthy system with lots of plants and more than enough filtration (over 1200 gallons per hour and 4 biowheels). I do not use the recommended number of bags in my tank (they recommend 3, but 1 works just fine for 3-6 months). ... show more

  • Instant results the next day
The next day after putting it in my sump, I noticed my candy cane coral, that had been wasting away for a couple of weeks-even after a 50% water change, suddenly puff up and looking alive. i have a 40 gallon mixed reef aquarium. I know it's only been a couple of days, but so far it looks promising. And for those people complaining that the item was used and wet, they didn't read the instructions carefully. I also though they sent me a used item as it was moist, but after reading the container more carefully, it states that the item is packed WET. It is not used. But I do agree that you need to rinse it well before using it as it has a good amount of debris. ... show more

  • Reinforce the mesh bag or double bag it.
If you are buying this, then you probably have a Marine tank, I would imagine. Not going to deny Chemi-pures compound stability or reliability, but I’ve used this stuff off and on over the years and it seems that every couple purchases I get one with a compromised zip tie. Damn things come open in my sump and it becomes a 2 hour long chore getting it contained. Probably need to 1) put my own back up zip tie on it and 2) put it in my own fine mesh bag or reactor type container. I’m actually done using though after this go around. Gonna stick to regular ol’ trusty carbon. Just wanted this to reduce my phosphates down a bit during cycling and it helped so I’ll give it 4 stars. Just wish they’d do a bit more with quality control. ... show more

  • Wondering if these were used before sent to me?
I bought 3 of these because my nitrates just never seem to go down for some reason and I was told these work great in reducing nitrates. Perhaps they do, but I am wondering if what I received was used because if you view the picture, all 3 of them have some strange condensation inside. Why would there be moisture inside of these? I took two of them out and they were wet/moist. I rinsed them off well and barely anything came off of them like they've already been rinsed and/or used. None the less, I put them in my tank, one in each filter compartment as per instructions and over one week later, nitrates have not moved. All 3 of these I received had the condensation. So, I went to a local fish store and found the same product. They have no condensation in them. I replaced the ones I got from this seller with those and 24 hours later, nitrates are already down 10ppm. I have one left from this seller that I haven't opened (the one in the picture). I think I'll just throw it away and not trust it rather than ask the seller for a refund. This is just very odd and I'm becoming more and more disappointed with purchases from Amazon recently. ... show more
