  • Useful even for casual use
I know some people dont think it is worth it to bet one of these just to do one roof however I like how you can get an attachment to use this on vinyl siding. Normally when my family does a roof we can easily get more man power (uncles and grand parents no cousins because they dont go on the roof -.-) sadly this time it was only two of us most of the time which lead me to getting this nailer. I will say that with this nailer you can really get shingles down fast which was the point since we were on a time crunch since winter rain season was coming. Okay on to the product itself. This thing is hefty and very easy to use. The first few times it is a little unnerving but you get use to it quick (the kickback and how to line it up). If you are going really fast you definitely need something better then small air compressor from Lowes however my compressor was easy to carry around on the roof though which was nice (didnt have a long hose). It worked out well though for one man operation since laying the shingles gives the air compressor time to catch up. It did jam a little and a lot of times it was just how you used it... if you ran the pressure down it tends to jam however a screw driver and a hammer takes care of that. Normally I would go through a few coils before it would jam. It does have a nice feature where you can hold the trigger down and push the nailer down and it will fire. Not the safest thing however it is a bit faster then the pulling the trigger each time. Oh... the tip does seem prone to rusting so I will clean it and oil or grease it while it is waiting for my next roof. ... show more

  • So far so good
It's early days for me. I've only run about 1 case of nails (7,000 nails) through it, but it's awesome so far. I love it. The gun did jam one time, and when it did, it was a real doosey to get it un-jammed. But, I'm pretty sure I know *why* it jammed. My guys aren't real careful with the nail spools before putting them in the gun, sometimes storing them in their pockets, and I'm willing to bet the little copper wires holding the nails together were a bit bent, causing two of the nails to be too close to one another, and at the wrong angle to one another. The gun managed to get two nails at once into the firing chute, and really blasted them into one another. I had to knock the breach (the magazine -- also how you load this gun) with a hammer to get it open. But, the safety mechanism worked perfectly, and once it jammed, it wouldn't fire again until I got it cleared out. Once I managed to get the breach open, I just pried out the old nails with a screwdriver, pushed the piston back up, and there was no sign of any damage on the hardened steel mechanism. It worked flawlessly after that. I'm not super thrilled with the "black" trigger design (as opposed to the "gray" trigger). It DOES work the way a roofing nailer is supposed to work (depress the trigger first, then fire on bump), but sometimes I try to use the gun in a more precise way (like when I'm installing drip-edge), and position the nail accurately by depressing the safety first, THEN pulling the trigger. Good luck with that! Very often I end up double, or even triple firing. The trigger is just not made to be multipurpose. It's made for bump fire, not single fire. It'd be nice if it did both -- but that would probably be a way more complex (and expensive) design! I would buy this gun again if I needed another roofing nailer. In fact, I did! Now I've got two of them, and they both work great. ... show more

  • Easily handled my needs re-roofing my home. I cannot attest for commercial use.
I bought two of these to do my roof. They worked well. I am not a contractor/construction worker, so I have only one question about it. It required a few drops of oil each day. It was a very hot 4 days, going slowly. Is this normal or not, I don't know. The manual clearly states the need for the frequency of oiling. One more thing to consider is that it does not come with the required nipple for the air hose. So make sure you get one if you don't have one. We had some already (my brother). We used a couple small, home model compressors, just to be sure of enough power for each. But it wasn't necessary. Each compressor had plenty of left over air to run both. We found this out by accident when we needed another tool (circular saw). We pulled the AC extension cable from one of the compressors to power the saw, cutting power to the compressor. We continued nailing with the other gun, so we thought. About 15 minutes later of continuous nailing the gun started to malfunction. After checking oil and the nails we traced it to we had been using the gun connected to the un-powered compressor. We were running off the little tank air tank for 15 minutes. I am talking a small tank. The whole compressor can be easily picked up with one hand. I am 55 and have some significant spine damage. My right arm is affected by it, causes loss of strength. Yet being right-handed, that is the one I used to pick the compressor up. So it is by no means a big, heavy commercial model. This tells me that the Bostitch nail gun is well designed and is very efficient with how much air is needed to properly function. I don't know if it would hold up under professional use, but for me it was easy to use and got the job done. ... show more

  • 42 Squares and 22,800 Nails
I bought this gun brand new to put on a new roof which was 42 squares and I shot almost x3 cases of 7200 coil nails. I kept it oiled and it did get used in the rain, well technically it was called an 'atmospheric river', but I called it 'The Story of My Life.' If you have imperfect smashed coils of nails, you will have jams (this applies to all guns) I used a screwdriver like a punch to knock back the nail set on the occasional jam (disconnect the air first). I ordered a case of coil nails from amazon and when it got here it had been dropped and the coils were all smashed and deformed and needed to be recoiled before use. Once I found perfectly formed coils locally my problems were solved. TLDR - Buy it. ... show more
