Just like the screen in a newer vehicle. Screen is detachable which is a plus for me. Hookup went smooth, and I might get backup cam later. Mic for calls is very clear according to people I have called. Now on my way to upgrades on speakers. 1985 F 250 is what it was installed in.

I love this head unit so far. It fits all my needs. It's fully adjustable making it ideal for many applications. I did a lot of research and settled on this CarPlay system for my 2010 Volkswagen. I needed a few other products for this particular install (a dash kit, wiring harness and radio antenna) but after a lot of splicing and shoving, I replaced the radio that came with my car with this new system. And, I'm pretty pleased with it. It does stick out of the dash a little farther than I thought it would, but it works well and the wired CarPlay has been pretty quick responding and convenient. I also chose to add a backup camera and if you are trying to find a way to run the wire to a backup camera for a 2010 beetle without drilling here's a quick tip; unscrew/take off the backup light piece and everything is much easier to get to. But back to the product review.. my only complaint is that I wish the screen's automatic brightness adjustment would work. It has a weird strobe flashing effect at night if enabled, and I opted to turn off the automatic adjustment and just go into settings when needed instead of trying to figure out this weird glitch. It's still a little bright for me at the dimmest setting, but for the price and how happy I am with the other features, this isn't a huge deal. ... show more

    • Outstanding for price point

This is an outstanding head unit for the price point. The form factor, features, and build quality are very good. It’s also a ‘real’ head unit in the sense that it’s not just an android tablet stuck to the dash where you have to navigate an android home screen and apps to do things. The floating display is a lot better than I expected for the price and looks good. It is capacitive touch as well. The real volume knob is a welcome upgrade from the typical units with buttons for volume. The buttons next to the knob however can get inadvertently tapped sometimes if you drag your fingers across them by choking up too much on the knob. That’s easily avoided once you see how it can happen. The single din form factor was what led me to this unit in the first place since I’m limited to single din with a very tight bezel on my 1996 f-350. The floating display clears the bezel perfectly and can be angled perfectly to the driver. The only thing to consider is that due to the weight and floating display this single din will have to be supported in the rear. The factory rear support for mine was gone so I had to make one for my truck. I wouldn’t personally rely on just the sleeve for mounting. I wouldn’t hesitate to install one of these even in a double din slot after using it though. The input and output options are very full featured. I liked that in addition to front and rear camera inputs there are also 500ma power outputs to connect for the cameras so you don’t have to scavenge power from somewhere else. Many of the inputs are pigtailed as well so you have more flexibility on placement and the ability to seal plugs like RCAs together with tape or heat shrink so they don’t come loose. I’m not that picky on audio but everything sounds fine to me. There are also a lot of good UI/config options such as the ability to disable the license agreement from popping up every time after the first view, etc. The only real issue I’ve run into is that sometimes upon restarting the vehicle after having listened to BT audio or CarPlay it starts up with the volume muted or at 0. Easy to deal with once you realize what’s going on. I don’t see any firmware updates so I’m not sure if Boss provides any. ... show more

    • Ghost touching

I’ve been having nothing but issues since I’ve installed this. It’s constantly freezing on the “boss” intro screen so I have to take the screen off shut my truck off for a minute and have to restart it. Now the issue is ghost touching where it’s constantly switching screens with out me touching it.

Pros: Clear display Sturdy build CarPlay Removable display Simple UI Cons: Using a AXXESS ASWC-1 for steering wheel controls does not work for this unit for some reason. I had it working to get volume up, down, and seek down (back) buttons in my 2017 Prius working. But seek up (forwards), PTT, On hook, and off hook did not work. I was upgrading from a BOSS BVCP9700A due that unit being too far set into the dash for me to see the screen clearly. BVCP9700A does have all SWC buttons working correctly, but this one does not. I even tried updating the software and still had issues. Overall, I would have loved to wanted to keep this. But I do love having my steering wheel controls working properly more. ... show more
