I always use Bosch parts when they have one for what I need. This was to replace a faulty alternator in a 2001 F-250 Super Duty XL 5.4 Triton engine. That was the original alternator that just decided that it had had enough. Just be safe I went and had this tested to make sure it was completely functional before hooking it up to the truck. Note if you are attempting to replace the alternator yourself. Once you have the serpentine belt removed from the alternator. The bottom 210 mm fasteners remove those first then the top. Taking extra care not to drop it as I did. Also I was in able to find it. With the alternator disassembled with just the electrical connections remaining. It gives it much more maneuverability where you will be able to see the plastic locking tabs that need to be removed to get it completely disconnected. I spent more time getting the serpentine belt back on then I did for the entire process ... show more

Replaced the factory alternator with this Bosch alternator on December 2 2018. the alternator developed a clicking noise from the front bearing after about 2 months. Since i knew i'd have to replace it anyway i decided to just let it go and see how long it lasted, It finally died on April 2 2019. It is very disappointing, normally Bosh build incredibly dependable alternators, i'm not sure if they're changing or if it's just this model of alternator. My review of a bad alternator is the 3rd listed as of this posting, that's not a very good track record. ... show more

(2002 F150 with 5.4 engine) Have not put it under heavy load as it is not snow plowing season but it works. I did have to swap the pulley with the one from the old alternator as the one that comes with this one is too wide but this is very easy with an impact wrench. It took me a couple of seconds with my DeWalt cordless impact driver. I used my battery/alternator tester to evaluate it and it passed all the tests. ... show more

I guess it is not too unusual, but the pulley on this P/N Bosch alternator is much wider than the factory pulley. The instructions indicate "you may have to swap the pulley from your original alternator", which wouldn't be a big deal, but.....it requires removing a 24mm nut.....which is also not a huge deal, but...it DEFINITELY requires the use of an air impact wrench(as several of the youtube videos indicate). Else it installs easily. Also, the phone number listed for technical support ended being incorrect, and connected me with a div of Bosch having nothing to do with auto parts. ... show more

    • I saw what looked like wear on the pulley which concerned me

I received two defective units from this seller and returned them both. One (and possibly two) were due to failure to protect hardware from shipping environments. The first alternator I received arrived with a dented pulley. It had been shipped in its commercial box in another slightly larger box with no shock absorbing material between the air gap — no peanuts, no crumpled paper, no plastic bubble wrap. An impact mark was visible through both boxes and upon opening, it could be seen that the pulley was dented into the volume in which the belt would travel. It would shred a belt if installed. I returned the alternator and received a second alternator. This alternator arrived in identical packaging and appeared to have tumbled in its commercial box. I saw what looked like wear on the pulley which concerned me. Was it refurbished? Was it damaged in shipment? I installed this new alternator and worked well for about five days, when my battery light came on again. I spent an afternoon going through all the tests (e.g., inspecting belt function and tension, measuring car voltage with and without loads as evidence of alternator function, performing alternator cable continuity tests, performing a direct alternator voltage measurement). The alternator was truly generating no voltage. I've returned this one for a refund. The one star is for failing to protect expensive automotive equipment from shipping environments. The result is that a quick one-hour replacement has been turned into several weeks of car sharing, jacking up and down an auto, debugging hardware, and resetting power windows and stereos. It may have shortened the life of my brand-new battery as well. ... show more

    • Great replacement-alternator for Nissan Maxima (*** updated / I need warranty service )

No problem with fit and installation into a Nissan MAXIMA. The manufacturer-notes that came with the product says that the buyer gets a lifetime warranty for BRAND-New alternators and 2-years warranty for re-manufactured. The original lasted for over 9 years on my Maxima; my expectation is that this replacement unit lasts for 4 years or longer. This replacement is a remanufactured unit. **** UPDATE : Didn't make a year!!! The (remanufactured) Bosch Alternator has not even given 12 months service and it is dead. Charges great as it should. No noises. However it came with wrong pulley installed. Had to take off and install my old one cause these are out of stock now. And if you have ever had to remove a pulley, it's a real pain in the butt. This did fit my 1992 gmc sierra k2500 with 454 V8.

Bought this to replace a rebuilt unit purchased a couple of years ago at a local auto parts store that was not putting out a proper voltage. The battery would often be too weak to start the engine even after driving the car a good length of time. Had to connect a battery charger overnight. Put this Bosch unit in, and it is like night and day. Good voltage. Battery is strong, and the engine starts with no trouble.
