This is the first review I’ve done BEFORE using a product. I’ve read many of the negative reviews about this product and was confused about its cause. It seems that there are two main reasons for the negative reviews. (1) The hole in the baseplate for most routers is too large for the guide bushing; and (2) The router simply sits on top of the jig and the router, if removed from the jig while still running, can rip into the hole in the jig. I can offer a remedy for each. (1) Once I had read in one of the reviews that the size of the hole in the jig is 1-3/16 inches, I immediately knew that the router’s original baseplate needed to be replaced with a universal router baseplate with a 1-3/16 hole. This size of the hole is actually the standard size for most guide bushings; and therefore requires this replacement for most routers. Note: I’m not sure why Bora states in its product description that their jig doesn’t fit palm (aka trim) routers. But initially, as I have not used it yet, it doesn’t make sense to me. If the hole in the baseplate of the jig fits a 1-3/16 guide bushing, what difference does it make what type of router it is, given the router baseplate fits onto the jig baseplate itself. The router bit is centered within the hole regardless. I purchased the POWERTEC 71381 Universal Router Base Plate for Trim Routers and I’m not expecting an issue. However if I do, there are many universal baseplates that fit midsuze routers. (2) I agree that the jig has a design flaw in that the jig simply sits on top of the jig and can ruin the jig baseplate if removed while the router is still running or it slips during operation. I plan on permanently attaching the universal baseplate to the jig baseplate to avoid this situation. - Insert the guide bushing into the hole of the jig baseplate; - Turn the jig baseplate upside down and center the universal baseplate onto the jig baseplate; - Rotate the universal baseplate to match the screw holes of the router while avoiding the jig’ss ribs; - Mark and drill the holes; and - Install the jig baseplate and universal baseplate onto the router. By the way, the reason I’d prefer to use my trim router is because it’s cordless; and therefore, no hassles with the power cord. ... show more

    • Works pretty well
This works pretty well. It does take some getting used to. Nothing holds the router to the base, it just is centered with the bushing. It's easy to have the router come out of the base at the end of the cut before the router has stopped. This makes a cut in the base where the bushing goes, potentially ruining the base. I fixed mine by making a plexiglass plate with the proper hole in it and superglued and bolted it to the base (small flat head bolts with washers and nuts). I had enough of the original hole left to get it properly aligned. Once you get used to it, it does make grooves the proper width. Not directly product related but be aware that not all plywood of the same nominal thickness is the same actual thickness. I had 3/4" plywood that was 2 different actual thicknesses that I learned the hard way. One additional thing I noticed. Make sure you don't get the router too deep so the collet hits the bushing. This would be true for anything with a bushing, but seems easy to do with a plunge router. ... show more

    • YOU NEED AN ADAPTER FOR YOUR ROUTER TO USE IT!
A little frustrated with the company more than the product. Just tell people that they will need a templet adapter or a universal base plate as an accessory. There is no router that will not need this! They make it seem super easy in the description, but then you need to figure the rest out for yourself which can take some time. The Dewalt fixed base router has a base plate that is super compatible for the bushing that comes with this product, you have to adjust the fixed base depth though or the base plate won't sit flush.     • Takes some practice
First time using the Nora Router Dado Guide left me a little frustrated. I think it was more due to not putting in enough practice time on spare boards. I think once I get the process down right this jig will work out fine.

The adjustment of the router base, which assumes you place a small piece of plywood in between the plastic jaws for your first cut, then remove it for your second cut, isn't documented in the instructions that came with the unit. Also when you remove the piece of plywood, you collapse the jaw against the stop, but beware the stop has small protrusions in both sides and you must get the stop right in the middle or the width of the cut will be too small. After the second day of using the device I noticed the part that clamps on the Bora straight edge was loose, attempts to adjust it and keep it snug failed. Attached is a photo showing the underside where the screw head has indented the soft plastic. I took a small washer and ground off two sides so the washer is oblong and protects the plastic from the screw. No more problems. ... show more

    • Not the quality material I would expect
I bought this for dado-ing, and it has worked for that...but is made of plastic when a metal material would probably be more durable. The plastic tends to warp. When working with the two screws and the adjustable jig for the right width of board, there is only one 'stop' so sometimes it leads to an inaccurate cut. Because it is plastic, a support under both sides of the piece is required because the weight of the router alone warps it. And don't let the router bit hit the jig, it will chew the jig all up if it bounces out--went through 2 already. ... show more
