  • Fantastic feel and great palm rejection
Size: 227 PPI
I did quite a lot of research before picking out a note taking tablet. The biggest things I was looking for: • Palm rejection • Paper feel • Battery life • Ease of use/fast learning curve • Price for product The Boox Air3 (I got the B/W) smashed these out of the park. A huge thing was I didn't have to buy a separate pen when already purchasing the tablet itself *cough cough ReMarkable*. The feeling is excellent and I've had no issues at all with the palm rejection. I was nervous when I saw a few people having issues with it but was thrilled when I've had no issues at all. (Maybe bc of my settings or the fact I have little hands) the size for me is perfect. I was debating on the smaller one and worried this would be too big for me but it is just the right size to pop in my bag for work. I definitely recommend going to the BOOX site and taking the short quiz they offer to see which product is best for you. I played around on it for quite a while to test the battery life and it is excellent. I personally try to conserve the life by using very little back light if possible and keeping background apps clear. I was a little surprised by the Slowness of the charging but maybe I was just impatient. It's not hard to learn the basics of it. I haven't tried uploading anything to my computer or phone yet but was successful at syncing my Google play data. My big test will be this week I want to take my TTRPG sheet and use it as a template so I can play in the future without constantly erasing and rewriting eventually putting holes in my sheet. The ability to switch between layers and hide them if you want is super easy and nice to use so I am hopeful for success. The few disappointments: The pen weight. It FEELS cheap. The writing feel is amazing but the pen itself is too light and cheap plastic feeling for my taste. (Please note I'm not referring to the premium pen) I will probably dig through my boxes to find my Samsung one as it also has a magnet and feels quality with the weight and the metal. Storage issue. It could just be I haven't quite figured out the system yet but I was somewhat annoyed trying to figure out how to get my notes to STOP automatically uploading to my Google drive. I don't need 4 shopping lists on it! I think I fixed it so it will only sync the notes I want but I will give it some time and check again later to see if they magically return like a bad cold. The selection of cases is slim. Obviously this isn't the company's fault; it's a new product and not many cases have been designed for it yet. You have your standard colors and magnetic sleep options avaliable just nothing with cool artwork yet like with the previous model. I assume by the end of the year there should be more options to check out. I bought an aftermarket black/clear case with the magnetic sleep cover and it does its job. ... show more

  • Just The One I've Been Looking For
Size: 227 PPI
I got my first Kindle Paperwhite back in 2019 and I have absolutely loved it. However, I had been on the search for a new device over the last six months. I still wanted the device to primarily function as an e-reader, but wanted a larger screen, the ability to read all Libby books (including the ones not in Kindle format), the ability to read some news articles, and the capability to handle some writing. I tried a standard iPad. Definitely a great device with a lot of capacity, but I really wanted the e-ink screen. I work at a computer for much of the day, so I like reading on a device that doesn't feel like another computer screen. I tried the Kindle Scribe. It's a great device, but still has a terrible web browser and is limited in the book formats it supports. I tried the Kobo Elipsa 2 and almost kept that one. I loved the feel of the device, but there too many small frustrations with the capacity of the software. For example, you can write directly on an e-book (which you can't do on Kindle Scribe), but then you can't handwrite within a note (which you can do on Kindle Scribe). You can attach a Bluetooth keyboard, but you can only use it when taking a note in an e-book. There's no way to add text into a notebook. Even with the handwriting to text conversion tool, you can't edit the text as text after it's been converted. I kept trying to make it work, but found myself ultimately frustrated. The Note Air 3 has been perfect. The device feels great. It's thin and comfortable to hold. I can download the Kindle app and get all the benefits of having a Kindle. I can also download the Libby app and read anything there that is not supported by Kindle. One of my favorite parts of this device is the handwriting to text conversion. The Kobo had handwriting to text conversion, but only in notebooks and you couldn't edit the text as text after it was converted. Here you can use it anywhere. When taking a note in a Kindle book, I can write it out with the stylus and it converts it to text. Because it can be used anywhere, I find myself using the stylus a lot more than I thought I would. My only minor complaint is the way the stylus magnetically attaches to the device. First, it attaches on the side. Even though I primarily grip the device on the enlarged bevel side, I often like to place my other hand on the opposite side for support, which doesn't work if the pen is there. Second, because the device is so thin and rounded (which makes it comfortable to hold) the magnetic attachment is not very secure. On the Kobo Elipsa 2, the pen attaches much more securely and it attaches at the top of the device. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and excited to continue reading and writing! ... show more

  • 3 Month Review: Reading exp is awesome. Notes & Export UI is very unintuitive and cumbersome.
Size: 227 PPI
I grew obsessed with this device - for reading and studying (novels and PDF textbooks), brief note taking, idea sketching and concept drafting. I compared this side by side with the Kindle Scribe for a month. The Boox Note Air 3 wins by far for my use case, as an avid reader and an engineering grad student. Standout Pros: The reading experience on ebooks and pdf textbooks is dang beautiful. The Boox rendered scanned pdf books very well, including scanned 15th century leather bound volumes, while the Scribe absolutely failed at this. You can import any font type or accent that you want, and fine tune the text and margin spacing for ebooks. As a page aesthetics and LaTeX snob, this is huge. Not possible in the Scribe however, where you're stuck with stuck with limited fonts, poor contrast or just an ugly ebook. Modularity overall was a unique and unexpected surprise. Controlling the refresh rates and rendering quality is a huge advantage once you get used to it. The ability to set any artwork as the screensaver is lovely, as the Boox becomes a display piece when turned off. This also handles web surfing surprisingly well - great for downloading textbooks and ebooks/pdfs from your favorite library generator. Cons: The OS can be unintuitive and is inefficient. Exporting and formatting note files is a dreadful experience. Flipping through pages and organizing files is slow and requires too many steps. It's impractical to relocate written content 4+ pages into a note file. Because of this, don't depend on the Boox for long form notes, or a medium volume of to-be-transferred written work. Overall, it's the best and most balanced option of all the e-ink reader/writers for readers of multiple formats, and students. ... show more
