For years I've heard of using Arnica for bruising, but never tried it. But last Friday I had a bad fall and messed up pretty much half of my entire face; black eye, big cut & a scrape and half my forehead and my left eye socket, temple, under my eye and upper cheek swelled up like crazy. Also, my entire eyelid plus both inner and outer corners of my eye were all deep red and turning purple. My eye was swollen half shut and I looked like I was mugged and beaten, it was awful. I had a really important appointment on Wednesday. It wasn't until Monday that I realized it still looked BAD and so I ordered this via Prime and it arrived Tuesday evening at 5:00pm. So I only had between 5pm on Tuesday evening and 11:00am the next day to use this product (not including sleeping for 8 hours when of course I couldn't reapply it). So every 2 or so hours I rinsed my face and reapplied it. I could see an almost immediate improvement. The swelling went down significantly within a couple hours and even the deep red coloring around my eyelid started breaking up a little. The area on my forehead, temple and cheekbone had already been turning green and that too started fading slightly. By morning my face no longer looked swollen and my eye was fully open. The green had faded and was still visible, but it was not as obvious and the deep red on my eyelid was still there but it wasn't as bad. I used some concealer on my eyelid and a spread a little bit over the green areas, put a band-aid on the laceration and looked presentable enough to go the appointment without feeling overly self-conscious. Honestly the band-aid was probably the only thing drawing any attention to it at all. It was a drastic difference overall in only about 18 hours. One thing to be aware of: Some of the arnica gels have menthol for a 'cooling' effect. I deliberately chose this one because it does NOT have menthol for two reasons: 1. I don't want to put menthol near my eyes and 2. I wanted it as pure as possible; I didn't need extra ingredients that might dilute the amount of arnica. By the way, I put this very close to my eye, directly on my lid and at both corners and felt no irritation at all. The only affect I noticed was a smooth tightness once it dried. I put this everywhere that has pain, but I mostly use it on my shoulders. The relief is instant though it only lasts about 30 minutes. Arnica is one of my favorite homeopathic remedies, it’s nice to have something I can just put on rather than making it (you can make this with mango butter and arnica powder, but it leaves a nasty residue you have to wash off when you’re done with it). I was told about this many years ago by a naturopath before I had a large surgery. After researching it, I saw that it is not good to take internally because it causes instances of low blood pressure and other things. I did, however purchase the gel and I really don’t know what its mechanism is but one time I smashed my toe and pretty much within a couple minutes put some of the Arnica gel on it, and it took the pain away, and my toenail did not turn black, but diagonally white. It had been separated only halfway from my nail bed but never turned black. I use it whenever I hurt myself, as soon as possible. It works best the sooner it is applied after an injury.
