  • Flies well out of the box
I ordered this helicopter to get back into helis after a long period away from the hobby. I am very pleased with how well it flies out of the box, the flybarless system is well tuned though at times there is a very slight amount of tail wag. The orange blades are nice, it makes it easy to see the the rotor disk when flying. I wouldn't recommend this as a first helicopter mainly because it is collective pitch and that makes it extremely sensitive on the throttle stick, but it definitely would be a good second or third helicopter. The only gripes I have with it are that the instructions are somewhat unclear on mode selection for non Spectrum transmitters (I fly FrSky with a multiprotocol module), though I can't really blame them for that, and the fact that it is impossible to plug in and unplug the battery with the canopy on. ... show more

  • problem solved
product may be fine...I returned it. Seller and shipper are difficult to work with. Horizon Hobby did resolve the issue.

  • Flies Amazingly
Easy to set up, was BNF. First flight stable as can be. No bad habits. As much as I enjoy my 230s V2 (getting old and wearing out from too many flights and earlier crashes), this is smoother and more stable, even in Idle up modes. Going to be lots of fun to fly.

  • Don’t buy unless you know how to fly helicopters
I think it’s important for people to know this helicopter is for serious pilots. Put the box this thing is serious, not a little kids drone.

  • Blade RC Helicopter 230 S Smart
The helicopter is not quite what I expected. Trim issues switching from advanced to basic flight modes. The tail hub was bent in the box. This part does need some tweaking between the set screws to get it centered by adjusting the tension from side to side. One of the servo's lost a tooth off one of the gears in first few flights. The helicopter is significantly tail heavy and required an ounce and a half of weight to restore the CG. The main motor has some squeal to it after 5 flights. Several assembly screws (Jesus bolt, Motor Screws) where not tightened and more like halfway out when I opened the box. The stock blades are heavy and flexible so the maneuvering is not very precise in a hover. In flight the blades tend to balloon the helicopter at speed in looping or exiting maneuvers at speed. In the directional tumbles and flips the blades makes the helicopter feel sloppy and bog the power train. In combination with high stress maneuvers and switching from Idle up 2 back to normal flight mode the trim can be so far off the right stick can require 3/4 input to maintain a hover and full input to return back to the pilot. I suggest going through the calibration and trim operations per the manual before you first flight. I changed out the main blades to the Microheli carbon fiber blades. This gave a significant improvement to flight stability and maneuvering efficiency. However the trim between flight modes was still left grossly off. The Blade 230V2 has a better feeling stability over all but lacks power. This Blade 230s Smart is equipped with limited telemetry but at least gives you voltage and amps in flight feedback. The normal flight mode does keep a reasonable stability consistency but I foresee some issues as a new pilot transitions to loops, roles and pattern flight especially when returning to normal flight mode following Idle up/stunt mode 1 or 2. ... show more

  • The Good Stuff? from Amazon?
Indeed, I deliberately bought from amazon after finding this product elsewhere. It's good to know you can still get quality rc products in the US right now. Of course I broke it the first day, but local hobby stores usually carry parts for the 230s. I had it flying the same day and flew 8 packs already now. Since this is a dangerous hobby, you gotta go with the name brands. ... show more
