The blackout shade material works exactly as desired - 100% light elimination. Straightforward to install, with only a measuring tape and scissors required to install. The kit includes a small pair of scissors, a marking pen and a short tape measure (which I didn't use), the material and Velcro material. I used a metal tape measure, a sharpie and a 48" level (for the long straight edge) to make measurements and high quality scissors to cut (as they say, measure twice, cut once!). Because of the need to precisely measure and cut, installation isn't "easy", as it is time-consuming if you want it to turn out well. It is not complicated, however. The material is surprisingly thin, but it blocks out the light as desired. The material is held in place by Velcro strips you tape to your window enclosure and material. The kit comes with (8) 1.25" wide x 4" long strips that I cut vertically to better fit my window, and allow for more Velcro attachment. Worked exactly as desired for blocking out the light, and I expect it will block out heat in the summer, as the reverse side is a silver metallic-looking finish that I expect will reflect the sun. ... show more

I really like this set for window privacy screen. For some reason when ordering I thought it was magnetic and it is Not magnetic. I bought this kit for a small window in my work door. The kit includes all the basic necessities. The material is very thin and flimsy, it has a blackout side and the opposite side is a reflective metallic. The material being thin is a benefit b/c it makes it very lightweight and easy for hanging. This material is perfect for an RV and dorm room window. I was able to use the measuring tape and the metallic marker that was used in the kit for the material. There were strips of Velcro to be cut to size preference. The scissors are quality sewing/thread scissors and easily cut the material. The scissors slid along the material and cut like wrapping paper, so I got decent “straight” lines. The velcro material also needs to be cut to size preference, but the scissors are too delicate for cutting through the thick velcro material. I had to grab some bigger and more heavy duty scissors to cut the velcro. The velcro sticks so-so to the delicate material and very easily to the wall. If using the velcro frequently to pull the two pieces apart a person would have to grip the velcro and not just the material or it would rip off. Since the material is so lightweight, I only put three strips on the top of the material so I don't have velcro stickers all over my door, also later I can roll the material up easily to see through my window. I measured at least an extra inch for all sides to make sure I had enough coverage. Door window coverings are recommend for safety reasons, especially in a school setting, in case there is an active sho*ter scenario. I got this to use in my guest room for a family member who will need a quiet space post surgery. Hopefully this will significantly darken the room which faces the sun. I’d like that this kit comes with scissors and a ruler, and what looks like an abundance of Velcro. My only concern is sticking this Velcro directly onto my window frame, as it may not come fully off (let alone a hotel room when traveling, as advertised). Will have to see how to firmly attach this without permanently damaging the window when the time comes. ... show more

    • Great for the RV

Our 20ft Class B (large van) RV, as most RV's do, came with heavy magnetic "shades" that we can easily attach to the inside of the front windshield, and front door windows. The back and side windows have pull down shades. That essentially gives us all the privacy we need when parked in a crowded campground. However, those front magnetically attached shades take up a LOT of room stored in the back of the already cramped rear cargo area. It also does take a few minutes to unpack and drag them to the front to install. Then in the morning do the reverse. There has to be a better way. There is, and this is it! We simply attached Velcro stickers to the inside ceiling right behind the front seats. We cut these blackout shades to size and now it takes literally one minute to unfold them and attach them to the Velcro. We now leave those large heavy shades in the garage when we take off on trips. This was a great solution. I give this five full stars and recommend for those in similar situations. ... show more

    • Effective but emphasis on temporary!

I've got a studio in my basement that I film in for a YouTube channel. It has this big ugly window that I needed to cover to control the light on the scene and get rid of the eyesore that is a window well casing. This kit worked a treat for this use. I rarely need access to that window, so undoing some hook and loop to get the shade off is easy. I wouldn't put this kit on a window that you're going to be frequently messing with. Like, you can't treat this kit like regular shades that you can open every morning and close every night. I feel this is much more a temporary solution, or for use only where you have a situation like I did. Travel too, that might be another good use. Point being, the shades blackout 100% as advertised, but they're too inconvenient as a daily touch point. On a side note, they asked for me to rate "remote control". 1 star for that - these do not have any remote control, or tech functionality for that matter... ... show more
