  • This replaced the 1st gen ICON I have
The elastic on my old 1st GEN ICON loss of its elasticity, that is the only reason I replaced it. This thing is super bright and has a long battery life. you can choose if you want the light to be spread out so you can see what is right around you, or you can choose for a long narrow beam that will light things over a football field away. ... show more

  • No brighter than my 350 lumen headlamps
Good addition to my black Diamond collection. However it’s no brighter than my 350 lumen. Irritating as it’s $99.00. I’ll use it on a backpacking trip to see if the battery lasts longer than 2hrs.

  • Very good light ... and now not so good
This is my 2nd Black Diamond Headlight, my first is 7 years old and still working. Everything's great except that suddenly it doesn't like rechargeable batteries, no matter how many times I change the batteries (new, old batteries) it keeps indicating that the battery is low. FYI I've been using rechargeable batteries with headlights and other equipment for years without issues. UPDATE: ... the outdoor season is not even over yet and this model is giving more grief. In addition to above issue it now chews up regular high-end batteries in less than two night of light usage ... this means that this light is useless to me ... I'm not sure if this has to do with the fact that I'm using the supplied extension cable, but regardless this should not happen. Another negative side the designers have messed up, although this is a night light, i.e. one uses it in the dark ... it's not dark use friendly, and with me changing out batteries all the time ... I have to fiddle with it in the dark regularly ... so now the lid can be put on the wrong way too easily and that caused the flimsy plastic tab that holds the lid lever to crack (it still holds for now) there are no embossed markings for the lid position and neither for battery directions ... this is surprising oversight from an experienced light manufacturer. Also, the battery compartment should have been supplied with some sort of belt clip ... truly silly mistake. I checked my history and I've bought 6 lights from this manufacturer over the years ... all have worked well except for this last one and it's supposed to be the flagship model, so I guess this will be the last time I buy Black Diamond. ... show more

  • Most liked Expensive RGB HeadLamp
I've had expensive headlamps: BD ICON 100 (white & red, 100 lumens, still working) NiteCore HC90 RGB (18650 rechargeable, 2-920 lumens, works well, except USB port gasket falls off and gets lost, even tho they ship with 2 gaskets) Lumentac RGB ($25, bright 200 lumens, intensity not adjustable, rechargable 18650, great product) This product, BD Icon 700 with Lithium battery, $155. This headlamp does it all, and has better head weight distribution than the NiteCore HC90, and finally a decent all purpose adjustable headstrap. The RGB Lamps are brighter than HC90. Touching the right side of the housing instantly jumps whatever lamp you are in to high intensity. Each lamp has intensity control. Strobe is available in each lamp. The CRI lamp is very wide beam, suitable for taking pictures at night, or doing some fill flash. Very long battery life on low settings. The 5.2 Ahr rechargable Lithium battery can be put on headstrap in back of head, or relocated to pocket with cord extension supplied. RECOMMENDATION Buy this headlamp. Best I know of, in all departments. ... show more

  • Decent flood light for short distances but not for distance viewing
I purchased this light because I was tired of buying the $25 headlamps every year. I thought maybe this one would be a little more sturdy and last longer and I thought it would be pretty bright based on other reviews. I also liked that there were different colors available to use for different situations (blue, red and green). Based on my first few uses, I believe it is a pretty sturdy light. However, the controlls are somewhat complex. I can never remember what to do to change it from one setting to another. There are three different "touch" switches and they all do something different depending on the number and length of touches. Also, it is really not that bright. This us more of a flood light. You can't adjust the beam and focus on a specific area. My last $25 light was pretty big and bulky but you could focus the beam on a small area 50+ yards away. This one just lights up the general vicinity you point it in for about 10-20 feet. The other thing that attracted me to this light is that it uses AA batteries. If you're off the grid you don't have anywhere to charge a rechargeable light. With this one just bring extra batteries. I've used this several times and am still on the first set so battery life seems to be pretty good. My biggest disappointment is the lack of brightness. It lights up your immediate vicinity pretty well but nothing in the distance. Not sure it's worth the price point. I would've returned but missed the return window due to travel. It has its good points but I think I'll also be buying another cheap light that has the focal distance I liked in my prior light. ... show more

  • 5 star headlamp with a 1/2 star battery box.
Love the functionality of the Icon 700, the battery life is as good as one can ask for... It’s just too bad the battery box was horribly designed. I didn’t have the power cord perfectly lined up (looks as if it’s perfectly aligned, as the cord doesn’t really move) so when I turned the lid lock the whole thing pulled up and broke the thin plastic strips that the tabs lock into. I found a better than new solution by wrapping thin strips of some good athletic tape then brushing super glue on the corners and the pressure points. Same concept as fiberglass. The only other thing worth mentioning is the spot/flood (full power) is more of a flood than spot, slightly lacking distance looking across a canyon still pretty good though. It will blind you while wearing it on full power. If the battery box was built like the rest of the lamp it would be five stars without doubt. The lid still fit tightly with the tabs broken until I fixed it a few days later. ... show more
