  • Excellent pump for the price. Easy to install and very quiet
Size: 2 HP
My brand name single speed pool pump failed for a second time. In the last 15 years I had to replace it twice and pay a pool company to install it. This time I decided to get the Black + Decker 2 HP variable speed pump based on the reviews, and I installed it myself. I was a little hesitant to install it but reading the reviews and watching some online videos I gave it a try. To my surprise it was easier than I expected. I spent more time redoing the PVC connections since I have very little room to install it between my pool water heater, the filter, the inlet valves and all the plumbing. Once I completed the installation, I turn it on, and it completed priming fairly quick, faster than my previous 2.2 HP brand name pump. Also, it was noticeable less noisy when running at full speed, 3,450 rpm when compared to my previous two single speed pumps. Then I tried the four different preset speeds and it is super quiet, I can even tell is running when I am by the pool, about 15 feet away from the pump. I am running the factory preset default schedule and I will try it for a week or two to see the results and I will be tracking my power consumption. I read you can reduce the power consumption up to 80% when compared to a single speed pump. I will be extremely surprised if that is the case. I will be very happy to see a 40 to 50% less power consumption to keep my 16,000 gallon swimming pool clean. I will report back when I get actual power consumption readings after a couple of weeks. In summary this pump is great, and I hope will last longer than my previous brand name pumps that would cost me about 50% more for a single speed, and almost double for a variable speed compared to the Black + Decker. ... show more

  • So Far So Good
Size: 3 HP
Received pump this morning was well packed and in good shape. Installed with minimal issues. The electric and plumbing aligned perfectly. Had a fair amount of plumbing work to do but that is not the fault of pump but previous install. This replaced a Pentair intelliflo vsr vs that repair part cost almost as much as this pump. The new Pentair is about $2500 and a DIY as myself would not be able to get Pentair warranty unless installed by pool company. Have the Pentair intellitouch panel and heard that it can be integrated with an adapter but probably wont go that route. Will update if issues occur. It is a quiet pump. ... show more

  • Very Pleasantly Surprised
Size: 2 HP
So it has been 11 months since I purchased and installed this pool pump and I intentionally waited this long in order to give a review because I've found that many products seem to work well initially but after a couple of months falter, so I wanted to give some time to see this product fail. So, this is my third pool pump adventure and on my last "go around, I tried just replacing the motor" which was a pain in the ass; so this may actually be considered my fourth pool pump ordeal. Prior to this B&D purchase, I must say I was a main-streamer and I purchased Hayward or Pentair products. So, this purchase was really based upon reading some reviews and the warranty period. Every other pool pump seemed to come with either a one or two year warranty and my purchases always seem to fail a year after the warranty ends. This product comes with a 5 year warranty and that peaked my interest. So I took a bite and purchased the 2 hp version for my 24k gallon pool. Installation was a little more tricky because the B&D has a slightly lower profile than the bigger Hayward 2.0 that I was replacing. So repiping was a bitch because the original pool installers didn't give me any excess 2" pipe to work with, so I had to get out the saw and glue and repipe and move things around a bit more than I wanted. So, now it's installed and the thing does move some water and it's multi-speed and programmable and it's well worth the time to watch a YouTube video on how to program it, because you don't need your pool pump running 24/7, especially at 3,000 rpm. So, I set mine to run high rpm's at start up at 6am for a couple of hours, then slower at the second setting, then slower again at the third and slower then at the fourth setting and then it shuts down for the night and we start the process all over in the morning. You can also set it manually if you anticipate a heavy swimmer load in the pool that day. The best part about this pump is how quiet it is. At high rpm's it's probably 50% quieter than my old Hayward 2.0. At the lower rpm's you can't really hear it running and my old Hayward was one speed wonder, so it was either on or off. Lastly, I was a guy that went for the higher brands when it came to power and garden tools and I always regarded B&D products to be for the bargain end tools, but now I've changed my mind because so far when they agreed to put their money and name on this product, it has worked. Hope these comments help. ... show more
