Frequently asked questions

To set the time on your BLACK+DECKER digital microwave, first make sure the oven is in standby mode. Press the 'Clock' button and then use the number pad to input the current time. You might need to press 'Clock' or 'Start' again to confirm the time, depending on your model. The display should then show the time you set.

Yes, the turntable in the microwave can be easily stopped or removed for cleaning. To stop the turntable from rotating, press the turntable on/off button if your model has one. To remove it, simply lift the turntable up. It's recommended to clean it with mild detergent and warm water, dry carefully, and ensure it's correctly positioned back on its track before using.

To activate the child safety lock on your microwave, press and hold the 'Stop' or 'Cancel' button for about 3 seconds. The display usually shows a lock symbol or an 'L' to indicate the lock is active. To deactivate, press and hold the same button for another 3 seconds until the lock symbol disappears. Refer to your specific model's manual as these instructions can vary.

Safe materials for your microwave include microwave-safe plastics, glass, ceramic, and paper products. Avoid using metal objects, aluminum foil, or dishes with metallic paint or trim. Always check for a microwave-safe label on your containers or dishes. If in doubt, you can perform a safety test by microwaving the item by itself for a short time with a cup of water inside the oven as well; if the item heats up, it's not safe to use.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The BLACK+DECKER Digital Microwave Oven garners mixed reviews, highlighting its blend of efficient functionality and sleek design with some operational frustrations. Users have praised the microwave for its modern stainless steel appearance, easy-to-use digital controls, and features like the push-button door and child safety lock. It's noted for fitting well in small spaces and performing key tasks— reheating, defrosting, and cooking—adequately and quietly. However, concerns about the sensitivity of the touch panel, the lightweight nature causing it to slide on countertops, and some models being underpowered are notable.

Pros

  • 🍽️ Sleek stainless steel design
  • 👶 Child safety lock feature for added security
  • 🕒 Efficient and quick heating with various models rated at 700W to 1000W
  • 👂 Relatively quiet operation
  • 📐 Fits well in small spaces, suitable for places like assisted living kitchenettes

Cons

  • ⚠️ Touch panel may not respond well, needing multiple attempts to activate
  • 🚚 Lightweight design can cause the microwave to slide on the countertop
  • 🔋 Some models may be underpowered than advertised
  • ➖ Lacks a reheat button, which might be an inconvenience for some users

Should I Buy It?

The BLACK+DECKER Digital Microwave Oven offers a compelling mix of style, functionality, and compact design, making it a suitable option for small to medium-sized kitchens, office spaces, or dorm rooms. If the highlighted cons, such as the sensitive touch panel or the sliding issue, are minor for you or can be readily fixed, it stands as a solid purchase. Its performance, primarily for routine tasks, and additional features like the child lock, contribute to its appeal. Judge your needs carefully; if you prioritize aesthetics and basic functionality over high-powered performance, this could be a great fit for your kitchen.

  • good item
Size: 0.7 Cu.ft
I really don't like to use microwaves, just in general. However, my kids really like to use warming pillows and those are best warmed up in a microwave. So I bought this, just for occasional warming pillow usage. It is small and fits on the shelf space I have available, which is great. It looks nice. It works well. I'm happy with it. My kids are happy with it. I recommend this. ... show more

  • No issues, works great
Size: 0.9 Cu.ft
This microwave gets daily use and in a Commercial Truck/OTR, so it gets bumped around occasionally but holds up just like my last one - this was a size upgrade from the smaller one (700w) to the (900w) perfect fit and runs fine on inverter though i do use a Voltage Stabilizer via a multi power plug combo set - to keep all the electronic up to snuff ... show more

  • It's a microwave. And it;s at a good price point.
Size: 0.9 Cu.ft
I read several of my go-=to review sites and this one came up as one of the best on each and every one. As I said, it's at a reasonable price, too. I'm not a frequent microwave user. I use it to heat my leftover coffee, to bake sweet potatoes, and to heat milk for lattes. But I had surgery upcoming so needed something so my caregivers could reheat meals I had stocked in the freezer. This one met the criteria and that was that. The one thing I don't really like is the noise that EVERY microwave delivers when you open and shut the door. It's part of the design so the no harmful waves escape and I get that. But at 5:00 am and to hear that slamming door ugh it simply irritates me. There was a "QUIET" microwave cited on many of the review sites and it was a bit more money. AS I said, I only really needed it to reheat meals so I didn't;t care. But now I wish I had spent the extra whatever dollars to have one that just wasn't as loud. I'm sure it's still noisy for none of these can be silent, but oh well. That's my burden. You can choose your only.:) Anyway--it's perfectly fine, adjustable power levels, I think I made popcorn in it once. All things it's supposed to do and it does them really well. It's easy to keep clean and the profile is a bit shorter than most so it fits nicely under my overhang shelves. It has super storage area on top very even with no contours or decorative design distractions, so it has given me as much counter space back as it took away and that's a big plus in a small kitchen where I think this model was truly intended to shine. ... show more

  • A Reliable Kitchen Companion
Size: 1.1 Cu.ft
recently picked up the Black and Decker Digital Microwave, and honestly, it’s been a solid addition to my kitchen. It fits well—no annoying bulkiness—and it didn’t cost a fortune, which is nice. This microwave does exactly what you expect: it cooks food! As someone who can be mildly dependent on my microwave during the week, I've been able to reheat everything the last half of my morning coffee to dinner leftovers, and there are no cold spots, which is a relief. The control panel is pretty straightforward, but I did fumble a bit with the "door unlock" button at first. Still, it’s a decent safety feature if you’ve got kids around. It’s also surprisingly quiet; you know, unlike those microwaves that sound like they’re about to take off. Cleaning is easy, too—a quick wipe down and you’re done. Overall, if you’re in the market for a reliable, budget-friendly microwave that actually gets the job done, this one’s worth considering. ... show more

  • Love this microwave
Size: 1.1 Cu.ft
Before I bought this, we were using a microwave my mom gave us five years ago. It was old even then—she'd bought it at a garage sale—but it worked, so we never upgraded. When that thing finally kicked the bucket a month ago, we were forced to buy a new one. We picked this one because of it's price and size (it needed to fit on our microwave stand). This thing is awesome! My dinner plates actually fit inside it and it takes much less time to heat things than my old microwave. It's easier to clean, too, and I like all of its extra features. My family is wondering why we didn't upgrade sooner. All that time wasted, watching the seconds tick down! Oh well. We have it now. If I had to gripe, the door button doesn't feel very sturdy. I feel like it's going to be the first thing to break. We've had it a few months now, though, and it hasn't given out yet. ... show more

  • Decent but flaws for my liking
Size: 0.7 Cu.ft
We have a small counter space for a microwave so it's hard to find a decent one. I researched a lot and thought this one was "it." Well, it will work OK, but my main problem is the beeping is ANNOYING and you CANNOT stop it by opening the door! And it beeps WAY too many times! The other thing I don't love (although not a deal breaker) is that it doesn't beep to remind you something was left in the microwave. We temporarily were using a cheap Walmart one (was bought for college use). I actually liked that one's features BETTER! This one looks nicer with the stainless steal trim. I'm trying to adjust to it, but you can't even cover the noise since it appears to come from inside the microwave. It does slide easily as others stated. We have a small block at the back on the button side which usually keeps it in place. But it is worse than the cheapy one for sliding (will be getting rubber grips/pads to help). Decent price, decent microwave. Does basics we need it for (I do like the 30 second start button and quick start minute ones). Just not loving beeping (the worse offense!), lack of reminder, and sliding. ... show more

  • Love the SILENCE! Used by 20
Size: 0.9 Cu.ft
This is a great microwave for smaller spaces. About 20+ people use it daily for lunch and beverage warm-ups, and it is located immediately adjacent to about 5 people's cubicles. We really appreciate what isn't there-constant beeps and alarms! It's great that this unit can be silenced, so people near it don't have to listen to dings and beeps all day. It is plenty big enough to handle everything we need, including full-size plates, frozen dinners, and tall items. So far no one has mentioned that they couldn't fit anything in it. I really like the touch screen. With one touch, I get a 30-second warm-up; two quick pokes gives me a minute, etc. There is no need to push "start" or any other buttons to initiate immediate cooking. Its ease of use has made me impatient with the microwave I have at home, with its unnecessary start button. It's also easy to clean, with smooth walls that are simple to wipe down. It's been the perfect microwave for our refreshment zone. ... show more
