I installed this in a work shed. Installation was easy and this makes it bearable on those 100°+ days. My shed is 100 sf and in full sun. If it’s 100° out the shed can get down to about 80°. This is the smallest AC with a 14,500BTU and it still uses 115volt. Outstanding! Anyone saying that this unit does anything but make massive amounts of cool air, is just silly. Truly thinking about buying another just to have backup. Every time I find a great product they quit making it. Odds are good that I will buy another. Even if you do not need 14,500BTU, if it will fit your window or hole buy it!!!!! It is NOT noisy at all. Who cares that the remote does not come with batteries. It is light for a unit that produces 14,500BTU with 115volt; that is all that needs to be said about this AMAZING unit. Normally I wait a bit longer to leave a review, just in case. This is working so well I had to tell everyone. My house is COLD, really cold and I love it cold. Did I mention it has 14,500BTU at 115volt? I can't believe it either. ... show more

First the good news. This air conditioner works great. We didn't want to spend the extra money for an 8000 BTU for our 250 square foot room, and we read that the 5000 BTU unit would only cool a room up to 150 square feet. Wrong. This unit totally did the job. It was 97 degrees outside today, and were totally cool in our air-conditioned room. The only reason I took off one star is that I found the installation instructions too hard to follow. I ended up installing the unit based on remembered experience from the past, and from current observation. ... show more

It was easy to install with a helper to lift it into the window. It is quiet and quickly cools 500 sq ft. I use a standing floor fan that is 3.5 feet above the floor and a ceiling fan to move the cooled air around. This thing is so powerful it would be more than adequate for a one bedroom apartment. The secret is to have another fan in the room to help disperse the cool and dehumidified air this unit puts out. Make sure you install it correctly with the outside portion sloping down as shown in the directions. My 1600 sq ft house has a central system but this helps reduce the load on that system. The good: AC unit was delivered in a timely manner and the delivery person went the extra mile and brought it up 2 flights of stairs so that it was on my doorstep when I got home. Also I got a good price on it. It sells on Amazon, at this time, for about $70 more. And my wife and I like the Black and Decker brand. In the past she lived close to a refurbishing factory in the south and spoke highly of it and bought many products of theirs with no problems. The bad: Right out of the box there was an oily film on the bottom left hand side that I noticed when I was installing the unit in the window. Thought maybe it was me sweating at first but after it was all installed and I hit the power button it blew warm air. I let it run for about 15 minutes while I read the troubleshooting guide. Took the filter out and made sure the temp sensor wasn't too close to the condenser as per the manual. Still no cold air. Now I'm guessing the oily film has to do with a leak and the refrigerant is gone. The Ugly: I think the Amazon return process is very easy, and they are gonna pick it up for free from my home. What is gonna be ugly is packing this 70lb bad bitch up in it's original box sturdy enough to get it down two flights of stairs and making it proper for the delivery person. I'm not sure when or where the damage happened i.e quality control, delivery process, whatever. It just sucks that it was all a waste of time for everybody during the whole process. So there is nothing left to do but try it again with a Frigidaire and hope for the best this time. Wicked Pissah Bub!!! ... show more

This little AC is a gama Changer for my overheated shop. It faces west and gets full sun all day making it very hot inside. This AC had the shop nice and cool after about an hr and it wasn't on coldest setting. I built a support shelf.for the outside part of the AC in the shop the AC is cooling. Having small windows in my house we had to find an air conditioner with a higher BTU but small body. This fit perfectly and it cools extremely well. This is the best money I've spent in a very long time!! Tired of being hot?? This small ac will get you cool and keep you cool. After having it a month now I did not see a big increase on my power bill either. It's a win win! Good price,fits smaller windows, works great! I highly recommend.
