While the spikes are plastic, they are very sharp and I don't think any animals or birds would want to step on these spikes. I mount these on plank woods so they stay upright and in-place then place the plank wood behind my shed or under the deck where many animals to pass through or dig under. These do pretty good job stopping them from entering without harming them (well, they will get hurt if they try to step over it..) ... show more
