  • Perfect pizza even in sun-freezing temperatures
The media could not be loaded. I bought this a a Christmas gift for my husband. The funniest thing was that he almost bought a more expensive brand for me and decided against the expenditure. So glad my kids and I researched and found the Big Horn. We watched some videos on YouTube and wound up with perfect results first time. Some tips: 1. Get some petroleum free fire starters to put with the pellets- especially in cold temperatures. Even a butane torch had trouble lighting the pellets in 15° Fahrenheit so the starters were key. 2. As mentioned above, use a torch to light the pellets. 3. Keep the door open until you see smoke port out of the chimney. Opening the hopper hatch helps with this airflow as well. Once there is smoke coming out of the chimney, close the door and hatch. 4. Feed the hopper with one light scoop of pellets every 5 minutes or so. Try to keep pellets distributed (I would give a little toss to them so they would go to the front if the back of pile was too high). 5. Once there is fire coming out of the chimney, the oven should be hot enough to use. 6. Use coarsely ground corn meal to act as ball bearings to slide the pizza off the peel. 7. Put door on after pizza is in. Check on your pizza after about a minute and give it a half turn or wherever it still needs to darken. Resume cooking but check back in 20-30 seconds. These cook super fast. 8. Add a scoop of pellets after each pizza so they catch fire and are ready for the next one. We put ours in about a minute or 2 apart. ENJOY! We did a test run of a crust prior to making our first pizza. It was fabulous and we used a pizza crust mix from a grocery store. The key is to mix it and put it in refrigerator overnight. Now you’ll be the envy of the neighborhood or tailgate. ... show more

  • Amazing Wood fired Pizza
I have been looking for a wood fired pizza oven for a while. My friends bought Ooni which is a great brand in itself but very pricey. I wanted something that is easy to use and does the job right. Tried this one from Big Horn. On ease of use, I give it 5 out of 5. Simply put the wooden pallets, light them up with a butane torch and of it goes, it fires up quickly. Keep feeding the pallets to keep the heat consistent. Very easy to use. Once the oven is hot enough (7 to 8 mins after you see the flame coming through the chimney) it takes about 90 seconds for the pizza to get done just right. Product was delivered with missing door handle. I called the customer service and it was dispatched and delivered in less than 3 days. Customer service is amazing. If you are looking for a fun and easy to use wood fired pizza over at a reasonable price with great quality, this is the one to go with. ... show more

  • Makes a very tasty pizza
Seems to be equal quality as much more expensive brands. It does take some time to learn the tricks to getting it to cook well but when you do it's very good. If I had to do it over I might give a little more thought to a propane unit as the wood pellets don't really impart a smoky flavor to the pizza but I'm happy with this one. ... show more

  • It works, but can not recommend
3 star because its small. It's a micro oven. Bought this oven for Neapolitan style pizza, found out the hard way that you can bake only up to 10 inch pizza and that is tight too. The "exhaust", where the fire coms out, is diagonally over the stone by inch or so, so when my pizza start to rise it hits the "exhaust" wall and burn. Its a design flaw so you pizza must be at the most 10" in diameter. Kind of hard to explain, did my best. Hard to keep temp high. I use a combination of charcoal and pine wood, Got almost 400c in 15 min. Wood compartment is small so you are busy feeding the micro oven. when the door is taken out to rotate the pizza the temp drops drastically. Decent results. Didn't try to cook anything els but pizza. Could be useful for other cooking, very easy to take anywhere, built well. Bought this when it cost 160$ now its much more, not sure its worth it! ... show more

  • Some Learning Curve
I'm happy with the purchase, but can see modifying this for better results. Don't keep the door open at all if you're looking for high heat. Updated: After many sessions with this, I can say it’s high maintenance and still has a steep learning curve. I’m seriously considering a better insulated multi fuel oven as a replacement. I have added an analog thermometer to the door, found briquets with just small amounts of pellets hold steadier heat, found a propane torch is best for hot light off, and a battery powered blower is ideal (basically mandatory) for keeping the heat hotter and more even. It’s quite a lot of work for 2-3 pizzas, and just requires tons of attention relative to the very short cooking time once you have it right. ... show more

  • Well built oven!
The media could not be loaded. Received my oven and made a pizza the same day. Very well built, solid oven. Light the pellets, wait 20 minutes, check stone temp and boom! Ovens ready for the pie! Best oven for the price!
