Comparatively, these do not block out near as much light. But these are listed as room darkening curtains, not pure black out curtains. They specifically say they work to a certain percent and darker colors are better for the black out function. I bought 2 different lengths of these curtains for different rooms in my house and I'm definitely happy with my purchase. They're a really nice, soft material and should work well for blackout purposes. The material is definitely thick enough. The only thing I'm not 100% happy with (and this is a personal style opinion) is to me, the holes you put the curtain rod through are too big and more shower curtain style. I would've preferred the style that's one single stitched 'tunnel' for the curtain rod. ... show more
