  • Good tone overall
Color: Natural
I wanted it for use primarily as an acoustic instrument, but the pickup / EQ is a great feature. The pickup works well but you need to take the battery out when not using it The string valleys in the nut are sloppy and on mine the E string hits the frets until you the to the third fret, the "G". I'm going to fill it in with some epoxy and recut the valley. I can do that by just loosening the string. For under $100, I'm not complaining and ... show more

  • Not for nitpickers but a solid useful value.
Color: Black
I'm a professional guitarist with a home recording studio who often finds that my self-recorded songs could use some additional bottom end, especially when I record solo demos to present to my cello partner. Of course, once my partner and I agree that a piece is best played as a duo, the cello takes care of the bottom. However, I sometimes record other musicians and produce their demo tracks. Again, while I usually serve as the session guitarist / fretted instrument sideman for these recordings, I have often thought I should have a bass guitar to round out my recording arsenal and add some clear bottom to these home recordings. I've been working on a project where that was exactly the case. I was going to borrow a bass from a student when I found this guitar. I figured for less than $100 I can experiment a bit by running the bass directly through the board and get some sonic feedback as to whether a bass addition works on a recording or not without breaking the bank. Either way, I figured it MIGHT be a handy piece of recording "equipment". Boy, was I right! For this specific purpose this bass guitar fits that bill perfectly! Oh sure, the fit and finish is not perfect and it's unplugged tone is not great and is certainly not loud enough. But, recording directly through a board sounds fantastic. I am both shocked and pleased. To be clear, I am NOT a bass player and thus I would never use this thing as a piece of performance gear. And if I were a bass player, I'd probably looking for other options. But, as said, as a piece of recording gear this instrument would be hard to beat for the price. With these specific caveats, buy with confidence. UPDATE: Continuing to experiment with this bass in a "direct to recording board" way, I notice a significant hum. I put a Baggs Venue in the chain so that I could use a balanced XLR into the board and the hum remains. I think it's a grounding issue. I can greatly reduce the hum by knocking back the gain quite a bit and then restoring the volume in post. I'll keep updating as I experiment further. ... show more

  • For a hundred bucks, not bad at all
Color: Blue
Let's get this out of the way first: it's a $100 dollar guitar. Anyone who is expecting to get a Fender or Martin quality guitar for a Benjamin is living in a foolish fantasy world. I bought mine because I wanted something I could just sit on the couch downstairs and noodle/practice with it while watching tv and such. I have two small children. They like my basses. I was always nervous bringing my nice basses down, not to mention I was picking up some bad habits playing them without an amp. Enter this instrument. It's cheap enough that I don't care if one of the boys scratches it accidentally with one of their toys or the dog jumps up or what have you. If it gets destroyed, I'm out a hundred bucks instead of a thousand. It would still be bad, mind you, but not nearly as much. That being said, for what it is, it is a fantastic little acoustic bass. As to the guitar itself: The sound is good. The weight and feel is good. The finish is surprisingly nice. Finger board feels fine. The wood is a bit dry but some board oil when I change the strings and we're golden. Speaking of strings: if there was a truly weak part, it's the strings that come with it. Granted, most companies aren't going to ship top notch strings with their guitar from the factory. To keep the price point, these are probably lowest end, knockoff of a knockoff of a knockoff strings. You're going to want to replace these the moment you get it. Once you, the sound will drastically improve. TL;DR: it's a surprisingly good guitar for the price. If you want a better one, spend more. ... show more

  • Change strings
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. Good bass but the input to the amp did not work. I had to change to string it to sound a lil better but other than that its a good starter bass

I recently acquired this electroacoustic bass in a beautiful blue color, and I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality, especially considering the reasonable price. The sound it produces is truly impressive, making it a great addition to my collection.
