My previous white Bemis toilet seat was 18+ years old and had started to discolor. I went to my local hardware store and purchased another brand since they didn’t carry Bemis). Although it seemed ok, it just never felt secure or tight and would shift slightly. It was flimsy so I wouldn’t dare sit on it with the lid down. Another annoying thing was I use lid covers and the back of the cover was too thick so my lid cover wouldn’t fit/stay on. After only a month, the plastic hinge on one side of the seat broke off. I decided to shop Amazon for another Bemis. There were so many choices. Found this one for just over $20 and figured I’d try it out. It is almost identical to my original! I had it installed in just a couple minutes and my lid cover fits perfectly! The seat is secure and doesn’t shift around. It’s sturdy enough to sit on with the seat down and no fear of it bending or breaking. I would highly recommend this for the cost and quality. ... show more

This well-made toilet seat has been a lifesaver during my recent medical condition. It is comfortable for extended use. I appreciate the innovative attachment system allows for easy switching to a standard seat (with the system) whenever I'm ready. While the wide design is not ideal for me, it's a common issue I experience with most toilet seats. It is a downside, but you will probably be fine unless this is a common problem. The problem probably cost this item about half a star. On the otherhand, the quality has been excellent so far, exceeding what I've read in some reviews. It seems much more sanitary than the white-painted wood seat that came with the apartment. That seat discolored and was very affected by even basic cleaning chemicals. It was only 3 years old. That seat was also a Bemis. When replacing it, I took the chance on buying the same brand for this plastic seat because of the good reviews and the price, plus I trust it that it would fit properly. The factory packaging was very good, and it took just a minute to install. But, as soon as sitting down on the lid the first time to tie my shoes, the lid bends inward with my weight! And I am not a big person. We will have to see if this seat lasts and judging from the first day experience, it might not be long. I'll probably need to choose a different brand. ... show more
