Top Amazon Reviews

  • I LOVE HOW THIS FITS! EXCELLENT QUALITY & SO, SO WARM.
I always read reviews, but rarely write one. I'm long overdue! This review is about the original ($69?) version, not the new, $79 "2016," option. Tight now there's an option between the two. So here goes: First, I'm super happy with my purchase. It is such a good price, and the quality is so outstanding that I actually just ordered another one, in black. (I already have the army green.) SIZE: First off, I'm 5"3, 117 lbs. I wear a 34C and got it in an XS. I'm pretty curvy, but petite in frame. The XS fits my arm length and shoulder width perfectly. I have more of an apple shape, yet it fits my waist and bum perfectly. In the chest area the XS feels a little snug if I layer a light turtleneck sweater AND a long sleeve shirt at the same time. It's almost too snug, but not really, as you can see from the pictures. Without layers it fits fine, and wont be a problem even if I gain another 5-7 pounds. Because I'm regaining some weight I lost, I ordered my 2nd one in an S AND also XS just to see how the fit difference is around the chest. I think the S could fit better (I'll be returning one, thanks to Amazon's awesome return policy!) Either way, this coat is a slim fit- meaning its a close cut around the body, even if you're a large. I like that it's a slim fit because it stays close to the body and the cold air stays out. I noticed that the 2016 version seems less fitted at the very bottom, like an A shape. No thanks! If you're my height and weight, but not petite framed in the shoulders or arm length, or if you're bigger in the chest, go with the size S. WARMTH: I live in Portland, OR. It's always raining, or raining and gusty. It can get pretty cold around Dec. (20 -30'S at night, plus rain. Being cold AND wet is awful.) This coat is replacing a lost Eddie Bauer one thst cost $290 eight years ago. EB doesn't make that one anymore, and the EB 800-fill replacement I recently bought, though super cute, is not nearly as warm as this. I run really cold, so having a super dependable, warm, dry coat is a priority. This coat didn't have any problems with the fill being displaced (more fill in some parts than others.) WASHING: You can machine wash it. I do suggest washing it twice in hot water with good detergent. The feathers have a slight odor (which is completely gone now- the Eddie Bauer one had the same thing- unless it's premium white goose down, it probably will). When you dry it, you have to get it REALLY dry or the feathers WILL clump up. That's with all down coats and comforters though. If you have a tennis ball throw it in the dryer and it'll help the feathers fluff up. QUALITY: I love that it loses ZERO feathers. I love the hood- you dont have to wear a scarf if you pin it closed- even if it's really cold, rainy and gusty out. I actually sewed a button on it to keep it closed and it works great. The fur trim is removeable (fake fur- YES! ) Mine was really nice looking actually. The double zipper on mine is all black, and really durable. I didn't have problems with the pockets pulling on the back, and I like their placement. Sometimes they're made for longer arms and the fit is uncomfortable to walk in. I haven't lost any fur from the trim, and actually mine was so nice that I was concerned people would think I was wearing real fur. Mostly I dont wear it because it's extra bulk. DURABILITY: We did get caught in a downpour, and the coat stayed completely dry, as did I. The water just rolled off it. Can't say that for the new Eddie Bauer one, which cost over $200 and was completely soaked through in a similar downpour. Overall I'm thrilled with this coat. I'll try to update on the size S vs XS for my weight, size and frame. The pictures are of the XS on my 5"3 117 lb frame, with a long sleeve shirt and turtleneck sweater underneath. It looks fine. The neck I buttoned closed, but it doesnt come with the button- I sewed it on so I don't have to bother with a scarf. Pulled up it's plenty warm around the ears. ... show more

UPDATE 11/1/18: This coat held up well last winter. I lived in a town center and walked everywhere to run errands--in wind, rain, sleet, fire and locusts. As it's starting to get chilly again, I've unpacked the coat and am looking forward to wearing it again this winter. Details below. ***** 12/14/17: I was looking for a longer down coat under $100 that is actually fitted and doesn't make me look like a marshmallow. I ordered a Small. My stats: Age: 30s | Height: 5’ 3” | Weight: 135lbs | Bra size: 34D | Waist: 29” | Hips: 39” | Shape: lean pear Quality - standard, good. No rips in the lining, snaps & zippers all worked well. Hood came slightly matted (top, center) where it was folded in half, but I expect it will fluff out with time. Warmth - lightweight as expected (after reading the reviews), but definitely warm enough (I live in the US mid-atlantic region). I have room to layer when the weather is especially cold. But it's NOT puffy! Sizing - THIS BRAND IMPROVED THEIR SIZING FOR 2018, and the Small that I ordered fits as expected. The length covers my butt. The shapely cut of the coat itself is awesome, and clearly the majority of buyers love this fit. If I'm being hyper critical, I wish it hugged my upper body a little more...but keep in mind I am much leaner up top than I am around the hips and butt, and with a coat I would rather deal with a tiny bit of room up top than have it too snug around my butt that I can't even sit down. I deal with this in clothing and outerwear all the time, so this is a me issue. That said, this is one of the better fitting down coats I've worn, so I'm really happy with it. Features - I wish the front two pockets were deeper and had the down fill, but it's not a deal breaker. Hood is nice and deep. As you can see in one of my photos, the fur can snap on and off. Hope my review helps you! ... show more

  • Very warm
Size: XX-Large Color: Beige
5'5 and 1/2, 175lbs, 27 inch waist, 45 inch hips, 39 inch chest. Got this coat in XL. I need this jack to keep me warm for NYC times Square on New years eve. The fit: XL is a little too big on me but I'm keeping it to allow for sweater space (honestly this coat is so warm of you aren't going to be exposed to cold weather for hours like I am, you may not need all the layers bc the coat is nice and cozy on it's own). I'm also keeping the XL to fit over pockets (remember why I got this coat) If it wasn't for that, I'd definitely size down to a LG or maybe even medium. bc I don't want a tight fit. but I I have tested the jacket out in the Detroit and Baltimore cold and it is a dream! It's light but very warm. The pocket space is ok but not super super deep and it's probably enough for what most ppl need and expect. The furry hood snaps off easily at the very end but there's an easy fix for that and if you want, you can just keep keep it off all together. The hood is nice and big and will comfortably fit around hats/hoodies/beanies. The coat ends mid thigh and comfortable when I sit down. The zipper is doubled and pulls about where my chin is. The cream color is cute, classy and exactly as pictured. I love ecentuating my waist and functuanlly warm coats tend to be big, bulky and ugly. They hide the female shape so this coat appeals to many of us. The only complaint I have is there aren't snaps in the back to bring the waist in as you see in the picture. Maybe that's a design for smaller sizes, I don't know. ... show more
