  • A complete system makes home Brewing easier, and it's great FUN!
Style Name: BeerDroid
I have been considering getting into home brewing for some time, but I am not necessarily enamored with the "chemistry" or the thought of massively customizing my beer, to start out with anyway. The BrewArt system caught my eye because it is more of a self contained appliance that makes the brewing process more approachable and when connected to WiFi it actually updates me on the process of my brew - how cool is that! SETUP: Setup was pretty easy overall, pull the unit out of the box and set on a counter top. It really is convenient to have a sink very close, so I setup my BeerDroid in our kitchen near the sink for my first brew. Longer term, I will be clearing an area near my bar sink, but I don't have a huge bar area and the BeerDroid is a bit larger than I expected - think of it as taking about as much room up on a counter surface as a medium size microwave. I downloaded the App, created an account, and linked my BeerDroid to my WiFi - all pretty straightforward. The display on the BeerDroid gives you some basic feedback about connection to WiFi, what type of Beer you are brewing, elapsed brewing days, etc. My one nitpick about the display is that the backlight cannot be turned off, so it does bathe the room in orange light on really dark nights- turned out OK for our house as it sort of acts as a kitchen night light anyway. I followed the included instructions, and sanitized the unit with the included sanitizing tablet- pretty easy. BREW-TIME: I was now ready to start my very first Brew - the included brew art kit was an american pale ale. This now got my Wife pretty interested! I first added about 10 litres of clean filtered water (not specified in the instructions, but in my opinion good beer should start with good water). We worked together to add the ingredients as specified in the instructions, and found ourselves discussing and brainstorming other flavors and ingredients we could add in the future to tweek the recipe!. Pay attention to the small labels on each pouch that identify what's inside and everything will go pretty smoothly. Close the lid and keep in an area where it wont be disturbed and go about your business - the App will notify you when certain stages are complete, when the BeerDroid is cooling/heating - even shows temp control graph, which will come in handy if I start to customize our brews. There is a viewing window on the BeerDroid housing that allows you to see inside, and there is a light that will illuminate the inside so you can check on the status of your brew - that was cool to see it gradually look like golden beer in there, the kids got into that as well. TRANSFER TO KEGS: You can choose to bottle directly from the BeerDroid with a bottling kit and primer, but I chose to go with the full BrewArt system and also purchased the BeerFlo beer dispenser- which I also reviewed. I set my BeerDroid to "READY TO KEG" mode and it automatically changed the temperature to be ready for kegging. The BeerFlo accepts small kegs, which are very well thought out overall - the kegs come with disposable liners and easy clean quick connect fittings and lines. After sanitizing everything with another included sanitizing tablet, I assembled the components for both of the kegs. I could see how Kegging could be messy if you are not careful. With a little help from my wife, we were able to successfully transfer all of the brew to the two kegs, with only a few drops spilling on to the kitchen floor. I will definitely be purchasing the optional keg holder bracket for my next brew. Before closing up my Keg, I NEARLY forgot to add the sucrose (primer)! I then set the Kegs aside on the included storage rings and waited nearly two weeks for the carbonation stage to complete. This is really where my one nit-pick comes into play - which can be easily remedied. I used the app throughout the brewing process, and I would have liked to continue sing it to track elapsed carbonation time, so that I know when I can put my keg into the Beer Flo dispenser. I simply set a Google reminder, but it would have been great to integrate this into the app as well. Clean up of the BeerDroid was pretty easy after brewing, I used my sink sprayer to clean out the BeerDroid, popped out the tap and cleaned that up- done. Pretty straightforward and easy. I definitely would say DO NOT use any sort of abrasive pad or sponge to clean the inside of the BeerDroid - it is a smooth and shiny plastic surface that wipes clean easily - if you use something abrasive to clean in there, it will leave micro-scratches over time and will make it more difficult to clean. BREWFLO: The BrewFlo is a nice product that completes the system. Beerdroid brews the beer, BrewFlo is the complementing dispenser. The BrewFlo has it's own refrigeration, and a built in compressor fo some sort. The Tap handle is nice overall, and has a good feel to it. The way that the tubing is integrated and the quick disconnects on the mini kegs make this a pretty easy to setup and use unit. It's a good thing they made the tubing components disposable to ensure a clean system. I did have one output tube that was not tightly assembled enough and leaked a bit, so that tube never allowed the system to properly pressurize. The kit came with multiple tubes, so I simply replaced it with another one and I was good to go. The setup is pretty simple. Once you have your beer in mini kegs, you simply open the top and drop in the mini keg. Then, connect the quick fittings to the input and output lines. There are some detailed videos outlining everything yo need to know, but it's really pretty self evident. The only tricky part is getting the output tube fished into that tap- I did not notice at first there is a panel that comes off on the tap that allows you to more easily feed the output tube into the tap. If i had just read the instructions more thoroughly I would have seen that. After you plug in the unit and turn it on, the unit will cool the beer to serving temperature (which you can adjust right on the unit) in about 24 hours, so plan ahead for any gathering or event you may have in which you wish to serve your home brew. You will also periodically hear the compressor kick on for 10-20 seconds. It's not super loud, sort of similar volume to an air filter unit, or dehumidifier. But it does have some random noises, so keep that in mind when you consider placement. There is also a weight sensor inside the unit, and right on the display it tells you how much beer is left in the mini keg - cool! One other cool thing I discovered, the tapper top is remove-able, and can be opened so you can insert your own custom beer insert. This thing has been a hit at several get togethers and events the last few months, and it keeps my beer at the perfect temperature! It is a nice unit that rounds out the Brew Art system, it just makes home brewing beer more enjoyable and eliminates any hassle overall. BEER ME: When all was said and done, I was left with 10 Litres of a nice, HOME MADE american pale ale! The dispenser (BeerFlo) keeps my beer at the perfect Temperature and ready to pour. This process was very FUN and easy with the BrewPrint system, just follow the instructions and use the APP. The big surprise for me is how the whole family got involved in the process, I honestly thought I would be the only one interested in our family - but everyone was pretty curious and involved. It has also been a constant conversation piece when friends are over, which is always fun to show off and share your own home-brew beer with friends! If you have been thinking of getting into home brewing, but it always seemed a bit daunting, like an "insiders only" club for beer-brewing experts only, this is for you. The BeerDroid and it's carefully selected BrewPrints make it easy, fun, and engaging for anyone to get into home brewing. I cant wait to start another Beer.... ... show more

  • This thing is awesome!
Style Name: BeerDroid
I've been looking into home brewing for years but after watching a friend with a home brew kit make their beer I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I wanted something where I didn't have to spend half a day or more making beer! If that is you, this is definitely the system for you! With the exception of sanitizing, it literally takes you 10 minutes or less the get your brew started! I'll break this review down into a few different parts in hopes that it helps push others over the edge to buy this amazing machine! BeerDroid- So, I initially bought my first Beerdroid from the BrewArt website about 5 months ago and have enjoyed it so much that I've purchased another from Amazon after the price dropped from $799 to $499. I can't emphasize enough how good of deal this is! This machine is absolutely amazing! The initial setup of the machine is really quite simple - follow the directions in the instruction manual to download the app and get the system connected to your WiFi. After this, you will need to sanitize your equipment prior to starting a brew. This process takes a total of about 2 hours but is really pretty painless. Each BrewPrint (the beer) comes with a sanitizing tablet. Essentially you fill the machine to within a 1/4" of the top with warm tap water and drop the tablet in and let is sit for an hour then come back and open the tap and let about a half a cup of the liquid out and then close the tap and let it sit for another hour. All these steps are on the 101 videos on the BrewArt site and I cant emphasize enough how important it is to watch these videos multiple times. They are so detailed and will walk you through every bit of the process. I bet I watched each video 10 times. Do not skip any part of the sanitizing process - it is vital to an excellent finished product. I even went as far as getting some StarSan (another sanitizer) to spray down the machine after the initial sanitization to ensure the machine was clean. I've yet to have an infected beer following this process. Once the sanitizing process is complete you are ready to start. You can use tap water but would with caution as everyone's tap water is different and depending on the amount of chlorine in your tap water you may want to purchase campden tables to break down the chlorine. Pretty simple to use - just fill the BeerDroid with 10 liters of water and drop in a couple tablets and carry on with the process. Otherwise, you can purchase spring water pretty cheap at the supermarket and fill to the 10L mark or what the specific BrewPrint requires as far as volume (some higher alcohol content brews require 9L). After this, you drop in the yeast first (very important), followed by the elements and enhancers. You will notice the ingredients do not sink and seem to float on top of the water. This is normal - DO NOT MIX at the risk of contaminating your brew. The yeast will break down the sugars over the next 24-48 hours and creates a vortex within the machine and mixes the ingredients on its own. One you've added all the ingredients (with the exception of the hops and primers which will be used later after the beer has finished fermenting) close the lid and open your app and select the beer you are brewing and hit start brew and just like that you are done. Just sit back and watch your app and and machine do the work as regular updates are provided through the app. Once fermentation is complete you will get a message on your app saying that your brew has finished fermenting and is preparing to keg (needs to be a specific temperature). In the meantime, you will need to sanitize your kegging equipment for 1 hour. The 101 videos will walk you through this but I double sanitize with StarSan and a spray bottle here too. Depending on the BrewPrint, you will add hops directly to the BeerDroid or to the kegs. This is where you will want to watch the BrewArt 101 videos multiple times! The kegging process can be a bit tricky the first time so you will want to be prepared. Particular attention should be paid to ensuring that you don't cross-thread the keg liners and make sure you have assembled everything properly - again the videos should be watched multiple times and be at your side when you are kegging. I also high recommend the purchase of the keg caddy for kegging - it will make your life much easier and can be purchased on the BrewArt website. Once you are ready to keg, you will attach the keg liners to the plastic keg caps being extremely careful not to cross the threads (sometimes a half turn anti-clockwise and then firm pressure downward and clockwise will get them to seat properly). I will warn you this takes multiple attempts at first but after you get a few brews done it gets to be such a simple process. Finally, depending on the BrewPrint you will add the hops and then the primers to the kegs and following the 101 videos which will guide you through the rest of the process. Make sure to double and triple check all of your connections to make sure they are tight and assembled correctly or else you may make a mess on your floor while kegging. Particular attention being made to the connectors on the filling tube as they should snap into place so make sure they are tight. Once your brew is kegged, sit back and wait for a minimum of 2 weeks for you brew to condition. Remember the longer you wait the better your brew will be in both flavor, carbonation, and head retention. I currently shoot for 8 weeks in secondary fermentation -- it makes a huge difference in taste and quality of the beer. Once you have reached your conditioning timer, throw the kegs in the fridge over night to pre-chill (much faster chill time than the BrewFlo). Take the keg out of the fridge put in BrewFlo following the directions on the 101 videos and your all set! Get ready to taste some great homemade craft beers! On a side note, I would also recommend joining the FaceBook group for BrewArt owners. The group there is extremely active and so many guy/gals there to help you start your brewing adventure. I haven't been this excited about beer in a long time and this machine is absolutely amazing. I find myself dreaming up different things to add to my beers to make them unique. Currently conditioning a Peanut Butter Chocolate Porter that I cannot wait to try. The beauty of this machine is that you can alter BrewPrints to your liking or you can stick to the recipe provided. Happy brewing! ... show more

  • wifi does not work
Style Name: BeerDroid
The wifi won't work. Nor by wps or the manual config. Customer support takes just too long to give answers. What was an incredible gift for my 30rd birthday is just making a frustrating day for me. At this moment I won't recommend people to buy it.
