I was a bit iffy about this shelf because of its price, but once received and compared to the others purchased. I can say that it is worth the price! You do not need tools to connect the shelf. It’s pretty sturdy, so my son was able to pile on his laptop, textbook, phone, and even a water bottle without any issues. Everything he needs at night is right at his fingertips. Plus, there's a slot for his charging cable, so no more cables dropping off the side. Just a heads-up, though, you'll want to think about where you put it. I have several items I need to keep on my bedstand. When we moved, we didn't have room for night stands next to the bed. This was the perfect solution as it took only five minutes to put together, is a good quality, and is the perfect height so that I can grab my water bottle, phone, or turn on my morning SAD light easily. The shelf doesn't take up much space, and I haven't had an issue with it moving or becoming loose. We live in an old house with small rooms so i bought this for a child/teen room. It easily holds a cup/water bottle, phone and an alarm clock or we put a box of tissues on it.
