I purchased two of the larger-sized Bed Shelfies (the Bed Shelfie Plus) for my sons who were going away to college for the first time this fall. Both colleges had the majority of their dorm beds lofted, so I wanted the boys to have a place for their alarm clocks and to set their phones or a drinks etc. I selected the Bed Shelfie because, from reading reviews, Bed Shelfie seemed to have the best clamping mechanism and also because Bed Shelfie offered the larger sized shelf, which the others did not. Also, Bed Shelfie seemed to be the original, or at least one of the originals -- the product the others were trying to copy. The Bed Shelfies arrived promptly, were well packed, and looked great and very well made. To be honest, my sons scoffed at me for buying the Bed Shelfies when they first arrived looking much like flat pieces of wood. My sons frequently teased me in the weeks leading up to dropping them off at school that I was buying too much stuff for their dorms -- most of which was stuff they were sure they would never need. They put the Bed Shelfies in that same category. However, upon arriving at the dorm room for my first son, he changed his tune almost immediately. He took one look at that bed and almost instantly began asking where "that bed shelf thing" went. He tore through all the stuff we'd brought until he found it and immediately put it up. It was so simple to install that he did it himself without any guidance or help from his father. He also announced that I had been right and that he had been wrong, and that the bed shelf was the best thing I'd bought! Music to a mother's ears. When we moved his brother in to his own dorm later that week, he was similarly happy with his shelf. My first son had a bed that had no real headboard or footboard and no railings other than the ones holding the springs in place which were more or less bent in an "L" shape. Nevertheless, my son was still able to clamp the Bed Shelfie to that railing and it worked perfectly. The other boy had a headboard and we clamped the shelf to that. It worked perfectly there as well. The large shelf may be a little pricy but I'd say it was worth it. The only thing I did not like was the color choice of the Plus sized shelves. All of the colors seemed geared to girls' rooms. There were no dark colors like black or navy, which is what most boys want. In the end, I went with the natural color, but would have preferred black. I was a bit iffy about this shelf because of its price, but once received and compared to the others purchased. I can say that it is worth the price! You do not need tools to connect the shelf. It’s pretty sturdy, so my son was able to pile on his laptop, textbook, phone, and even a water bottle without any issues. Everything he needs at night is right at his fingertips. Plus, there's a slot for his charging cable, so no more cables dropping off the side. Just a heads-up, though, you'll want to think about where you put it. Since it sticks out from the bed, it could be easy to bump into if you’re not careful. So try to make sure what side of the bed you will be resting your head first. 😭 ... show more

This wood bedside shelf is a smart idea for creating extra storage space next to the bed, especially for the small bedroom that you don’t have enough space for a nightstand. The shelf is made from bamboo and looks nice. The installation is very easy and the result feels strong enough for holding small items. I like the removable feature also. I purchased this for our guest bedroom. So when the bedroom is not in use, I can simply put this shelf into storage to avoid unnecessary dust gathering. The whole piece feels sturdy and should last many years. However, there are 2 small dents on the piece that I received. They are not big dents and I don’t think the dents will impact the usage. Due to these dents, I decided to give a 4-star rating. Hope the manufacturer can improve the QC in the future to make sure situation like mine won’t happen again. ... show more

My kids have normal height beds but these will provide a nightstand for them in the limited space we have for all their stuff.
