For the price (currently under $15 for the size I received), this is an excellent option to block out harsh summer sun. As you can see in my pic, that sun is no joke and the hanging blackout curtains weren't cutting it. I only needed to cover the top portion of my window as I didn't want to block out all of the light. It darkened my room significantly and my sleep has been much less disturbed. This kit came with everything I needed (except scissors). I especially appreciated the measuring tape and storage bag. Even if they only last one summer. I can cut more from what I have leftover for next year. The material reminds me of an umbrella or photography light box. There are some pinholes, mainly where the material was folded. If you don't want light coming around the edges, consider some gaffer or masking tape all around. Simple installation with peel and stick Velcro strips. Shade has silver side to reflect heat. Nice dark side to keep the black out effect well. Cut to size then stick Velcro strips. Velcro strips have strong adhesion, so mock up first as it will stick to most surfaces incredibly well. Shade can be peeled off Velcro strips for adjustments. We got these because our cat LOVES to knock out the blinds. She's knocked a good chunk out to where the sun seeps in waking us up as early as her. But we finally found something to combat this! The setup for the shade was about 15 minutes worth, but very simple since they provide some great supplies alongside the actual shade (pen/marker, tape measure, and a LOT of sticky stickers and velcro). It felt like we were wrapping presents, probably because we were excited to have a dark room for once haha. Our only hassle during setup was the circular stickers that come with the velcros. They were really difficult for us because they didn't want to separate from the paper without some effort. We ended up using a box cutter to peel off the paper (you could probably use anything with a sharp edge to help), but once they came off they've been holding up really well! For our set up we put on about 8 stickers throughout and to keep the shade from drooping in the middle when we fold it up during the day we used 3 velcro total. There are plenty of both of those items so don't feel too scared to use them, just know that you may need to take them off at some point. The material I love honestly. It doesn't tear easily like paper, but it's like regular cloth, and truly helps black out your room. I had accidentally put the sticker on the wrong side of the shade and had to pull up the very sticky velcro off, and with some effort it came off and didn't even tear or stretch the material like I thought it would. We've had this shade up for about a week now and we've been struggling to get up for work now because of the darkness. We have also made peace with our cat by having the shade up in the day, and pulling it down at night. Since its really lightweight she can squeeze under and still be able to see outside of the window. Overall, for only $10 you can't beat it. You can get very "professional" with your installation, or keep it simple like we did and have great results. You don't need to change out the blinds entirely and can feel safe taking it on/off. ... show more

    • It’s a plastic sheet, but it’s a plastic sheet that works!
While it may not look the nicest, given it's a sheet that comes out of the box creased and one side is silver, giving it kind of a tinfoil type look, it really does work perfectly. 100% blackout in the best possible way, large enough for most windows, easy to cut and size as needed. They provide a silver marker and measuring tape so no need to have any on hand. The double sided stickies work pretty well, but I am a bigger fan of the velcro stickers, as I have the option to take the sheet off whenever I want too. Material is like a vinyl shower curtain so it’s lightweight, easy to fold and store but not decorative. Does the job to block the light AND heat from the window. This not only keeps the room dark but cooler too and less work for my AC. The fabric of this is a little better than I expected. I was afraid I was getting some kind of mylar. We applied this to a window on a sunny day and felt that it did a pretty great job given the thickness of the fabric. I was surprised to find little random pinholes of light coming it, but they were very small and I would say that 99% of the light was blacked-out completely. Because its folded there are lots of creases; however, I am not sure that the creases can be ironed out without melting the fabric. Maybe steam will do the trick. ... show more
