These "nail puller/end cutters" are nicely made. The rubber handles are fit well to the tool. They are solid and the jaws are well machined. They meet well with no offset and the hinge is smooth with no binding. The casting is clean without pock marks or bumps. They work well for pulling nails if the nail head is "proud" of the wood. They are not going to reach down into the wood for the nail head without doing a fair amount of damage to the surface of the wood, but, if you can get a grip on the head of the nail, these will allow you to make short work of pulling a common nail. The cutting edge is sharp for an inexpensive tool. It easily cuts wire and thin material and holds its edge. I do believe it would take the grip of a gorilla to cut off a framing nail, but, I believe it could be done. I would not want it to cut through a nail too easily. That would make it very difficult to use as a puller. At this price point it is a good value. Is it a precision tool valued at $50+? No. But, at the current price of $10.85, it is a versatile tool well worth a place in my toolbox. ... show more

This tool is pretty excellent for the price. Nice and sturdy. However, depending on the depth and bite of a nail, it can be tricky to use, and requires a bit of skill. This is a double-edged sword however, because it can relatively easily cut through nails. This is a GOOD feature to have, but it does lead to some unfortunate situations if you bite off more than you can grip. I’m using it to remove baseboard to replace gross carpet in our “new” house. My only real complaint is the red grip pads aren’t affixed as permanently as I’d like, so they slide off often. I’ll have to use some super glue to make them more permanent it seems. I've seen these on the YouTube restoration videos, and I've always struggle with just pulling nails with the back of a hammer. THESE ARE AWESOME. Takes a little getting used to so you don't just snap the nail off, but once you get used to them, I see why the pros use them.

I would be hesitant to use this to pull framing nails but this product is perfect for smaller nails, tacks, brads, staples, etc. One great benefit to this tool is how narrow the face of the nippers are. This means you can easily pull nails in tight spaces (such as in the corner of windows). Do not get distracted by the reviews saying they cannot pull flush nails because a nipper is not meant to pull flush nails. Instead this tool is meant to pull proud nails or to trim the protruding bits off of flush nails. ... show more

I’ve used this tool to get out old nails from “petrified” old wood. I pulled staples out of window shutter framing. It also can rock out embedded tacks or nails used in old upholstery.
