  • Works great, especially for small experimental batches.
This machine is fantastic. It does what it says it does: makes small batches of jelly. I am used to buying in bulk and to canning large batches (I canned 48 quarts of applesauce one weekend last year), so there is a mind frame adjustment that is necessary for me here. This machine works better for small, experimental batches of jellies and jams. It'd be a little silly to try and do large bulk batches. For instance, I got around 50 pounds of strawberries in bulk, but instead of doing a huge batch of strawberry jam, I did five small batches using the five strawberry recipes found in the book. That way, I ended up with 20 jars of various flavors instead of 20 jars of one flavor. The cleanup between batches is SO fast and easy, and the most time-consuming part of the project is prepping your fruit or veggie. Instead of having to stand over your oven and stir stir stir, in just 20 minutes of machine-time (while you're busy cleaning up and prepping the canner and the next batch), the jelly is ready for the next step. Speaking of recipes, I should hope that everyone knows that Ball is protecting its butt by telling you not to deviate from the recipes in their booklet. They can't possibly address all the safety concerns with all the possible recipes people would try. Unfortunately, in this litigious society, they are just being smart about their own liability. Having said that, I have successfully made many other recipes in this machine than just what's in the book. One of the main concerns is that I don't get too MUCH jelly in here because any overflow would not only not set the jelly up right, but also be a pain to clean out of the machine parts that aren't supposed to be exposed to the food. A lot of the recipes I've tried are just imaginative variations on the recipes they've included. I've made a Banana-Pepper Jelly substituting garden banana peppers for bell peppers. The flavor and color is unique, but the recipe worked the same. I've also added different spices to others for the fun of the experiment. However you want to use this, whether sticking to the book or going out on your own limb, it is a great device and easy to clean, store, and use. ... show more

  • Best purchase of 2022!
I don’t submit many reviews, but felt compelled to let anyone who makes jellies and jams know what a game changer this is. It was so easy to assemble. The instructions were clear and I made 3 batches of strawberry jam today. It was the best jam I have ever made. The cook time was perfect, no over cooked taste and it gelled perfectly. One batch yielded 5 half pint jars. If you are thinking that’s a small amount, consider it only takes 21 minutes per batch. And even as slow as I am these days, I was done in less than 2 hours for the 3 batches (including preparing jars, berries, cooking, water bath processing and cleanup). And speaking of cleanup, I was very impressed with the lack of the mess I normally make and have to deal with. It was so easy. I am very happy with this little appliance to say the least. If you have wondered about this automatic jam and jelly maker, I would encourage you to try if for yourself. To summarize it is easy to use, easy to clean and takes the guesswork out of cooking times. ... show more

  • WONDERFUL!!!!
This thing is absolutely great!!!! Why didnt they invent it years ago I wonder? I am 77 and have never been able to make a decent batch of jam or jelly and the stuff the stores sell isnt worth the effort to bring home. I discovered this jam jelly maker by accident and after reading the reviews decided to give it a try. My first batch the same day it arrived was apple jelly made from frozen concentrate. I was totally blown away by how good it was. Yesterday I made some more apple jelly this time using fresh apple cider and it was even better. My goodness.. I have so far made besides apple jelly, grape jelly, peach jam, wild blackberry jam, pear jam, and plum jam. All were made from the reduced sugar recipes and they have a delicious tart and sweet taste, as well as the fruit flavor of course. I have never ever liked pear or plum jam but made in this machine were delicious. At first I thought the small batch size might be kind of a pain since I like to make enough to fill a canner and four half pints are only half a load. But I have found that I get the water in the canner almost to a boil by the time the first batch of jelly is made, fill 4 half pint jars, put the lids and bands on and set them in the canner that is now half full of very hot water. By the time I have done this there is only a short wait while the jam maker cools then I make another batch , and finish filling the canner. So, I have very little time to be sitting around waiting. So this winter when the wind is howling and the snow is drifting I am going to be sitting with a thick slice of home made bread toast spread with some really great jam or jelly and have a steaming cup of coffee to go with and remember how nice the warm summer days were. :-) I dont have any complaints about this machine, it does what it is supposed to do and does that very well. Its very quiet in operation, easy to clean, the instructions were easy to understand, so ya, I would recommend this machine to anyone who likes to 'do it yourself' with jams and jellies. Havent tried any recipes for other than jams and jellies but will later this fall. Thanks Ball for coming up with a great product! ... show more
