  • Works pretty well
Has quite a reach and helps with preventing ice dams where there's no heat tape. Sturdier than I thought it would be.

  • Lightweight and heavy duty
Hear me out. I live in a place where 300 inches of snowfall a winter is fairly average. I get ice dams like you wouldn't believe. I have an older snow rake which I haven't used much on the tall section of my house because it is very unwieldy at full length, especially so since I'm in my 50s and broke my neck a few years ago. I bought this new Avalanche model because it promised to be lightweight. I just used it for the first time today and did not strain myself at all. It also reaches higher on my roof than my old one, and since the 5 poles are 4' long each I can adjust to the levels of my roof better than the old one which had 5 foot long poles. The new one comes with wheels to help protect your shingles, whereas my old one didn't. The rake head is plastic but it seems very sturdy and that's the piece that makes my old rake so heavy and hard for me to use. Assembly is a literal snap, and it came with a wall rack to hang the pieces. Looking forward to keeping those ice dams off my brand new roof this winter. ... show more

  • This worked very well. Handle needs a "texture" upgrade.
I would give this a 5 star if the handle extensions were easier to hold onto. It's funcion and sturdiness is a 5. It's very hard to hold onto the bar because once it's wet and my gloves are wet, as I walk the bar hand over hand pulling down snow, the bar is slippery and I have to grip with all my might. In about 30 minutes, my forearms get pretty sore from gripping. What would improve this problem very fast would be if the manufacturer would run the bars through an imprint press to "roll" onto the surface of the bar a good texture that would diminish the slippery wet effect. I hope they are reading this. And if you upgrade like I am suggesting, please send me a new set of bars for suggesting it ;-) ... show more

  • Works great. Be careful about stiff neck!
Everyone thought I was crazy for buying this 4 weeks ago, but Two days ago we had this 8 inch snow in west central Indiana. So I guess craziness pays off. The tool is generally easy to assemble. It's better to do outside cause it's hard to get two assembled units through the door. And if the temperature is 8 degrees, it doesn't feel good taking them apart. Plus, if the snow is that deep, it's gonna get inside your boots, even if you're careful. Once you start with the little one foot sections by the edge of the roof, it's not too hard. You have to get used to maneuvering a long pole, and let the rollers do the work. If you try to lift the head while it's on the roof, it's a lot of work. I made an effort to take breaks and not overexert arms. Once I got the hang of it the snow comes off pretty easily. It's harder to get the snow off valleys, especially if there's a metal water barriar at the bottom of the valley. It helps if the ground level is higher. The front of my house if like that because the ground is higher. The back of the house was more work because the ground sits lower. After doing the job, I thought this is great, I didn't injure myself, then I got to realizing that my neck was stiff and a bit painful from looking at the roof so much. I had never thought about that, since I didn't notice it at the time. The neck is better today. I did notice my forearms being achy also. So, over all, I'm glad I bought the rake and would very much recommend it. ... show more

  • Good snow rake
Good, light and durable snow roof rake. Great for the money

  • Fairly straight forward
It's a fairly straight forward product. It's a long stick with a piece of plastic on the end for a shoveling effect, and it does exactly that. The product itself requires the bare minimum of assembly; quite literally you take the many sections of tubing and insert them into one another. For some stupid reason I had envisioned this as an actual telescopic, self-contained tube. Many comments say that it bends, and that is true. When fully armed it's own weight will create a curvature, but I don't see it affecting it negatively. On the one hand, it's 20 feet of tubing suspended in the air, how are you gonna keep that straight without adding longer inserts and weight? On the other hand, that curvature adds a little bit of maneuverability whenever you're reaching for high spots at a steep angle. Also, when you're dragging a large bank of snow that flexibility must help avoid breakage. On the negative side: 1. This thing is $20 too expensive, in my opinion. There's very little you can mess up in a design comprised of essentially <6 parts. I would have to imagine less expensive ones will accomplish the same effect without the brand name. 2. The tiny wheels seems like they will fall off very quickly. On top of that I'm not sure they'll makie for enough clearance between the hard plastic edge and shingles, so there's always that anxiety factor that I'll be damaging the roof. My suggestions for the manufacturer would be to add the possibility for larger diameter wheels and either include them in package, and sell them as kites. Last, but not enumerated, this only works if you go do a sweep when the snow is fresh to keep your roof clean. The minute it turns hard you're in trouble. And if it turns into ice you'll have to wish for a warm day or call a professional. But I think it's pretty implicit that this product does not remove ice dams. ... show more

  • Wall hanger poorly designed
Overall it seems like a decent product, the wheels should help avoid scratching the roof, but the wall hanger is poorly designed. When 2 handles are put in the rack, they expand and push they tabs so that the next tube to go in won't fit into the rack. A little filing made room for the tube, but with the price of this item, you shouldn't have to modify something out of the box. With this design issues, I hope that the actual rake will work (no snow yet here). ... show more
